Ocracoke Island is such a wonderful experience and this house (24 Pompano Place) will make the experience even better.
Beautiful open floor plan, with master bedroom and bath on the first floor. A second bedroom and bath, along with a TV/sleeping area, are located on the second floor.
24 Pompano Place is conveniently located within a short walk or bike ride of Ocracoke Village and the Atlantic Ocean. The Village is concentrated around the harbor, known as Silver Lake. It offers ample shopping, dining and many other activities and forms of entertainment.
24 Pompano Place sits on approximately 1/2 acre, a very large lot by Ocracoke standards, and is contiguous to 'Jettshouse', VRBO listing number 136510, which also sits on 1/2 acre and is also available for rental. Perfect for those large groups that don't necessarily want to be under one roof. ENJOY YOUR VACATION!!!!

About Jim and Dixie Lum
We are Jim and Dixie Lum. I retired from American Airlines(Ex-TWA), as a B-767 Captain in 2013. Dixie and I stay busy managing our rental properties. We have five children, yours, mine and no ours. My children are grown. My oldest lives in Blacksburg, VA and just had her second child. My son and middle daughter live in Charlottesville, VA. Dixie's daughter, Katie, is teaching second grade at Quarles Elementary in Winchester and her son Stuart is a recent graduate of Radford University. They all share our love of Ocracoke. Our primary residence is in Winchester, Virginia. We discovered Ocracoke about 20 years ago and have been in love with it ever since.
Jim and Dixie Lum purchased this House in 2002
Why Jim and Dixie Lum chose Ocracoke
We fell in love with Ocracoke Island about 20 years ago while vacationing together for the first time with our children. We purchased our first home on Ocracoke in 2002 and bought our next door neighbors house('Jettshouse'), VRBO listing #136510, from Captain Jette Carr in 2005. We enjoy the remoteness of the Island and the fact that it has not been commercialized. We have been blessed to have met and made friends with so many people on the Island. Ocracoke has truly become our second home. We enjoy the ability to drive on the beach. I enjoy the fantastic surf fishing. The Island has a small airport and as a pilot and aircraft owner, it is very accessible. It is an 8 hour drive from our home in Virginia, but only a 1 hour and 20 minute flight. This makes frequent trips much more feasible. My spelling stinks, I apologize for any errors. VRBO does not have spell check!
What makes this House unique
I was bitten by the offshore fishing bug a few years ago and there is no better fishing than off the Outer Banks of North Carolina. We keep a 30 foot Grady White, center console fishing boat, the 'Dixie Lee', docked at the Anchorage Marina in Silver Lake Harbor. When we are not using the boat for fishing, we enjoy just being out on the water or boating somewhere for lunch.

Best place ever!!
We stayed here for an extended weekend... it was not long enough. Can not wait till next time. Thanks again Dixie and Jim!
Exceptionally Clean and Comfortable!
Our family of four stayed here the week of August 1-8. This home is really lovely and exceptionally clean. The photos do not do it justice! The house sits far back from the road and is private. The screened-in porch has several chairs to sit in and a large picnic table with benches. The home is well laid out and spacious with hardwood floors on the main floor and carpet upstairs. Each bedroom and the loft with the sofa bed have a ceiling fan and a TV (cable - no satellite). The owners provide towels, wash cloths, bedspreads, and sheets. Make sure to bring your own trash bags, paper products (Kleenex, toilet paper, paper towels, etc.), and soap (laundry, dish and dishwasher detergent, and hand soap). We stock up on groceries at Food Lion located in Avon, which is an hour and 45 minutes north of Ocracoke (a one-hour ferry ride is part of this trip and it's free, although there can be a long wait for the ferry on the return trip to Ocracoke). Before returning to Ocracoke on the ferry, stop at the Scotch Bonnet in Frisco for FABULOUS fudge! The king and queen beds are extremely comfortable. The master bath is quite big with an oversized bathtub/shower. The second bath is upstairs and has a shower stall. The kitchen is well-equipped (the stove is gas). We ate in most nights (husband is a great cook) and found the kitchen had all the tools we needed to prepare meals. We purchased fresh seafood (shrimp, clams, scallops, bluefish, and flounder) from both Native Seafood and Ocracoke Seafood Company. The two nights we ate out included Howard's Pub (great fried oysters and hushpuppies) and Thai Moon (take-out only Thai food but delicious). We also had ice cream every day and found the Slushy Stand's ice cream to be our favorite. Make sure to rent bikes during your stay as that's really the best way to get around the island (we rented from Beach Outfitters, which is not far from the house). For souvenirs make sure to visit Over the Moon for unique, one-of-a-kind gifts. There is a very nice gas grill and an outdoor shower at the back of the home. They also have a large reading library with a diverse selection of topics so you don’t really need to bring any books to the beach if you stay here. There are jigsaw puzzles to put together and several movies (DVDs) to watch. They have Wi-Fi, too. Most importantly, the owners are attentive and quick to respond and we received our security deposit back within a week of our stay. We would absolutely stay at this home again!
Lovely house with all the amenities we expected. Especially loved the outdoor shower and comfortable front porch. Master bedroom was to die for!! Location is great with easy bike ride to town or to get supplies. Car is really not necessary except to get to farther beach accesses. We originally planned to house 7 people but gratefully 2 dropped out as it would not have been very comfortable with all. Would not recommend 7 unless all are very understanding and on same schedule. A must eat is the 'Freto Taco' that can be had from the cart on the main drag. A bit unusual but really good. Remember to bring/pick-up necessities like we did not i.e. TP, soap, dish/cloths soap, etc. (Rookies we were). We all would definitely return especially at this time of year as the town was so quiet.
Relax and Enjoy!
We had a restful week in this well-designed and charming cottage. We would definitely rent this cottage again the next time we come to Ocracoke.
Very enjoyable week! wonderful weather & great rental house.....especially loved the screened in porch this is where we spent most of our evenings. The house was well stocked with everything needed & probably had one of the most comfortable beds that I have slept on away from home. I loved the pillows so much that I ordered them for our bed at home. Would definitely stay here again!
Thanks so much for the kind words. Glad you enjoyed the house.
