Overview

About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Loft, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-6)

Vacationers come to Maine for many reasons. Here is one more. Secluded on 37 acres with 1000 feet shore front this immaculate post and beam cottage has been referred to as "The Castle On the Bay". The pictures tell why. We have found that one of the most liked aspects of renting here is the outside fireplace with it's two gas fired lobster cookers as well as a large gas grill.

A great spot for cooking and family get togethers. Some of the following check mark info's does not cover everything such as the fact that the cottage is on an estuary of the ocean and therefore has very calm waters for kayaking and exploring the shoreline. The cottage sits alone on this 37 acre spot therefore has a great deal of privacy. There is a gate that you can lock at night for total privacy.

Beautiful place

  • 5 of 5

This place is truly a delight- there was something for everyone. It is very quiet for sleeping, relaxing and reading. The children loved mucking about the tidal waterfront and the kayaks. The full kitchen and outside grill, fireplace and dining area are great for a family cook. There is an outside hose for cleaning up. The seals were amazing to watch- and if you paddle quietly, they will follow you! The house has what you need- full bath, laundry, linens, appliances, fans, delicious muffins! Definitely try cooking lobsters outside on the fireplace- easier and cooler than cooking inside. Located within reasonable distance to Schoodic Peninsula, Winter Harbor, MDI, Ellsport, Tidal Falls, etc. The problem is, the property is so private and quiet, you don't want to leave! Tina, the owner, is charming and responsive. We've spent several vacations in Maine, and this was easily our most enjoyable. The boys loved 'racing' the car from the gate. They always won, funny that!

A Hidden Treasure!

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful stay on this little bay! This cottage was immaculate, yet warm and homey. Not a detail left undone....from the canoe/kayaks on the property to the umbrella at the front door. Even homemade blueberry muffins and smores fixins left in the fridge! Secluded, with easy access to the bay. We enjoyed canoeing out to visit the seals and building fires in the fire pit built from granite on the property. Great history on this home....just ask Tina! Acadia National Park was close enough but far enough to avoid the heavy tourist presence. Schoodic Mountain is closeby for a hike and vista view. We also loved Tidal Falls which was just around the corner.

Perfect Vacation Haven

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is like new, meticulously clean and the location is amazing. It is situated on a bay teaming with wildlife. Daily we could watch the harbor seals basking in the sun and occasionally bobbing in the water. We saw bald eagles, starfish, horseshoe crabs, to name a few. Having four kayaks and a canoe on the premise was so nice. It allowed us to explore the bay and marine life. We also saw porcupines, a very large black bear and deer very close by. We loved being so close to nature.

Tina Anderson set us up so well. We did not have to worry about packing or grocery shopping for the "extras" in order to prepare a meal. The cottage came stocked with spices, condiments and even all the ingredients to make smores in the outdoor fireplace. We also enjoyed using the outdoor steamers to prepare a delicious meal of steamed clams and mussels.

The drive to Acadia was about 35 minutes and the drive to Schoodic Mountain and Donnell Pond with the sandy beach about 25 minutes.

Overall, this is a wonderful vacation haven. We loved staying here. Should we plan a future trip to Maine, this will be our destination.

Excellent Family Get-away!

  • 5 of 5

One word.....WOW! This was our first family vacation to Maine and it was unforgettable! The Cottage on the Bay was heavenly with its breathtaking views of the bay! We enjoyed kayaking and canoeing everyday and enjoying the serenity and beauty of the surroundings. It was fun to watch the curious harbor seals in the bay and see the bald eagles flying overhead as we paddles through the water. We have never experienced such a peaceful, relaxing vacation. The cottage was gorgeous, immaculate, and perfect for our family. It was well decorated and so well stocked with kitchen supplies, pantry staples, cleaning products, condiments, paper products etc. Tina even had yummy blueberry muffins waiting for us upon our arrival as well as fresh picked blueberries and smore's supplies which we promptly enjoyed by the outdoor grill/fireplace. The Cottage by the Bay is a quick drive to the quaint town of Ellsworth, Maine where we enjoyed the Main Street shops, Jordan's snack bar (great burgers, shakes, and ice cream), as well as the scenic Tidal Falls. It was also conveniently located (45 minute drive) to Acadia National Park which is heaven on earth!! We hope to come back to Maine someday and we will definitely stay at the Cottage on the Bay.

Peace and tranquility!

  • 5 of 5

What a perfect location to kick back, relax on the deck, kayak, take long walks, cook lobsters or explore. Close enough to shop in Bar Harbor and Ellsworth. The cottage is very comfortable, nicely furnished, immaculate and has amazing the views of the bay. All amenities even including basic staples were there. The outside fireplace and patio area is perfect for sitting by a fire and making smore's . If you are looking for a place for a family vacation, or friends to gather, or a romantic get away the "Cottage by the Bay" is the place. I loved my vacation there and there was only one thing wrong- my vacation ended and I had to go home! Will definitely be back!

Perfect waterfront location!

  • 5 of 5

What a great spot! If you are looking for a rental on the waterfront, with 5 kayaks and direct kayak access to water, large deck for relaxing and an awesome firepit for cooking lobsters then this is for you. Secluded for relaxing but still within 15 mins to Ellsworth and 45 min to Bar Harbor. The amenities are exactly as described even including home -made blueberry muffins on arrival. This cottage is immaculate. Tina and family immediately make you feel welcome and at home. They offer expert advise on area info, attractions and restaurants. Enjoyed walking and exploring the property. Definitely a perfect get away location and we will be back this summer!
