We appreciate our third five star review and believe the new bed mattresses we installed in 2018 contributed to this rating.
The antique full bed in the master bedroom - the West Elk Suite - was replaced by a new Queen bed.
The cabin provides a wonderful combination of modern elegance and comfort in a rustic atmosphere.
This cabin is located in a perfect spot to sit and enjoy the town and the Quartz Creek. While there we were able to watch mule deer and hummingbirds frequenting the creek.

Quartz Creek cabin
Location was great and the host was very kind. After that it wasn’t so great.
1. Access to upstairs was very difficult and did not see it describing the listing. Small opening in the floor, steep ladder like an attic would have, wasn’t able to get luggage through the opening
2. Weren’t allowed access to the washer & dryer do to being broken
3. Wasn’t allowed to use the RV hookups even though it was included in the listing due to not making arrangements in advance. Had to run my generator
4. Infested with mice. As we would sit in the living room watching TV there would be multiple bold mice scaling the fireplace and running around
We go to Colorado a lot and stay in all types of places but this was a first with these kind of issues

Our team have provided excellent care for select groups for the past 20 years and we were disappointed the guest did not advise my local property manager nor myself of any issues during the stay. We appreciate feedback but feel the extremely low rating is unwarranted. One issue could have been immediately resolved - while other such as House rules clarified early in the guests stay.
The guest agreed to a rental contract via VRBO that highlighted the ladder-stair access to the upstairs bedrooms and bathroom; and was emailed a Welcome Guide- this also detailed the ladder-stair access. Neither document mentioned an RV hookup nor washer and dryer availability.
A few days before the rental term the guest asked to use our RV ‘hookup’ for one guest; he was advised this was considered camping in Pitkin and was disallowed by Town ordinance. He stated the RV would be at the site regardless as it was used to pull a trailer. Our cabin 50 amp dedicated RV line (was installed prior to the camping ordinance) has a breaker which is typically off. It is regretful a generator was used to power the RV unit after use was expressly disallowed.
The ladder-stair is original to the cabin and guests are typically briefed as this should not be a surprise upon arrival. While people of all ages, shapes and sizes have used this without complaint for nearly 50 years, we regret the guest failed to see this reference in either document and had difficulty using the ladder-stair.
The washer and dryer are functional, but having replaced the circuit board twice after use by guests, we have the breaker off and mark the unit ‘do not use’ to prevent use by renters. We regret the misunderstanding - as the guest inquired about a washer-dryer in advance and was told none was available.
Finally, one mouse in the house is too many! We employ typical redolent control measures and greatly regret more than one mouse was active during the stay. Had our local property manager - whose name and telephone number is displayed in the hardcopy Welcome guide; then he would have promptly remedied the situation.
We welcome all feedback as this will help improve our guest services. Future guests are encouraged to contact myself or the local property manager to address any questions or concerns. Our team will take additional steps to ensure future guests understand the ladder-stair access to the bedrooms.
We appreciate the guest inquiring about an RV hookup and clothes washer-dryer in advance, but we are dismayed when we receive a poor rating in part due to those items being unavailable. Neither item was available to the renter in advance of their occupancy.
Our family enjoyed every minute that we spent in this cabin. We thoroughly enjoyed setting on the deck and watching the wildlife that comes to drink out of the creek, visiting with the locals at the Silver Plume General Store, and enjoying the fresh cool mountain air. Pitkin is such a fun little community, and we felt right at home. We can't wait to go back!!
We were privileged to stay in such a warm and inviting cabin! The location was perfect for the quietness we were looking for, yet close to the trails and the store for convenience! We were greeted warmly by one of the proprietors who showed us the cabin and all the amenities. The cabin is full of history and personality! Needless to say, we loved our time in this beautiful cabin in charming Pitkin, Colorado!! The Kelley’s are amazing 👍. Thank you for sharing!!!

Mr Bill A. was an excellent guest and left the cabin in perfect order.
We upgraded the bedrooms with new 14 inch thick medium-soft mattresses that incorporate a modern box spring system within the unit.
The master bedroom we call the West Elk Suite was outfitted with a new Queen bed.

Rocky Mountain Gold
I come to Colorado every year to ride ATV's when the Aspens turn gold. This was a great location for us because there was excellent parking for my truck, trailer, and 5 ATV's. There is also enough room for a large RV to park with a 50 amp elec. hook up, which I had planned on using but my RV broke down and ultimately didn't make the trip. Thomas the owner, even offered to let me stay an extra day when I got in a day late when my RV broke down. The owners were very nice and easy to work with and provide a lot of information about the area. The cabin is in a perfect location in the small town of Pitkin, it sits above a creek that runs thru town that you can fish for trout in the back yard. The cabin itself is very unique with lots of books on the history of the area, and just about anything you can think of hanging on the walls, like when you go in a Cracker Barrel Restaurant but in a good way. You just need to sit down in the living room and look around and you will notice something different everyday. The stairs going up to the bedrooms and bathroom are more like a ladder than stairs. My mother who is 78 years old and in excellent shape was able to manage them without problem, but her 78 year old boyfriend could not because of a bad hip. This is one thing to consider with this rental but I was informed of this the very first time I contacted Thomas it is not something they are trying to hide it is just how the cabin is. I slept in the master bedroom which has plenty of room, I don't know how old the mattress is, I would guess old because it sinks down in the middle quite a bit but I still slept great. The bathroom was small but nice, clean and newly remodeled, with nice towels, shampoo and soap. The only place you can bathe is in the upstairs bathroom, there is only a toilet down stairs but no complaints, I new this going in. Thomas's father met us on arrival and gave us a walk thru explaining everything like the wood stove and general information which was helpful, usually you just have a book explaining the rental, which they also have but it was nice to have an explanation in person.
This is not a high end hotel or resort style property, it is a rustic, unique, well used, clean, authentic family cabin that I will recommend to my friends, and if I come to the area again I hope to be able to stay in again. The area is great for ATV's, hiking , biking, hunting and just being in the outdoors. Thank you Thomas for sharing your family cabin with my family.
