Guestbook comments from the owner

What a lovely stay with friends to usher in 2016! The cabin was super close to skiing, and sledding right out the front door! Good directions here and for our stay, and well-stocked kitchen. Plenty of space for 2 families +. Thank you for a great stay.

Tranquil Hideaway!

  • 5 of 5

This hidden gem was a great getaway for our annual mother-daughter glamping trip! We had 11 people and the cabin provided plenty of space for all of us. We will definitely come back next year!

Goldilocks at upscale Estate of 3 Bears

  • 4 of 5

Saw no bears, just chipmunks outside. Hosted a family reunion here. 10 of us stayed in this cabin. Beautiful, roomy, comfortable beds. In July the river is still rushing by loudly, but doors and windows, that all provide great views, shut out the sound when it becomes too much.

My daughter-in-law said it was most beautiful place she's ever stayed. It rained most of time we were there, so we availed ourselves cold mornings of the easy to use gas stove for both heat and ambiance. Everything worked, but glad I took a hand grater with me. It seemed to be the only accouterments they didn't have, or I didn't find.

Some of us enjoyed a wine tasting at a beautiful winery nearby and both porch and balcony provide protected places to sit to enjoy river and view visit one another or read.

One nigbt we had additional family over for a pot luck and there was plenty of room with long table in Kitchen and another one on balcony

Easy drive to and from Salida and interesting things to do nearby, but no real space around cabin, nor trails into woods or along river that we were aware of. We did play corn hole in the driveway and games we brought around the big kitchen table.

My only issue with VRBO's in general is all the cleanup one has to do while on vacation. But if doing with family and friends, it can be all part of the fun if everyone pitches in as they do in my family. It just makes the last couple of hours there more work than vaca, but this place was worth it. Or be prepared to pay additional cleaning charges is another option. Having to haul our own trash, even just up the hill to Lodge on highway, seemed a bit over the top for the price. I was also sorry to see they had no recycling of plastic, paper, and glass. We separated and hauled ours out.

But overall it was very comfortable and roomy. We had a good time. And if up for vigorous hiking enjoy the steep rocky road (on foot - says 1 mile feels like 3 -- or in 4 wheel/all terrain vehicle) to trailhead to Boss Lake on an even steeper, rockier trail.

Across the bridge and up the steps is another cabin that could house probably another even larger group for easy access to one another. No one was there while we were, so we had the bridge and river all to ourselves. My son even attempted some fishing downstream but thought the river was too fast, without enough still deep pools which also means no really safe palce for kids to wade or play in water. Just so you know before you go.

Beautiful and cozy.

stunning!!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful first vacation with grown children and grandchildren. The cabin was perfect and the mountain stream was priceless. Really, money can not buy this kind of natural beauty. I would just encourage the home owners to clear away the scruffy grass etc. so that their guest can easily walk down to the creek. This was frustrating that we could not get to the river without wading through tough brush. The only other suggestion is that it would have been so helpful for us to have some suggestions of how to get around. Like what hikes were good and how to get to trail heads. Or where to fish etc. Just things that take awhile for strangers to figure out but that locals know. It was nice to be close to Salida for groceries and restaurants. These are just suggestions. We had a perfect trip. Thanks
