About wiliam chinnock

I am a retired judge/attorney who moved to the Rocky Mountains of Boulder in 1994 for semi-retirement with my yellow lab 'Cassidy' after conducting a world-wide search for the ideal place to live. The vast mountain ranges - the great variety of activities -- sports and cultural events of the University of Colorado at Boulder - easily accessible Big City activities of Denver - breath-taking mountain views - friendly people - total privacy in my mountain retreat - these things do not allow me to live anywhere else in this whole wide world.

wiliam chinnock purchased this house in 1994

if you visit, you may decide to stay and live your life here, as do many folks.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for allowing me to stay in your lovely Rocky Mountain home. This is a wonderful place. I had the whole house all to myself, at less cost than a hotel suite.

For more than 30 years, ever since I was a 14-year-old kid, I dreamed of sleeping under the stars in the night sky of the Rocky Mountains. I was finally able to do so, if only for a long weekend. But I will be back!

The three big skylights in the master bedroom did the trick. I saw so many stars, and even airplanes, that I could hardly sleep.

You gave a long-awaited gift to a 44-year-old kid. Thanks for helping this little boy live his dream.

Beautiful Setting and Retreat Home for 25th Annual Sisters Gathering....all 6 of us!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time in this beautiful home which was perfectly nestled in the mountains with spectacular views out every window. Stunningly beautiful meadow for morning or evening strolls right out the back door. The picturesque 25 minute drive getting to and from the home never got old. We took the host's very helpful and detailed suggestions and explored many of the surrounding landmarks and destinations the area had to offer. When we weren't exploring, we were sitting on the deck or the great room taking in the views. A rainbow over the mountains greeted us when we first arrived, no doubt a message from our mother who used to join us on our retreats.

Thanks and kudos to our wonderful host who made us feel so welcome and at home with lots of helpful information and several phone calls to make sure everything was in order.

It was a lovely experience all around. We are already missing the cool temps and fresh air.

Thanks for the wonderful memories!

Owner's Response: The Six Saintly and Scrumptious Sisters from Texas graced Sugarloaf Retreat in the Rocky Mountains 3,000+ ft above mile-high Denver and Boulder with their joyful presence in early August 2017 for their 25th Annual SS&S Sisters Retreat. The World would be a better place if all families could share such love and joy of life.

Property truly brings you one step closer to heaven!

  • 5 of 5

I have 2,490 characters to sum up our experience, and I assure you I need five times as many. Bill is a piece of southern hospitality nestled into the mountains. From start to finish, he was the most gracious host and went the extra mile. Our stay was exactly what we needed during the chaos of wedding planning, and I spent many a moment just staring out across the yard at the views we were surrounded by. Bill’s place feels like home, and not just his. He was constantly available to answer any questions we had, checked in on us to make sure we were okay, and gave some amazing ideas for things to do. The meadow down the fire trail is truly a place from a dream. You can’t find the kind of peace we found there just anywhere. He is selective about his guests and does not rent frequently. I am honored he accepted and welcomed us into his life and home for the duration of our stay. On our last night, we all sat around his beautiful dining room table and enjoyed the views over some of the best pizza we’ve ever had. He then took the time to show me an amazing resource for us to search for our honeymoon and helped me print some trips we liked, not because he had to, but because he is one of the kindest and most genuine people I have ever had the honor of knowing. Out of all the places we’ve stayed country wide over the last few years, none have made quite the impression that Bill and his little piece of heaven did. Absolutely worth the money and the time for such a one of a kind experience.

Great Stay

  • 5 of 5

Living in the NYC area with one child interning in Boulder and the other having relocated to San Francisco, it was clear the only way we would be able to get the family together this summer was to do it in the Boulder area. Bill’s house was the perfect solution. From the house we were able to enjoy all of our favorite mountain activities (fly fishing, hiking, nature photography). The added bonus was that my daughter was still able to get to her Boulder office with a painless 25 min drive and we were all able to enjoy many evening activities in Boulder with the same short drive. Bill was incredibly helpful and responsive. I would also highly recommend trying the restaurants and breweries in nearby Nederland. The food and drink were really great and the people couldn’t be any nicer.

An absolutely beautiful property & home just a short distance from Boulder, CO. Spectacular views!!

  • 5 of 5

We had reserved this beautiful home the second week in June as a nice get-away for my wife & I. We also had a couple family members join us during our stay in Colorado. The weather was very cooperative and perfect for walks, hiking, and site-seeing. That's if you could break yourself away from the spectacular views directly from the property. The owner has 3 patios on different sides of the home & after staying there...., we completely understand why!! If you are lucky enough to be an early riser, you are in for a phenomenal show by nature :-) For the late-nighter's, the view of the Moon & Stars in an absolute must!! The master bedroom upstairs allows you to open a large 3 panel sunroof blind to stare up at the stars while you fall to sleep. The owner would call to check-in periodically to make sure we had everything & to insure a delightful stay!! Thank you for allowing others to share in these well-needed delights!! Highly recommended stay!!

Beautiful views and great location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this private and very comfortable home for 5 days in early August, 2016. The house has beautiful views from 3 different decks as well as from about every window in the cabin. The den has huge floor to ceiling windows. The house is about 5 miles from Nederland, which is a must visit.

Owner's Response: Thanx for your nice comment about the views out the two-story front windows to the west of the Continental Divide. The views and walking trail right out the back door of the hugh meadow (as big as a football stadium) are different but just as fantastic.

A roomy place with lots of natural light and a communicative host

  • 4 of 5

My friends and I had a great stay here. A walk to the meadow is a great way to start the day. The skylights and great room windows give the place an abundance of natural light. It is roomy without feeling overwhelmingly big. Although there were six of us and only three bedrooms, the couch and some extra cushioned mats served as beds for the three others. The deck is a nice place to hang out, as well. The host is very accommodating; I appreciated how communicative he was. The only downside was that the hot tub was not working; the host had scheduled a repair for it, but it was to happen after our stay. He did well to let us know ahead of time, and even checked to see if a neighbor could let us use his tub. Overall, I'd recommend it to others.
