Mitch and Mary are a retired couple who fell in love with the Door County area. Mitch was a tile contractor and always wanted to build his own home. Since 2006 we have been building this home. Building in a quarry has presented some challenges, but it is guaranteed to be unique.
Mitch and Mary Heinrichs purchased this house in 2006
Door County offers so much with it's parks, beaches, theatres, restaurants and shopping.
It is a quiet private area yet within minutes of all Door County has to offer. Owners on premises to take care of any needs or problems.
We stayed 4 nights at this rental. It was a very peaceful area and close to the town of Fish Creek,so great location. The house was more than enough room for myself, my husband and our Goldendoodle. It was clean and comfortable. Loved the patio out the bedroom.Mitch and Mary are very gracious hosts to us and our dog. They gave us a tour of there home which is very unique being that it is built in a quarry. Door County was amazing and we left very relaxed happy threesome!
We had originally hoped to book the Carriage House for our trip with two couples--college friends now in our 30s-- and a small dog, but when we learned it was booked - we opted for the guest room instead. It worked well for a group of our size with more space and character than your average hotel room.
Their location in Fish Creek is terrific for a Door County visitor -a quick and easy drive to the downton area and central so you can go south to Egg Harbor and noth to Sister Bay.
Mitch and Mary were wonderful hosts -- they helped with recomendations in the area and invited us to join them for wine on our first evening and breakfast the morning that we left. On our last day, they also treated us to a tour of the main house, where we got to see Mitch's art studio, military history collection and the very unique natural features they have incorporated into their home design.
We had a great time and we'll definitely check in if they have availability the next time we make our way up to DC!
We stayed for 4 days at this wonderful place with another couple. It was a spectacular setting, Mary and Mitch were extremely gracious hosts, it was comfortably near to all the fun places of Door County, and we simply had a ball. If you stay here, be sure to invite Mitch in for a beer....you won't regret it.
Thanks so much. Fred.
My husband and I were looking for a nice quiet getaway where we could bring a little dog with us. Mitch and Mary were exceptional hosts and I loved that we were invited into their home for a tour. Extremely unique.... We also enjoyed our morning coffee with Mitch and Mary, that is something we didn't expect, but really enjoyed the conversation(coffee was great too!). Thanks for being good to our dog too. Loved Fish Creek...very very dog friendly town. We took her everywhere with us including restaurants (with outdoor seating). We left relaxed...which was our plan.
We very much agree with all of the previous reviews and comments. Everything at The Quarry House could not have been better.....especially our hosts, Mary and Mitch. We have visited Door County for the past five seasons and our experience here was, without a doubt, the best. Beautiful and relaxing accommodations. We very much look forward to returning.
Left this gorgeous home today. We stayed here for July 4th weekend holiday. As before, (its our second stay here and will choose to stay here again when we return to Door County) our stay was comfortable. This time we stayed at the Carriage house (last time we were at their guest room) with my Mom, son and yes our Golden Retriever. The Carriage house is awesome and has a full kitchen. Bathroom is great with nice shower. There's also a huge bathtub. We never had to eat in a restaurant this time of our stay and made breakfast and dinner in their kitchen. There is a private patio accessible from the bedroom. Awesome view all around as Mary and Mitch has great and well kept garden. The smell of the flowers is relaxing. I totally agree with the review of the person before this review. We also went home with one of Mitch's paintings(very reasonably priced with the frame!). Love that we get to take home a nice painting (titled Highway 42 by Mitch) for souvenir made by a local artist in Door County. We have stayed at several other VRBO and this is by far the best because of Mitch and Mary. If you are planning to go to Door County, choose Fish Creek town and stay at the Quarry House! Highly recommended!
Door County is a tourists delight. State parks and beautiful scenery abound. The Quarry House is close to all, but in a quiet peaceful area.
