Bedrooms 5
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Cottage, 5 Bedrooms, 1 Bath (Sleeps 6)

We have added 2 bedrooms, now there are five!

Teskie's Cottage is a 1700 sq. foot home located at 970 Cottage Rd in Gills Rock.

Air-conditioned, picturesque and freshly updated, this appealing waterfront cottage has a front row seat to the amazing view over Green Bay (no access to the water), a large master bedroom downstairs, and four additional bedrooms upstairs. A spacious kitchen, living room with wood burning 6 foot stone fireplace, and sitting/reading room complete this quaint Door County cottage. Laundry facilities provided also. A large yard provides space for children and pets to run around.

Built by Lily and Frank Sr. Teskie in the early 1900's, the cottage was once used as a boarding house for visiting fishermen. The hand-cut granite fireplace in the living room adds to its charm, and was constructed by Frank Sr. out of local stone. The breathtaking view includes the town of Gills Rock from the picture window in the living room, and unending, spectacular sunsets.

Enjoy Fourth of July fireworks from the front yard around the fire pit, grill out on the private sunny patio, or enjoy a book under the shady cedar trees in the yard. If you've been looking for a private yet convenient place to relax and enjoy Door County - this is it!

The much-beloved Shoreline Restaurant, a charming Coffee Shop at Gallery Ten art gallery with Wi-Fi, Charlie's Smokehouse (and Ice Cream!), the Island Clipper Ferry Line to Washington Island, a sprinkling of gift shops, and a spacious park with playground (pet-friendly) are all within walking distance.

Within 5-25 min. driving, so much more - parks, galleries, shops, churches, water activities, hiking, bicycling, wildlife/bird watching, theater events, sunrise/sunset vistas, beaches

Payment via cash, personal checks, Traveler's Checks, and money orders.

Great host, great cottage, great location!

  • 5 of 5

Everything was great about this cottage; the view, the breeze, the fireplace, the location. It had everything. Lyle was kind enough to bring us firewood, kindling, and newspaper for our fire. You can walk 200 feet to the main road, turn left or right, and within a three minute walk you can find coffee, food, or drinks. A truely great location. Not to mention a 5, 10, and 15 minute drive gets you to Ellison Bay, Sister Bay, and Ephraim!

Relaxing weekend away!

  • 4 of 5

With 5 adults and 2 children (and a dog), this cottage had plenty of space. We were able to get some quiet whether in the house or outside looking over the lake. The owner, Lyle was wonderful. He brought over kindling for our fire that we had every night and answered any questions we had regarding the area of Door County we were in. We enjoyed the quiet atmosphere and friendly customer service of Lyle. We will be back to Gills Rock to stay at this cottage for sure.

Great place to stay in Door County

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay in Gills Rock at Lyle's cabin. The view is spectacular, and it's incredibly quiet and peaceful while still being close to everything Door County has to offer. The house is well equipped and we loved having the fire pit to sit by while we watched the sun set. Lyle was welcoming and responsive, keeping us stocked with firewood. It was so nice to be able to bring our dog, too. I highly recommend staying here!

Just what we wanted

  • 5 of 5

We try to spend one week each summer on the lake in Gills Rock at a property that will allow us to bring our 2 dogs. Lyle's place was just perfect. It has a rustic feel that reminded me of summers spent at my grandparent's cottage. And, just like my grandparent's cottage, it was very clean.

The week we were there had some beastly temps into the 90s and we were SO thankful for the AC. Each night we watched the sun set over the bay (and on the 2 'cool' nights we used the fire pit). Two of the trees were perfectly situated for our camping hammock and I did take a nap there one afternoon. The kitchen is fully equipped and we made use of the grill.

Lyle and Sam were friendly and helpful hosts who helped to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. We had a wonderful week in Gills Rock.

Too Good to be True?

  • 5 of 5

If you're wondering, I'd say, Book it! The description and photos are very accurate. We spent 4 nights at Teskie's in early June for a family reunion with our adult children. We needed the 3 bedrooms, didn't mind sharing the bathroom, and found the view and location perfect! Each night, we sat around the fire pit enjoying the changing sky: sunset, stargazing, distant lightning. The gas grill yielded freshly-caught fish and veggie kabobs, the veggies reeled in at the Jacksonport farmer's market (every Tuesday morning). It's an easy walk to the Gill's Rock Coffee shop for tasty coffee and baked goods, and 24-hour free wi-fi. The Shoreline Restaurant has great food, a full bar, and a patio to watch the sun set. We drove to the Shoreline, I'd guess the hike would be about a mile. Teskie's is a good base for a trip to Washington Island, hiking Door Bluff Headlands County Park, driving to Ellison Bluff County Park to see the sunset, and very convenient to Ellison Bay and Sister Bay. Nothing in Door County is really that far away. It was a 35-minute drive to a classic fish boil at the Square Rigger in Jacksonport. Lyle, the owner, is literally right around the corner, and responded immediately when we asked for more firewood. Teskie's Cottage is a perfect choice if you want to be off the tourist trail a little bit, but have a roof over your head.

Cute, Very Clean Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay here at the Teskie Cottage.Very simple and straight-forward 1930's cottage, extremely clean and bright. Nice, newer updated bathroom. Electric baseboard heat kept everything warm&cozy during our chilly May '11 stay. Beautiful waterfront view of water, sunsets and Town of Gills Rock. Located on a quiet road on the outskirts of Gills Rock, great for walking the dog or strolling into town to the Shoreline Restaurant/Bar. Owner Lyle lives close by to answer any questions. Thanks for being pet-friendly Lyle, we'll be back and would highly recommend this comfortable cottage.
