About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

AVAILABLE FOR RENTAL MAY 1st TO OCTOBER 31st YEARLY. Ospreys' Rest' is the perfect wine-country getaway, offering the best of all worlds. Nearby some of the world's finest wineries and excellent wine-country restaurants, the house lies at the end of a long private gated road through the woods, a unique location that offers seclusion, quiet, and privacy.

One of the last homes built in the community of Summer Home Park, which itself is located at the end of a one-mile, one-lane county road, Ospreys' Rest has the comfortable feeling of a cabin-in-the-woods, yet provides the advantages of modern conveniences: elegant updated furnishings and amenities, central heating, large decks, stereo sound system, glass-top range, and microwave. The central areas of the house are cooled by ceiling fans, and an air-conditioner, although rarely necessary, is available in the main bed room.

The living room/dining area features floor-to-ceiling glass windows offering views of the woods, and just outside the fronjt door a steaming redwood hot tub stands in the center of a towering circle of redwoods.

Two decks are adjacent: the extensive front deck provides ample space for sunbathing, grilling and dining, while the rear deck (off the kitchen/dining area) is perfect for watching the antics of the osprey family (the nest is quite nearby and viewable from the deck and living room), relaxing and reading, dining, or catching the afternoon sun.

Hike, bike, swim, read, float or canoe the river (canoe rental facilities nearby), sunbathe, soak in the hot tub at your secluded hideaway..or...use it as your base from which to explore the many wonders of the Sonoma County wine country: wine-tasting, road-and-mountain-biking, hot air ballooning, Armstrong Redwoods grove, antiquing, horseback riding, and fine dining. The magnificent Sonoma coast, with it's hidden beaches and iconic communities like Bodega Bay, is a short (24 mi) drive.

PLEASE NOTE: Summer Home Park is a private community, and use of its facilities and attendance at it's social functions are not included in the rental of Ospreys Rest.!

Whatever your taste, you'll find Ospreys' Rest a place to which you'll want to return to again and again.

Great weekend to unwind from city life

  • 5 of 5

My family (2 adults + 2 boys; 1 yo & 4 yo) had a very relax weekend at Bruce's place. It was a beautiful location. The view from the living room in magnificent and you really feel all alone in nature (but with a good WiFi connection).

Rustic forest getaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I flew in from Hawaii for a wedding in wine country and we wanted something off the beaten path. We were so happy to find this charming family summerhouse only 15 min away from most of the stops on our itinerary. The hot tub was a relaxing way to end the day and we loved waking up to the lush golden green hues in the trees each morning. Overall, the only thing leaving something to be desired was the water presssure-the house was built in the 1970's. we were glad to stop through at a hotel in the city before flying out. Thank you for sharing your lovely home Bruce.

Owner's Response: Thank you, Anne, for your comments about your experience at Ospreys Rest. I am curious, though, if you read the guest welcome book or noticed the sign posted about the "boost pump". We are dedicated to making the experience of Ospreys Rest as pleasant as possible for our guests (as well as for ourselves, of course), so we try to anticipate any difficulty or need. There is a "boost pump" to provide high water pressure for showers and washing dishes which must be turned on when needed. It is left in the OFF position at other times in order to conserve energy and water. I'm sorry that you missed it , and will make a point to make the sign and notification in the guest book a bit more noticable!

Quaint Cabin in a beautiful secluded location

  • 5 of 5

I booked this cabin after very short notice from my friend that she was coming into town. Even with only a day to clean and prepare, the cabin was incredibly clean and filled with tons of maps and information about the nearby area. I honestly wasn't expecting too much probably because of my last minute booking, and really was blown away by how beautiful the cabin and area is.

The cabin is surrounded by redwoods, and is very secluded. You can walk down to the river really easily, or just hang out in the living room gazing out at the redwoods. There's also two large decks, a hot tub, and even a canoe for cruising down the river.

There's a lot to see and do nearby, especially if you want to do some wine tasting. Also, even with the drought and fires, the area around the cabin and really all along 116 still looks very lush and much less dry than other areas of California currently.

Chilled out in the woods

  • 5 of 5

What a great time we had! Osprey's Nest is the perfect quiet getaway in the heart of forest surrounding the Russian River. The house was fully stocked, hot tub was warm, and after getting a sense of the distance down the hill and out to River Road, it didn't seem like such a daunting drive. We (me, my wife and 7 year-old) walked down to the beach (bit of a long hike back up if you aren't used to walking), but also enjoyed the Sunset Beach Park nearby. It's an especially good choice if you are more into being in nature, relaxing, and cooking most of your meals as opposed to shopping, casinos, and that sort of thing.

And it's of even greater interest if you are interested in California and its history, ecology and trends; Summerhome Park is a bit of a blast from the past, complete with one-lane road meant to keep out looky-loos and day trippers, homes that seem to blend in perfectly with the woods, and its own interesting subculture (I bet there are some great stories and historical moments experienced by Bruce and other locals!)

Rustic luxury

we absolutely loved our stay at this beautiful house perched in the treetops. Very private and equipped with everything you could possibly want including 2 big decks and a hop tub. All with gorgeous views. Be prepared for a very steep ride to the house.

Osprey's Rest was much more than my friends and I expected. It is so secluded and serene but with every amenity provided. Plenty to do in the area for varied interests. We were just so pleased were all were thinking of another occasion to return.

Wine-tasting (some of California's finest wineries are located very nearby), Sunbathing on our deck, canoeing the Russian River (canoe rental facilities are nearby). From the house remote walking trails begin and birdwatching - especially of our own Osprey nest viewable from the living room and deck - is superlative! For relaxing at the house, the are two large decks and - outside the front entry in a circle of tall redwoods - is a steaming hot tub (available mid-May through October). The living room provides a panoramic view of the forest through a wall of large panoramic windows.
