The lake is slowly drawn down after labor day and continues to drop to approx 50 linear feet at lowest level during the winter months (lake depth over 200 feet in areas) and typically starts coming back up in March . Although the private dock is typically floating from April 15 to October 15 and rests on the shore bank from mid October to early April guests can step off dock walkway and access the water by walking down the bank which is typically dry with shale/rocks.

About owner/property manager

My husband, daughter, and I love this area and this house with a passion which is why we called it Fontana Passion Lake Lodge. We love the peaceful 12,000 acre lake with 240 miles of shoreline which provides numerous opportunities for the outdoor sportsperson. We personally love to waterski, kneeboad, and kayak.

My husband is a physical therapist and I am in medical sales.

We hope you love this house and area as much as we do and come back often to relax, enjoy the beautiful scenery, and reenergize.

owner/property manager purchased this lodge in 2011

Why owner/property manager chose Smoky Mountains

We have been going to this area for over 30 years and always wanted to own property there. Since 85% of property on Fontana Lake is owned by the forest service (accounts for the minimal boat traffic, unspoiled, and peaceful area )we were fortunate to find this property for sale and made our dream come true. We love the close proximity to Asheville, mountain biking, rafting, tubing at Bryson City, casinos at Cherokee, and breathtaking mountain views.

What makes this lodge unique

Directly on the lake with immediate water access and private boat dock with slide. Secluded area with minimal homes and boat traffic on lake to enjoy the scenery.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"I want to let you know what a wonderful time my entire family had at the lake and the lake house made it a special time for all of us. The house is absolutely gorgeous, with lovely decorations and amenities. All of the beds were very comfortable. The downstairs ice maker was a great idea as well as all of the entertainment items."

Absolutely perfect stay outside of missing some basic (extra) housekeeping supplies. Would recommend this home to anyone looking for a luxury getaway in the mountains!

My family (including wife, mom, dad, brother, sister and 6 children) took the children to the Polar Express in Bryson City. We needed a house that would accommodate everyone. We were not disappointed in this house. There was a movie room, games, x-box, etc. for the kids and plenty of space for the adults. The house was very clean when we arrived and the owner of the house called us a day before the trip to answer any questions we had. I would recommend this house to anyone visiting Bryson City, Robbinsville or the surrounding area.

Unreal potential, Beautiful views, Poor management

  • 2 of 5

Let's start with what was dirty or broken. The jacuzzi did not retain heat and the water was unsanitary. In a matter of 20-30 minutes the water level abruptly dropped to about half empty and forced us to run inside. The fireplace in the basement did not work and the grill out back was disgusting. The towels in the basement bathroom looked dirty and a hand towel found in a kitchen drawer was crusty. The double doors in the basement wouldn't stay closed and wouldn't lock either. It looks like the upper latches at the top of the doors were damaged from forced entry and never repaired. On the bright side, the location of the home is superb and the place has an abundance of potential. I'm not sure if it was just neglected in the offseason but it was not what I expected. After leaving the lodge I had broke out with what appeared to be bedbug bites (not 100%) but a severe rash ensued the day we left. With concern of future guests, we reached out to the owner and received a rather rude response. I was accused of "baseless accusations" and "false accusations". We simply brought it to Gaylene's attention and believe it was worth looking into. Concerned there were bedbug bites, I got on here to check reviews and did NOT find a single one regarding issues with bugs, but after reading Gaylene's replies to some reviews I thought I'd write about my experience. I am 100% confident that the cause of this breakout arose from the lodge and would recommend that all future guests do a thorough walk thru upon arrival. On that note, after reading dozens of reviews I'm sure the place is amazing during the summer when it receives more attention.

Owner's Response: Future guests: This review is not accurate and is contradictory. The 1 guest out of a group of 14 that left this review did not notify their group organizer of these issues until 3 days after they left my home and had spent 3 nights in different hotels traveling back to New York. I had the Orkin inspector who specializes in these complaints come the following day after notification who inspected every single mattress down to its inner core, every bed, every bedroom, and found absolutely no evidence of bed bugs. I confirmed this to the group organizer yet this 1 guest continued with this review. All my paperwork requests that guests contact the cleaning crew with any cleaning issues w the house/hot tub immediately so they can correct any issues since they live in the area and are responsible for the cleanliness of the house. Unfortunately this was not done. The hot tub was completely drained, filters sanitized and refilled with fresh water right before this rental. Regarding the water temp, I have detailed instructions by the hot tub on changing the settings to different modes (sleep, economy, standard) to maintain the water temperature. As far as the water level dropping suddenly, the only way the water level can drop is if a very large bore tube is put in the hot tub to drain it. The cleaning crew did not have to refill the hot tub on these guests check out since the water level was full. Regarding the doors downstairs, the cleaning crew locks them after every cleaning. I had installed some hardware 6 years ago without proper tools on the INSIDE of the doors so the suggestion of forced entry is inaccurate. All towels and linens in the house are washed and dried after every rental of course! The previous guests must have turned off the pilot light on the downstairs fireplace although the instructions for lighting the pilot light are by the fireplace. The cleaning crew is experienced and competent and are there every week to clean. I am there EVERY single month year round to manage my home, so the claim of the "off season" is also inaccurate. I take guest satisfaction, upkeep, and maintenance very seriously and work very hard to keep this house in tip top shape. In summary, I request the group organizer of rentals to handle and keep their group informed of all written communication to avoid misunderstandings, stress, and confusion.

50th Anniversary- A Family Celebration

  • 5 of 5

Wow! Fontana Passion was perfect for our weekend celebrating our parents 50th Wedding Anniversary! Everyone had plenty of room to spread out for a relaxing weekend. Many in our group really enjoyed downstairs in the theater room as well as ping pong/pool table. There was never a dull moment. The owners have certainly thought of everything and have made every effort to make this cabin feel warm and cozy! The only downside is the extremely low lake level this time of year (completely out of the owners control). The owner was a true pleasure to work with and supplied us with ample information to make sure our stay was perfect. Thank you for sharing Fontana Passion with us. We'll be back!

Beautiful house and scenary

  • 4 of 5

The house was amazing. Something I would live in. It was beautifully kept, had lots of room and activities. Loved it. The only thing that was a bit of a concern was the water in the lake was so low, it was hard to get to the water. Otherwise, we had an awesome time.

Owner's Response: For future guests: Fontana Lake is a TVA controlled lake so the water levels vary during the year. As noted on the website and on all my paperwork, TVA starts to slowly draw the water level down after labor day and starts bringing it back up in March although there is always a lot of water in Fontana Lake. Typically the dock is not floating from mid October until mid April so I have added a 25' dock walkway to keep the dock floating longer. For the first time in over 6 years, TVA lowered the water level early this year which I have communicated to all future guests including the guests that wrote this review so there should have been no suprise.

Fantastic!!

  • 5 of 5

The boat was great and we were able to enjoy it all but 2 days. One day of rain and the other we just decided to stay in and enjoy the rec room downstairs. I even sat in the room off of the game room and read with my coffee one morning. So we enjoyed it ALL!!!

We kayaked and had a fire out back, sat in the hot tub and the theater room was …. WOW!! My favorite things was to come in from a fun day on the lake, shower, get snacks and head downstairs to watch movies after a wonderful dinner on the grill.

Oh and the ice maker ‘Brilliant’.
