Peace And Relaxation By The Sea - Hiking and Biking In Acadia
About Kevin Nealon
My mom and dad started vacationing at Baycliff over 50 years ago. At that time we’d drive up from New Jersey (Metuchen, exit 10) and spend two weeks. I remember going deep sea fishing, hiking, sight seeing and all the other touristy things. Though I think my favorite activity was skipping rocks into the sea. Not that easy with waves and wind. In 1973 the property went up for sale and my dad immediately purchased it. Then we started staying a month at a time in the main house, which, back then, wasn’t much larger than the cabins. One year we brought up all seven of our cats and a raccoon that I was fostering! We’ve been renting the two cabins for over 40 years now years now. The above picture is myself, my two daughters and my mom, who has been taking care of the cabins during the summer. Mt. Desert Island features may attractions. If you ride a bicycle, the carriage roads are amazing! If you like to hike, the hiking trails are amazing! If you like to bird, we have humming birds and warblers! There are also some very good restaurants in Bar Harbor and elsewhere on the island. This really is a wonderful place.

Why Kevin Nealon chose Bar Harbor
Baycliff will destress you. I don’t know if it’s the quiet, the ocean, the cool clean air, the wind through the trees or the sounds of nature, but you will relax.

Peaceful and convenient
We Loved staying in the Guesthouse and would do so again. The location is excellent and both the owner and property manager are friendly and helpful. We arrived in the dark and our GPS directed us to the wrong driveway, but a quick phone call and the signage at the street got us there. We hiked or biked most of each day, plus it was chilly as we were there in October, so we didn't utilize the deck as much as others might, but it was a very nice sitting area with a great view. We had 3 adults in the house and it had everything we needed. With the frig, oven and microwave we were able to cook/eat all our meals in the cabin. I also brought a slow cooker so we had that option available. The Guesthouse was perfect for the three of us. I highly recommend this rental property for your vacaction.
I have to start sending directions to guests!
Location and peaceful but both homes were dirty
Enjoyed being able to get away from the crowds in the evening. Very unhappy with the lack of cleanliness. So much so we were offered a upgrade to the large house and accepted. Once we were there we realized it too was very dirty. Talked to the property manager once when agreeing to move to the larger property. We really didn’t believe our time should be spent inviting her back to clean.
I stand by my property manager. There are many reviews for this property that start off with the comment that property was clean.
I offered an upgrade because I would collect a larger rent, not because one house was dirty. While discussing the upgrade - this guest did not comment on the cleanliness of either property. My daughter also went into the house (not cabin) after this renter and after my property manager cleaned it and found the house very clean.
But most of all - it's really not fair for a guest to complain about something in a review that we were never told about or given a chance to fix.
Cute cabin steps from Frenchman’s Bay
Cute cabin, very relaxing. Location is perfect! Steps to the water, conveniently located to Downtown Bar Harbor, and minutes to acadia entrances. I’ll definitely stay again.
Hi Greg - Thank you for the nice review. Short and sweet!
Hidden gem of bar harbor. Perfect beach.
Was a perfect location and needed nothing! Minutes from both downtown and Acadia visitor center. Owner was great and checked in and his beach was my personal favorite. I thought it was bar harbors true hidden gem.
Hi Alan - thank you for the wonderful review! We do have a fascinating beach - changes with the tide and the weather!
Great vacation spot, quiet and peaceful with fabulous views.
Hi Joan - Thanks for the great review! You succinctly described the charms of the Guest House.
The Guest House was just as listed. It was exactly what I imagined a vacation in Maine would be like. The house was very clean. The property is beautiful. It was great having access to the water where we could kayak. The owner and caretaker both reached out to see how everything was. They even dropped an additional fan off when it was unusually hot. There were plenty of fans available in the house. The location is perfect for visiting Acadia and Bar Harbor. This was our first trip to Maine and we hope to return.
Thank you for the wonderful review! Glad you were able to walk the kayaks down to the shore!
