South Haven Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-8)

True beach cottage on the front row on Lake Michigan's Magnificent Mile, beautiful beachfront with only a slope to the shore, no steps to endure. Live on the beach or walk to town for shopping, dining, and entertainment. Bring all the float toys you want or even pull your boat or jet ski right up to our shore for the day, it's your choice. Enjoy an adult beverage on our private beach during the day or a fine bottle of wine at your bonfire after the sun goes down. We've spent many a night watching the sun go down, gazing at the stars, and then watching the sun come up again the next morning. None of which you can do on any of the public beaches. When not on the beach hang on our common area large deck or in our quaint cottage with views of the lake. This is one of the original South Haven cottages that has been remodeled and modernized for your comfort. We upgraded the amenities but left the charm.

A lovely stay right on the beach.

  • 5 of 5

we had such a fun stay in South Haven. This was the perfect location for our family. This cottage is just steps away from the beach. It is small but fit our family of 6 well. We were only inside to sleep. Our kids loved the bunk beds. We utilized the deck for all of our meals. We hope to return next year.

Family friendly, convenient and affordable.

We had a great week at this cottage! We have two little boys and they were stoked about the sailboat bunk beds, not to mention being right on the beach. My wife and I were very glad the bedrooms had AC. The kitchen is small but has the basics covered. Elaborate meals would be difficult but when you are on vacation, who needs complicated? It was our first stay in South Haven and we absolutely loved it. Downtown is within easy walking/biking distance with a decent amount of bars, restaurants and shops. Only two small issues, wifi was very spotty and there was no space to store bikes. Other than that, it is the perfect little beach cottage for a small family.

Owner's Response: So wish I would have known about the bike storage issue, we have plenty of places on the property to safely store bikes, along with other lake toys you might bring along that need to sleep outside.

Decent cottage in a great location

  • 3 of 5

This cottage was a little disappointing. When we first arrived, the cottage smelled of sewage. I walked into the bathroom and the floor was covered in brown water. We texted the owners explaining what we saw and at first, they said it couldn't be sewage because the last people there were the cleaning crew. This was a little aggravating since we were the ones actually looking at it. My husband had to clean it up himself. After some investigating, the owners told us that there was a backup in the pipes so we must have been the cottage that experienced the overflow. The cottage smelled wet and dingy the entire week (even with multiple days of open windows). I must say, once the owners got verification that we were indeed dealing with human waste, they were accommodating. They sent a cleaning crew the next day that took the soiled towels away and cleaned the floors again. They also sent us a VISA gift card for my husband's trouble. I still wouldn't go into the bathroom barefoot that whole week ;)

The pictures make it look bigger and nicer than it actually is. The picture of the master bedroom is very misleading. In reality, the bed is rotated so that 3 sides of the bed are within inches of the wall. My husband and I are fairly tall people (5'10" and 6'2") and our feet touched the window shades when we slept. The person sleeping on the wall side of the bed bad to climb over the other person when it was necessary to get out of bed in the middle of the night. It was very tight. There is no dishwasher, which wasn't a big deal, but they did not have anything to scrub the dishes, so we had to buy one (we did leave one there for the next guests). There was no wifi, either. Although it's nice to "unplug," we used almost all of our data researching restaurants, places to go, things to do, etc. It would have been nice if there was information about the location left by the owners (recommended restaurants, fun events, etc).

On the other hand, the cottage was in a great location. It is right on the beach and it was great with our 2 year old since we had to come and go frequently for lunch and his naps.. Several times, we were the only ones playing in the sand so it was almost like we had our own private beach! We enjoyed the downtown area and marinas. My son was over the moon in love with the sailboat bed! He still talks about it! Overall, it was a great week to spend with family.

Owner's Response: Jessica was right, the complex had a serious plumbing problem the day they arrived which caused some unfortunate problems for them. They were real troopers and we did all we could to make up for the inconvenience as quickly as possible, but nonetheless, a situation you would not have to deal with upon your arrival to your vacation spot. Mishap aside, they ended up having a great week. We are a small throwback cottage, true cottage, right on the beach. We've been renting the unit for almost 20 years and some families are still with us from the first week they ever rented. It's a special place set aside in the dunes, especially for relaxing, and making memories. We hope one day you join the thousands of people who have passed through our doors and stayed at our place; we'd love to have you!

Great cottage, great view!

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is absolutely adorable; it's very well decorated. I loved that it was on North Beach away from the crowds but it was only a 15 minute walk (5 minute drive) to downtown. There were also 2 public beaches very close by although the beach is right outside the back door! I loved how the cottages were set up in a row, when you walk down the steps to get to this specific cottage you get a great view of Lake Michigan set behind the cottages. The 2 bedrooms were great, the one with the bunk beds is a little bigger but the "master bedroom" was a perfect size just for me and for a vacation rental. I had a friend and her family over for drinks(4+baby, me) and it was tight but very doable. Kitchen was adequate and bathroom was small but fine for just me. The fireplace worked great, there were window AC units (never used them, it was 70F or lower), and ceiling fans. I had a problem with the door lock when I accidentally did something to it to cause it to alarm but I called Ann and she was immediately available. I would highly recommend it for the view, accommodations, and price!

Great cottage getaway for rest and relaxation.

  • 5 of 5

My family had a wonderful stay at this cottage. We hope to return again next summer.

During our short stay I had a couple questions to ask the owner about this or that and she was very easy to get ahold of, always available to answer any question or concern.
