About this property

Cabin with ocean views, minutes from Acadia and Bar Harbor

Location:
The Guest House is situated on the north coast of Mt. Desert Island, also known as Frenchman Bay. It is only seven minutes (2.5 miles) from the Acadia National Park visitor center and 13 minutes (5 miles) from Bar Harbor. Fun and safe bicycle routes lead to both the park and town. Nestled among pine trees, the cabin offers a stunning view of Frenchman Bay. There is a communal deck with a picnic table overlooking the bay where you can enjoy breathtaking sunrises and sunsets, and watch lobster boats in the morning as they head out.

Note that this is an uninsulated cabin. Which means that if it gets chilly outside - it'll get chilly inside by morning. The wood stove makes great heat. There are also two space heaters and we supply electric blankets.

The Guest House has a sister cabin, the Pines VRBO# 887970

Amenities:
There is a large living area with kitchen (stove/oven, refrigerator and sink), eating area, sitting area with wood burning stove. There are two bedrooms. The cabin sleeps five. One bedroom has a queen sized bed. The other bedroom has a bunk bed and a twin. There is WiFi and you can stream from your mobile devices to the TV. The cottage has a large covered porch for sitting. We also provide a charcoal grill. Parking is next to the cabin.

Why Us:
This is a peaceful and quiet place. We’ve been renting the Guest House and its sister cabin, the Pines for over 50 years. We have customers who have been coming here for a decade or more. This is a great place for a couple or a family. We also make it easy for you to bring your pets. We have pets and know how nice it is to bring them, so please bring yours!

The property is shared with another cabin 100 yards up the hill and a large house 50 yards closer to the cliff.

Great location, very comfortable
We loved this little cabin! It had everything we needed to be comfortable, and the location was great; it was close to everything we wanted to do but still far enough away to be quiet and peaceful in the evenings. The view from the dock was gorgeous! Our hosts were very accommodating and quick to respond to any questions/requests. We would definitely stay here again!

Great place to stay.
The house is described accurately. It is tucked away in beautiful wooded area that overlooks the water. It is in a great location, close enough to be convenient to Bar Harbor and Acadia, but far enough out that you aren’t dealing with traffic or congestion. We took our dog with us and the trees surrounding the house was a lot of fun to play ball with him in.

This is the Place
We were back for our 2nd year and had another great stay at the cabin. Rustic, cozy, quiet, and beautiful views of the water from the deck. The cabin is well stocked. Great proximity to downtown Bar Harbor. A few of our favorite restaurants are Havana, Sweet Pea Farm, and Project Social. 2 Cats never disappoints, if you’re looking for a great breakfast. We highly recommend this property if you’re looking for an authentic cabin experience. We’ll be back!

Wonderful week
We had a truly wonderful week at the guest house. The location was perfect - quiet, amazing views and an easy short drive to Acadia National Park and everything else we wanted to do on MDI. We loved going out to see the stars at night and watching sunsets. The cottage was super clean, very well stocked (best of any VRBO we’ve ever stayed at). The beds were very comfortable. Communication with owner was great. We loved our time here!

Guest house on the bay
This is a prime location for visiting, MDI and Acadia National Park. Close to it all but far enough away from the crowd. It has a view of the bay, but no beach access at the moment due to winter storms, a bummer as that is one of the reasons we choice this place. There is a lot of outdoor seating off your porch, it is quiet, semi private, use the window fans and other fans to help keep it cooler, the humidity is no joke in the summer. It has plenty of pots and pans, good quality glasses and dishes, good quality toilet paper and paper towels, and bed linens. Tip: if you plan to walk the land bridge go super early just to find parking in bar harbor, there was none, even though we went 2 hr before low tide, so we did not get to go there. We avoided Bar Harbor as much as possible, too crowded. Go to the quietside for adventures, less crowds, also go to ANP after 6pm or by 8am to have parking and to be able to enjoy the parks main attractions. My favorite spot is walking out on the rocks at Otter point! We would stay again, if ever in the area.

A cabin with a view, but no access
The good: great location, cute cabin, just as pictured. It appeared very clean when we got there. The bed was the most comfortable one I have ever slept in for a vrbo. The cabin was well stocked with towels and kitchen supplies. Very thoughtful! It is a cabin, so be prepared for a tight space, very small shower, etc. Why not a 5 star review: the cabin was supposed to have beach access, but didn't because of a storm over the winter. This access was a key reason for booking and was still being advertised even as we moved in. The owner suggested we access 10 mins walk away via a drainage path, blocked by cones that was very treacherous. Also, while the cabin was very clean, it had a ton of flies. Not sure where they are getting in. There is a large gap under the main door. There was also what looked like a large mouse nest in one of the kitchen cabinets.

Guest House
We had a lovely stay on the last week of season at this property. The evenings were cool, but we were cozy in the cabin with the electric heaters and the wood burning stove. The kitchen was very well equipped which allowed us to prepare meals required since we were staying with our dog - also a big plus for us at the cabin. Kevin was easy to communicate with and gave us several suggestions of favorite hikes with dogs. The cabin is basic, but comfortable and in a great location for travels to the National Park and other points on MDI. Highly recommended for a couple or small family with a dog(s).

Great location in rustic cabin
Great location with shore views from balcony and a short walk to a shore deck and stairs down to the rocky beach. Very quiet, far from the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor, but close enough quick trip there for meals, cruises etc. Minutes drive from Acadia park entrance. Great family room and kitchen/dinning area. The only reason we gave 4 stars overall is that the bathroom is very small, and the light fixture over the kitchen sink kept falling when we turned it on and off. The owner and the manager were very responsive and kind. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Hidden Gem!
We loved this rental! The pictures online don’t give the view of the water justice. Low tide offered a great opportunity to comb the beach for treasures and make memories. The cabin is close to the park entrance and downtown while still giving a quiet retreat to relax after a day of exploring. This was the perfect spot for our family of 5 (kids ages 4-9). Highly recommended!

Sand point rd cabin
The cabin was exactly as I expected. It is just a short walk to the beach, which was very nice. Unfortunately it was a cold and rainy week, so the cabin was pretty damp. I was thankful for the extra blankets and towels. It was clean and check-in was easy.

We had a lovely stay at the cabin for a week with our family. The description and comments on the reviews are accurate and fair so it was what we expected. Our kids really enjoyed the beach, especially during low tide. We found sea glass, crabs and sand dollars on the beach which was fun!

Great stay
Stayed here for the week with my fiancé to have a nice quiet week together to relax and enjoy Bar Harbor and Acadia. The cabin is AWESOME! Beautiful views of the water and we were lucky enough to have the shared deck all to ourselves so we spent a lot of time chilling down there. The location is perfect for trips into town as well as exploring Acadia, and everything else about the cabin is exactly as advertised. We had an amazing time and cannot wait to to come back! Highly recommend booking this spot!!!

Enjoyed stay in rustic cottage on the water and close to Acadia NP
I enjoyed my stay in the guesthouse. The cottage has a deck with a beautiful water view or you can walk a hundred feet to the deck which is overlooking the water. I took a walk on the beach at low tide. The inside of the cabin is rustic but comfortable. I used both heaters in the kitchen and living areas in the evening and I was quite comfie. The cottage had all the kitchen tools that I needed. The cottage is about a 5 minute drive to the Hulls Cove visitor center in Acadia NP and also a short drive to Bar Harbor. The owner is very easy to reach.

Best vacation, peaceful place
Check in and out were easy. They also allowed me to check in early which was appreciated after a very long car ride from Maryland. I had great communication with the property manager. While the neighbors had some arbor work being done during my stay, that did not deter me from finding tranquility in the wee-early morning hours watching the sunrise on the Mt. Desert Narrows. During the days I was hiking, biking, or paddling. I took advantage of the great location of the guest house. The other visitors at properties were nice and cordial, offering advice and suggestions. The cabin is rustic and just what I wanted for this vacation. Having wi-fi available was a win since I had some minor things to do for a volunteer project I had. I was able to cook everything on the stove/oven with plentiful pots/pans and utensils. The fridge had much room for my food needs as well. I can't wait to return.

Relaxing, rustic waterfront retreat
I stayed at the Guest House for one week with my elementary school-aged kids. The home has water views and access, all the basic necessities and is perfect if you're hoping to have a relaxing, quiet vacation. The location is perfect for accessing Acadia National Park--one of the entrances is a five-minute drive away. Bar Harbor isn't much farther and offers food and shopping.

My parents started vacationing at Baycliff over 50 years ago. Back then, we’d drive up from New Jersey (Metuchen, Turnpike exit 10) and spend two weeks here. I have fond memories of deep-sea fishing, hiking, sightseeing, and other touristy activities, but my favorite was skipping rocks into the sea—quite a challenge with waves, wind, and seaweed!
In 1973, the property went up for sale, and my dad immediately bought it. We began staying for a month at a time in the cottage, which wasn’t much larger than the cabins back then. One year, we brought all seven of our cats and a raccoon I was fostering! For over 40 years now, we’ve been renting out the two cabins. The picture above is of me, my two daughters, and my mom. Until 2019, during the summer months, mom would stay at Baycliff and take care of the cabins and guests.
Mount Desert Island offers so many attractions. The carriage roads are perfect for cycling, the hiking trails are spectacular, and if you're into birding, we have segulls, loons, hummingbirds and warblers - and on occasion an osprey or bald eagle! Bar Harbor and the surrounding areas also boast some excellent restaurants. This truly is a special place.

Why they chose this property

Acadia National Park Headquarters is just 2.5 miles away, and Bar Harbor is only five miles from your doorstep. The cabin is situated in a quiet location, nestled among pine trees, providing a tranquil atmosphere that will help you destress. Whether it's the peaceful surroundings, the ocean breeze, the cool, clean air, the wind rustling through the trees, or the soothing sounds of nature, you'll find true relaxation here.

What makes this property unique

There is a communal deck with a picnic bench on the cliff, where you can witness the ever-changing character of Frenchman Bay. Enjoy breathtaking sunrises and sunsets; on sunny days, watch the clouds race across the sky, while on moody, overcast days, observe the approach of a storm. It's a captivating story of nature's transformations.

The beach also shifts with the ebb and flow of the tide, exposing boulders and seaweed at low tide, creating a tranquil, ocean-inspired meditation garden.
