Relaxing time in Puako

We enjoyed the house and the area! There were 7 of us and plenty of room - the house is beautiful - we had a chef come in one night and prepare a wonderful dinner. We love it here!

Heaven in Puako!

Our family and friends had a magical stay at Hale Ama for a big 50th celebration. Holly the manager and Joe the owner were so kind and attentive to our needs. The little details matter and this house has it all. The neighborhood and Oceanside location made it truly special. We loved it!!! so

amazing house and beautiful views

The house is amazing. plenty of space, beds are very comfortable, the kitchen is fully equipped and the lanai is perfect. The property manager was attentive and responded quickly to one minor hiccup during our stay. My friends and family had an amazing time and we look forward to visiting again soon.

Wife's 50th Birthday Celebration

We really really enjoyed our stay at the Hale Ama. It was a special treat to celebrate my wife's 50th. The views and sunsets are spectacular. The home was lovely, with beautiful furniture, plenty of amenities, and a great size for my family and in-laws. The large deck was a favorite spot perfect for morning coffee and fresh malasadas from up the road. It also was pretty great for afternoon naps after the days adventure. And my girls loved exploring the tide pools discovering all kinds of fish, turtles, eels, and large undamaged seashells. Joe was easy to work with and the local manager Holly took good care of us. Only downside was that we had to leave. Can't wait to return!

Family Vacation

We were here for a destination wedding and took our 20 something adult children along with a girlfriend and friend. The house was fabulous. Great location and Holly, the contact, was available 24/7 with quick communication and sincerity. Would definitely rent this home again!

A HOME not just a house. . .

To give our visit 20 out of 10 stars would be an understatement. Our rave review is that big and truly sincere. The house is beautiful. She took our breath away from the moment we met the buddha in the driveway. Entering the front door we gasped - view, warm wood and colors, inviting chairs, wonderfully stocked kitchen. The pictures do not do the experience justice! What really touched us though - and each of the 5 of us felt it - was the way that this house feels loved. It feels a house designed for humans to be happy in, to be well held in, to find nooks to read in, areas in which to connect. . . It also is a HOME that holds you well when your world falls apart. Two unimaginable griefs visited our group while we were there. We had noticed the love and care in this house, the attention to detail, but it wasn't 'til the unimaginable visited that we truly felt how well she held us. This is no property fixed up for rental. There is a soul that lives in her and we are deeply grateful to her and those who care for her so well. Thank you, thank you. . .

Beachfront Villa - Puako - Amazing

There were 6 of us and we really enjoyed our stay. The house is beautiful and we all had plenty of room. The kitchen is perfect for cooking a meal, which we did many times, and the dining area is roomy too. The sunsets in Puako are incredible - the colors and the contrast. There were sea turtle in back of the house and the water was warm too! It was a perfect break! We will be back!

Great house!

Just as pictured! Well stocked and equipped. Had a couple issues that were taken care of. Great host! ONLY complaint…why such a difficult stove top 😂. Only a couple people in the group of 8 could properly work it!

Puako Paradise

If you're looking for a perfect place to relax, unwind, and enjoy the spirit of the islands, Hale Ama will meet your needs perfectly. Warm breezes, gentle surf, turtles, whales, and dolphins passing the lanai, while world class snorkeling awaits you just beyond your backyard. Each night we enjoyed our evening meal oceanside just before catching another Hawaiian sunset and then retiring for another comfortable, quiet night's sleep. Kayaking is available, along with shoreline hikes, easy access to beautiful beaches, scuba diving, etc. We've vacationed on Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and the big island, and Hale Ama at Puako is our favorite destination. Highly recommend.

A lovely home in Puako

Hale Ama is a beautiful home on the coast - lots of interesting tide pools to explore - snorkeling right outside the door. Lovely beaches close by. A great set up for a larger family with en suite bathrooms. Good working kitchen - great lanai with lots of space. Whales! Rainbows!

Lovely stay in Puako

This is a wonderful property with ample space for a large group. Large bedrooms and open, gracious indoor and outdoor living areas. The home is beautiful, with attractive furnishings and an open layout. Beautiful sunsets every night. The property manager lives nearby and was attentive to any questions or issues that came up. It is conveniently located on the Kohala Coast, very close to Hapuna Beach and nearby resorts and golf courses. A short drive to Waikoloa Village for groceries and shopping. There is also a general store just down the road for immediate needs.

Spoacious Oceanfront Villa

This exceptionally well-appointed Puako Beach house is directly on the water. It offers a very private experience, complete with beautiful tide pools in front of the house and visiting turtles that frequent the area. The main house generously provides three bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. Extensive common areas are well-appointed and welcoming, especially the lanai, which wraps around the ocean side of the house and offers a variety of sitting areas for great conversations (or naps!) The main living room / dining area is spacious, beautifully appointed, and comfortable. The kitchen is extremely well appointed (Wolf induction stovetop; SubZero refrigerator and freezer; food processor, etc.) and comes with a spice drawer and baking supplies, which offer lots of potential for creative morning delicacies or savory late dinners. The TV room easily accommodates gatherings for relaxing around the home theatre. A separate cottage behind the main house offers an exclusive bedroom / bathrooms / small kitchen and sitting room. If a couple in the group needs a little more privacy, this is the spot! It was a delight to be here and we hope to return! It is a gem of a property that assures you will be welcomed with the very best of Hawaii’s hospitality. Aloha!

"Home" in paradise!

Our extended family wanted a "perfect" Hawaii vacation after the trials of Covid. We found it at Hale Ama. Snorkeling, kayaking, beachcombing, and turtle watching are great right behind the house! Even saw dolphins and a whale from the lanai! The accommodations are spacious, well-appointed, and comfortable. Whatever your desire, it seems easily fulfilled. In fact, we enjoyed our stay so much, we spent most of our time just "kicking back" and taking in the ocean view, breeze, and beautiful sunsets. We hope to return, and if you go, I'm confident you won't be disappointed.

Turtle 🐢 town amazing

This is such a beautiful property The house is very well equipped with a great chef kitchen ! But the old Hawaiian feel of the property because of design and art work is just amazing Loved the movie room Spectacular ocean view and sunset. Tons or whales , turtles and great snorkelling just steps from property.

A magical vacation

Our 3 generation family had a wonderful 2 weeks together in Hale Ama. Hale Ama is a beautiful and comfortable beach house in a perfect location. Plenty of space for gathering, and for quiet time. A great well-stocked kitchen and a colorful picnic table on the lanai, that was our meal time gathering space. Nightly sunsets, whales, turtles! Easy communication with Joe and Holly. Mahalo!

Incredible home -- a truly happy place!

Words can't do justice to the beauty, peacefulness and warmth of this house and location. We have stayed in many homes and Hale Ama is by far the best. The house is immaculately cared for by Holly (our greeter & caretaker) and no details have been overlooked by the owner -- from a layout that allows people space as well as gatherings around the outdoor porches; comfortable great rooms; beach & lava shores; the kitchen island and wonderful dining table; to the ocean breezes flowing through the house and bedrooms; to all of the little touches, including snorkeling gear and beach shoes, an extremely well stocked kitchen (a coffee grinder & milk frother as well as a Kitchenaid mixer, Vitamix and Cuisinart!). The house was also incredibly well maintained and clean (a bonus in these days of Covid precautions). We also loved the location with the ocean & tide pool walks out the back door as well as nearby beaches for snorkeling and swimming/boogie boarding and nearby Waimea with great dining options away from all of the resorts. A true gem.

Great stay at Hale Ama

We loved our stay at Hale Ama and recommend it HIGHLY. We were two families of 4 w/teens. Saw turtles daily and didn't need to get on the main highway to do incredible snorkling. The house is beautiful and special. A couple little mishaps along the way, but Holly handled them nicely. If you're on the fence, go for it!

Glorious Stay!

We can not express enough the pleasure we received staying in this well loved home. We stayed for 10 days, and were so sad to leave. Impressed by: the local artwork and finish details of the home, the mango flooring, nano doors, beach location, amazing chefs kitchen, bedroom setup, plus guest house, the lanai, turtles and snorkeling out the front door. Oh, and the sunsets every night. Do yourself a favor and book this place! Thank you Joe! We cared for it like it was our own. Emily + Howard

Bliss at Hale Ama

This is a fantastic property. Hale Ama isn't just in a wonderful location and a truly beautiful home but the owner and property manager are equally as awesome. As a team the communication between them appeared flawless and made our entry and exit of the home stress free and completely enjoyable for the whole trip. Check in and check out was so smooth and easy. We felt very well taken care of. With the island of Hawaii having so much to offer in a variety of locations we felt very centralized for exploring the whole island. Puako, being north of Kona and out of the city, also added some extra relaxation with some peace and quiet. This property is located on a very peaceful street and we felt very comfortable exploring the area. Its also nice to stay in a home where the owner is very much respected by the neighbors and have wonderful things to say about him. I must reaffirm that the pictures of this house do not do it justice and Hale Ama was more magnificent than expected. We loved being able to open up the entire wall facing the ocean to let the Hawaiian breeze into the home. All amenities worked great and the home was able to offer more than we ever needed at all times. Zero complaints, we had a wonderful stay and yes, handfuls of turtles every single day.

A special place in paradise!

Not sure if you can find a better home or location to stay while in paradise! Our family of 8 adults loved this home. Not only was it spacious and beautiful it was also highly functional. The kitchen is equipped with most anything you could desire. There are great gathering areas, our favourite was coffee in the morning viewing whales or watching sunsets on the lanai. Every day we slide the glass doors back and opened the living space to the beautiful breeze and sounds of the ocean. Every night we fell asleep to the sound of the ocean through the screen of the master bedroom lanai door. Best sleep we’ve had in years. Yet there is also enough room to find a quiet corner if you wanted some alone time. The house managers, Peter and Holly, were very gracious and made sure we were well looked after. Dealing with the owner, Joe, was easy and pleasant. We enjoyed the little touches like the water shoes and beach towels provided so we didn’t have to pack our own. We did not have to go far to enjoy the ocean - it’s right out front! We walked the beach, swam with the turtles, snorkeled, kayaked and did some stand up paddle boarding. Sand beaches are a short car drive away. Tearing ourselves away from this house to return home was incredibly hard. We are definitely planing on returning to this amazing Hawaiian home.

Beauty on the Beach

This is my second vacation to Hale Ama! This place is so magical that you never want to leave. Every time I walk through the front door I have to stop and just look at the beauty in front of me. The house is so open and breezy with spectacular views from every room. We would start our day with a beautiful walk along the beach. Jump on in the water in front of the house and you will have a swim with the turtles. Everyday! You can walk for miles on the beach! We would get back and cook breakfast. This kitchen has everything and more. Enjoy sitting on the lanai with the beautiful hand painted picnic table that tells it's story. You will have your own by the end of your trip! Puako is a magical place of it's own. It's quiet and friendly with the greatest little General Store just down the street. We would visit "Da Fish House" everyday just down the road and buy fresh fish. There is an outside built-in Viking grill with sear station and sink. Why go out? So much fun...We enjoyed sitting on the lanai every evening watching the beautiful sunsets and then find ourselves dancing under the stars. The stereo system is easy (Sonos) and you can pair with your own playlist or enjoy theirs. If should leave this slice of heaven, there is so much to see on this side of the Island. We loved the Farmers Market in Waimea and the neighboring little towns. I will always have a special place in my heart and soul for the Hale Ama. Words sometimes just can't say enough. I finally put the camera away because it just can't capture the true beauty. I will be back!
