Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

The reason we chose this house as it is one of the few that is handicap accessible. My husband is wheelchair bound and we always take our two dogs. To find a place that will accommodate both is rare! We were very pleased. The house is very clean and nicely decorated. Kitchen well equipped The doors were wide enough for my husband to get through easily, shower was easily accessible for him to transfer to the pull down bench in the shower. There is a small ramp to get him out on the porch which we enjoyed very much. The cooler mornings on the porch with a cup of coffee was a welcome relief from the stifling heat of the city! Very quiet and peaceful. The bed was very comfortable. It is high but was doable for him to get in. Fenced back yard was perfect for my two dogs, a beagle and a pomeranian, to be able to get off leash and sniff around. We regretted not renting it for longer!

We will definitely go back again. We want to go back when the leaves start to turn and I bet it will really be gorgeous. Thanks Larry and Joyce for sharing your place!

We loved the cabin.

  • 5 of 5

The location was beautiful. It was quiet and we enjoyed the stay. Larry and Joyce were wonderful host. We were traveling with our 20 year old grandson who has CP and is in a power chair. After rearranging some furniture for more space, the main floor of the cabin was perfect for us.

Larry did research and found an accessible waterfall. It was beautiful. We did the train ride from Blue Rudge, GA to Copper Mill, TN. Following the river. The train had an accessible car. Wonderful location that met our special needs. We will be doing a return trip to the "Little Cabin in the Woods"!

The owner was helpful when we got lost in the woods. We enjoyed hiking, the only thing that stoped us from activities is the rain every day.The tv Chanel's were great, so basically we would definitely come back.Thank you!

Wheelchair accessible does not mean handicapped friendly

  • 3 of 5

In researching cabins for rent, we had some special needs as my husband is wheelchair-bound and we are in our mid-seventies. Husband cannot stand without a grab bar or something solid to hold onto. The following is our experience:

There is a ramp and the owner has added a small concrete pad which aids in getting the wheelchair off the trailer and passenger loading. The transition from ramp to porch is a little high or sharply angled though and I almost fell a couple of times coming out of the house to the car because it is easy for shoes to slide on it.

Inside, the great room is nicely furnished but not crowded so that my husband could get around in the wheelchair just fine. I just removed one of the dining chairs and he could sit at the table in his wheelchair.

This is a lovely cabin which is exceptionally clean and well-maintained. It is nicely decorated and appointed, good appliances, dishes, etc. It has a great kitchen.

The owners are very nice, accessible and have supplied very good information on the area with restaurant and tourist details. There are clear instructions for using the TV, DVD player and connecting to the internet. We had no problem using the entertainment options on the main floor.

The master bedroom is pretty and has a very comfortable mattress. The problem is that the new hightop mattresses are too high for some people to get into. I am 5' 4" and my feet would not touch the floor if sitting on the side of the bed. I had to sort of slide off. Husband could not possibly get in, so he slept on the sofa during our stay.

The owner had installed a chair-type addition on the toilet which was very sturdy, but is low and isn't high enough to provide any stability while standing. It did help with the transition back into the chair, but he would have to leave the room in order to get to a place where he could safely pull his clothes back up. The shower has a fold-down, padded seat and grab bars, but was not accessible for my husband. It was strictly a "wash up" situation for him during our stay.

Obviously we could not avail ourselves of amenities like the pool table or the firepit since stairs had to be navigated to get to them. I did walk around and could see that those without mobility problems would enjoy them.

We loved the wildlife and this is a lovely cabin which I can highly recommend, if you don't have the special needs we did. We enjoyed the things we could use and urge you to consider it.

Owner's Response: Patricia, Thanks for the very helpful review. Because of your comments, we will paint the ramp with a non-slip paint When we have to replace the mattress it will be with a lower type one. I have found a toilet seat that will raise the seat four inches and have ordered it. We try to make it as accessible as we know how and your information was just what we needed to make it better, even if we can't make it ADA comparable.

Quiet and secluted

  • 5 of 5

We had a great relaxing and quite. It was nice to wind down from the heavy schedule at work and just slow are minds down. We listened to all of wild life and hearing the rain on the steel roof. The owners are great and we can't thank them enough.
