Located on the southwestern tip of Mount Desert Island, Bass Harbor is a charming and authentic Maine fishing village known for its scenic harbor, working lobster boats, and rugged coastal beauty. Unlike the busier towns on the island, Bass Harbor offers a quiet, laid-back atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for those seeking a more off-the-beaten-path experience.
One of the area’s most iconic landmarks is the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse, perched on a dramatic rocky coastline and offering one of the most photographed sunset views in Maine. The village is also home to some of the island’s freshest seafood, with local lobster shacks serving up the day’s catch straight from the harbor.
Outdoor enthusiasts can explore nearby trails in Acadia National Park, including Ship Harbor and Wonderland, both offering easy coastal walks with stunning ocean views. Bass Harbor is also the departure point for ferries to Swan’s Island and Frenchboro, perfect for adventurers looking to explore Maine’s offshore communities.

We had such an amazing stay! We stayed for over a week and loved how much space we had. Might be a bit farther out, but it’s so worth it to have a nice and clean space to recharge made it easier to explore trails in Southwest Harbor. Check in/out was so seamless too! I even left an item behind and they were so incredibly nice about mailing it home to me. Highly recommend and would stay here again if we ever come back.
We enjoyed the large dining room table and all the seating around it! It was fully stocked with all the pots and pans we needed for making dinner/breakfast! We were only 8 people and fit comfortably. We also got to enjoy the outside seating areas! It was close to the lighthouse and a few spots for food and hiking/walking which were all great!
It was quiet and spotless, and comfy. Had separate hangout spots for different family members. Not too far feom Acadia and Bar Harbor. Would definitely stay here again. Very simple check in/out!
I have nothing but great things to say about the Owl’s Nest. It was clean, beautiful and we loved hanging out by the fire pit outside. The woods in the backyard allowed for privacy and some animal visitors. We have already talked about returning to this area and renting the Owl’s Nest again! If you want the perfect home in the perfect location, this is the home for you.
Cute little house on a quiet road off away from all the hubbub of Acadia and Bar Harbor.
Everything was clean and functional. Couldn’t ask for anything else! A perfect little stay!
We had a wonderful time staying here. The place was very clean, comfortable, and spacious, and we felt so at home. Check-in and check-out were smooth and easy, which made our stay even more enjoyable. We are truly grateful for such a lovely experience and would love to come back again. Thank you so much for having us!
This house was perfect! We loved the location, everyone had a bed and the kids had enough space to play! The kitchen was fully stocked including tupperware, which as a group with 5 kids was super helpful! Highy recommend!
We LOVED this house! It was a perfect retreat getaway & had a great amount of space for our large group of people. The house was cozy and inviting and had everything we needed. We loved the front porch, large kitchen, and comfy beds. The location was perfect and we loved exploring Acadia! Would book again!
My family did a quick 3 night stay to hike around Acadia National Park. Perfect location. It also is very near Bass Harbor Lighthouse which is a must for sunset and Ship Harbor Trail. The rental is very clean and cozy. Perfect kitchen nook for playing games. We cooked all three nights with ease. Highly recommend a stay here.
Great house! There was 13 of us and we fit comfortably. I like that it was away from all the crowds but close enough to get to everything we wanted to do. Host was very responsive when we ran into an issue. Would definitely stay here again.
Our family decided to all take a trip together. There were 10 of us including children and adults. The property was lovely. It was very clean, updated, and nicely furnished. The beds were very comfortable. The back yard was private and in the evening we had a nice fire in the fire bowl. We liked the privacy we had here and it was a nice distance from everything we wished to visit in Acadia. The AC's were a big plus as it was hotter than it usually is in Maine. We had a terrific time and really loved this property in the woods.
We stayed for 5 days in this absolutely gem of a house. The location was perfect - away from the very crowded Bar Harbor, yet close enough that we could make multiple trips there. The immediate neighborhood is lovely, a nice street with lovely homes. The description made it feel like it’s in a secluded place - it’s a lovely neighborhood- you see people but they are not in your face! Nice Main Street has a bunch of lovely restaurants which we throroughly enjoyed. The management was super responsive and answered all our questions almost immediately.
Unlike the other rustic, old homes in the area this house is beautifully renovated with modern bathrooms. The bedrooms are BIG and done up so nicely, it felt like home! The sunroom was just to die for. Both living rooms were lovely and the two TVs were a bonus as the kids could watch their own shows. The Wi-Fi was great. The kitchen is modern and has everything. I accidentally damaged the stove top kettle but the management was super nice and said “accidents happen!”. The backyard is well-kept and so serene.
If you are planning to be in the Bar Harbor/Acadia National Park area DO NOT miss this house. You will thank me for saying this. We can’t wait to go back there next year.
The house was in a great location. Felt very cozy and comfortable - also quiet; it is tucked away in the woods with neighbors around but not super close. Very clean with everything you could need. We had 8 staying, and it was perfect - could even fit a few more easily! My family really enjoyed it! Additionally, had the best communication with the property manager I have ever had with a VRBO.
Immaculately clean, well stocked with linens, towels, dishes, kitchen essentials. Absolutely perfect for families with small children -- super clean but not fancy and has obvious wear and tear on cabinets, trim, and flooring. Very little in the house that could be broken. Host is very responsive to messages. Near a nice little market, gas station, and a great seafood restaurant. Easy to get to anywhere on Mount Desert Island.
