About Dan Youngblood

'Forty something' married, professional couple in the Atlanta area. 2 young kids and a large extended family. We both grew up on lakes and rivers. Love the outdoors, nature, family, adventure, and watersports.

Dan Youngblood purchased this house in 2003

Why Dan Youngblood chose Dawsonville

My wife and I both grew up on lakes and rivers, and we want to share that experience with our kids and extended family. We love Lake Lanier -- what a beautiful lake!! In particular, we really love the northwest part of the lake since it is farther away from the crowds and rough water. Also, it's closer to the foothills of the North Georgia mountains and all of the wonderful things that area has to offer.

For several years, we tried to find a nice, big rental house on Lake Lanier for gatherings with extended family. Unfortunately, we were always disappointed with what was available for rent. Often, the houses were old and rundown with few amenities, and the owners were not very accommodating or customer-service oriented.

So realizing that there must be other families out there like ours, we decided to build a house from the ground up specifically catering to the high-end market for larger groups. Our house is one of the largest rental houses available on the lake, and we're sure that you'll agree that our amenities and location can't be beat!!

We had a wonderful time!

  • 5 of 5

This house is really spectacular. The view of the lake was captivating, especially out the cathedral windows. The furniture was comfy and all the appliances were modern. We especially appreciated the large and modern hot tub, as well as the fun pool table. The best thing about the house is that while it is easy to get to, it nevertheless gives you a real sense of being by yourself, out in the country, away from everything. We hope we get to come back soon!

Beautiful views and lots of room!

  • 4 of 5

We held a work staff planning retreat. There was plenty of room for hanging out, meeting, eating, etc. The home was clean and well equipped. The owner is great to work with!

Plenty of Room

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this property from December 26, 2017-January 2, 2018. The property is larger than it appears from the outside. It is directly on the lake so the views are lovely. There are 5 bedrooms, 4 have queens or kings, but one is a "bunk" room with 6 beds--great for kids. Two separate living spaces worked out great for a large family get together. The adults generally visited upstairs, while the teens used the downstairs area for playing video games, pool, and enjoyed the hot tub. It is a nice property with finishes that can be enjoyed by a family--not so fancy that you worry about normal wear and tear--but nice for sure. The wall of windows overlooking the lake really give the place a lived-in "cabin" feel.

The town of Dawsonville has really developed over the past few years and there are plenty of nice restaurants and shopping opportunities within 10-15 minutes of the cabin (IHOP, Longhorn Steaks, Honeybaked Ham, etc). The cabin is nestled nicely in the woods so that it feels "rural" and vacation-like. For those visiting from outside Georgia and wanting to visit downtown Atlanta, plan to drive about an hour each way. It was a great location and met all of our needs.

Everything worked--televisions, wi-fi-, appliances, etc. Dan Youngblood was very responsive and accommodating.

Nice and Relaxing

  • 4 of 5

We held a couples retreat for a group from our church. It worked almost perfectly for us (we could have used another bedroom, but that's not the fault of the home). There was plenty of room for hanging out, meeting, eating, etc. The view was spectacular and had it been warmer, the lake would have been amazing to enjoy more up close and personal :)! The home was clean and equipped with most everything we could have needed (maybe another fridge would have helped but not a big deal). Thanks for providing a place for us to hang out together...we had a blast!

beautiful views house needs work

  • 2 of 5

the house has excellent views and very beautiful common space for big/multi families. The kids played outside on the yard building forts and skipping rocks. They didn't complain at all. The house manager also brought us firewood which was very nice.

Few key areas that need work:

there was only hot water for 5 minutes at a time. There is a big beautiful tub upstairs but this tub will only fill 4 inches with water before the hot water runs out completely. This did not and will not work with larger groups and many of us had to go without hot showers.

The hot water on the hot tub seems to need constant attention or it won't heat up nor was it ready upon arrival or even useable the first day. This was a bummer as the hot tub was a big reason we rented this house.

The linens on all the beds were pretty old if these were updated it'd be much easier to sleep at night.

Lastly the toilets/plumbing seems to be very fragile there is signage up in the restrooms explaining this but we did not just how fragile these are. Be prepared to pay the cost of replacing an entire sump pump + labor if you clog one of the toilets.

ALL in all the place and area was beautiful but i would not recommend it as per the details listed above.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the feedback, and thanks for your time on the phone! We're always happy to hear suggestions on how we can improve the experience for our guests. We have taken steps to address all of the issues you mentioned in your review. After your stay, it came to our attention that one of the heating elements in the hot water heater had gone bad. The hot water heater has been replaced with a new, more powerful unit with a larger tank. We typically keep the hot tub on an “away” setting so that heats the water on a periodic schedule. Under normal circumstances, this setting keeps the hot tub at a constant temperature. The outside temperature was abnormally cold during your stay (lows in the teens), so the hot tub was not able to keep up under those conditions. We have changed the setting to “always on” so that the hot tub heats continuously as needed to ensure that it stays at the desired temperature. We provide luxury bedding and linens on all of our beds. We have checked all of the bedding and linens and replaced as needed to make sure that they are all in excellent condition. Like all houses in our area, the house is on a septic system. The pumps in a septic system do not handle foreign materials well. We provide instructions in the contract and confirmation statement as well as signs in the bathrooms as a reminder to our guests. Unfortunately, foreign materials were flushed down the toilet during your stay which burned out the motor in the pump. In 15 years of renting the house, we have not had any issues with the septic system, toilets or plumbing. Thanks again for your feedback! It is very helpful for us as we strive to give our guests the best experience possible.

Wonderful place for a family getaway

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful place to get away! Lots of spacious room for catching up with family. Everything was super clean and up to date. The owner Dan was very kind and was just a phone call away if we needed him. It was a super cold and snowy weekend for us when we arrived but it was warm inside. Thanks Dan for allowing me to meet up for a ladies weekend with my family.
