About this property

Pet-friendly rustic ski cottage! NH Wooded Oasis, one mile to large Ski Resort!

Experience rustic charm at this historic Bartlett Property! At less than a mile to the Bear Peak Ski Lodge, less than 2 miles to snowmobile trailheads, and less than 30 minutes to 5 ski resorts, this cottage is an outdoor enthusiast's oasis! With a fenced yard for dogs and the river a few steps away, you really can't beat it! The newly renovated interior paired with the classic mountain vibes provides the ultimate, middle of the woods retreat, all while providing the comforts of North Conway nearby.

Our cottage has two bedrooms, one full bathroom, and an open concept living design that includes a complete kitchen, living room, and dining area. The dog-friendly house includes a completely secured fenced in yard that also provides a safe play area for children! Rules for dogs are in our manual, but please be sure to clean up after them before you check out!

While a huge positive for many, parents should be warned that the gorgeous, but rushing, Saco River is only a few hundred feet from the back door! Families should feel free to enjoy the river and our sandy beaches during the appropriate months, all at your own risk. During the summer months we do have beach toys for play, as well as tubes for the river available. Just ask!

Back to the cottage, we have a dog crate, food bowls, poop bags, and dog toys available for when your bring your furry best friend! We even have a dog door that give access to the fenced yard. We have one bedroom with a king bed, and one bedroom with a double bed. We also have a fold down sofa in the living room. There are plenty of extra blankets to keep you warm!

We have a smart TV and high speed internet with some viewing options. We also have a safe login option that allows you to log into your streaming channels while ensuring all data and information is erased on your last day in our cottage.

In the kitchen we have a full size oven and gas stove, a full size freezer and fridge, along with a microwave, blender, and full set of all cookware and flatware. We also have a coffee bar that has a Keurig with options to brew single cups or pots, as well as options for all drinking needs including beer/wine/whiskey/cocktails. A free bottle of wine comes with check in for those that are 21+!

Outdoors we have a fire pit that can be used year round. You do need to provide your own wood. We have a year round fire permit and include the information for it in our home manual. You are welcome to utilize the fire pit as long as the rules are followed!

Our cottage is wide open for your use and enjoyment! We ask for respect when it comes to the closet in the secondary bedroom. We keep it open for your use and for extra supplies, but we do keep all of our stocking supplies in there. We hope that access to it won't be abused.

When it comes to dogs, your dog may be unleashed in the house and the fenced in yard, anywhere else on our property the dog is expected to be leashed. You are free to use the river with your dog at your own risk when safe to do so. We do ask to keep the dogs off the furniture in the house.

While the 30 acre property containing this cottage is open for your exploring and enjoyment, please respect the fact that there are many other people living here. Respect the quiet hours and be polite to others!

Our cottage is a super cute and historic piece of Bartlett Folklore. Sky Valley Ranch has existed since the early 1900's and slowly developed into a very sought after cottage and motel resort into the mid 2000's. After being purchased from the Eliason Family just before the pandemic, the Drew Family opened a location for a service dog training organization. For a few years, the entire 30 acres was a puppy's training paradise! Unfortunately, post-pandemic the company had to consolidate and left the ranch.

Now, the Drew family has been determined to keep the history of the Sky Valley Resort in-tact! While many of the living structures are permanently occupied, this cottage has been made available for short term rentals so all can experience the charm and mystique of Sky Valley Ranch!

Our cottage is in the middle of an outdoor oasis that provides more opportunities than you will ever be able to take advantage of. We say this confidently as we live here, and still haven't taken advantage of everything! Please ask us for advice because we have an abundance of information on ski mountains, hiking trails, snowmobiling, river access, camping, local restaurants, bars, and entertainment! We include a large section in our house manual about this and a card that gives discounts at many of our local eateries!

As a side note, Josh is a certified service dog trainer and I am a professional pet behavioral trainer. We can never separate our business from our love of dogs! If you have questions or want training input and lessons on your pup, don't hesitate to ask! We may not always be available, but when we are, we are happy to help!

We are so excited to host you! This is our first rental and truly a dream come true for us! We are super friendly and happy to socialize if you wish to! Please, don't hesitate to let us know if we can do anything to make your stay better. We look forward to booking and meeting you!

A Winter Wonderland Retreat: Perfect for Families and Furry Friends

Our stay at this cozy Lazy Bear Cottage was nothing short of magical! Snowy dog walks to a serene river provided peaceful moments in nature, while evenings were spent enjoying s’mores by the fire pit. When nature caused a brief power outage, the host’s prompt and thoughtful communication ensured we felt supported. The kids had an amazing week skiing at nearby Attitash, making it a perfect getaway for both adventure and relaxation. Highly recommend this home for its charm, location, and excellent hospitality!

Beautiful Cottage & Great Hosts!

This cottage was everything our family friends could have asked for during their nights stay in NH. Beautifully appointed with a lovely welcome basket, and great hosts who were so thorough in ensuring their stay was flawless. The owners provided great directions, and checked in to ensure their guests were enjoying their stay going above and beyond. Would definitely rent The Lazy Bear cottage again!

Hi All!
My name is Marce and my husband's name is Josh. This is our very first short-term rental and something we have been dreaming about starting since we got married! Josh was born and raised right here in the valley, and I am from Guadalajara, Mexico! We met through our love of dogs when Josh ran a service dog non-profit business and I volunteered to learn more about the industry. While neither of us are working for that nonprofit anymore, dogs are forever part of our lives! We ourselves have five pups, and we know how important it is to be able to travel with them. That's why it was so important to us to create a dog-friendly rental. We both still enjoy taking in private training clients in our free time, and we hope to get back to service dogs in the future!

Outside of the dog world, Josh holds a Director's role with the Epilepsy Foundation New England, and I am a part of the team at Lupine Pets - a local company that makes amazing dog collars and leashes and distributes world-wide.

So far we absolutely love hosting guests in a our little cottage! We completely respect the need and desire for privacy, but feel free during your stay to reach out for tips, ideas, and suggestions about things to do and places to see! We love to share our ideas on the area!

We hope you have an amazing stay with us!

Why they chose this property

We LOVE Bartlett. As listed above, Bartlett is the town Josh grew up in most of his life, and then he got me to fall in love with it when we became engaged! We think Bartlett is the most ideal spot to stay for any trip to the Mount Washington Valley. It's far enough away from North Conway to be quiet, peaceful, and feel like you're away in the woods. But it's also close enough that you can be at a grocery store, outlet shops, or your favorite Valley Original Restaurant within 15 minutes. Bartlett is super friendly and low-key, plus it's a great central point for most of the attractions of the area! Our property is less than a mile to Bear Peak Base Lodge, and just minutes to hiking trails. We are only a 30 minutes drive or less to five other major ski mountains as well. Plus, we are right between both notches - both of which lead you to even more "northern weather" in the winter, and gorgeous hiking and camping in the summer. Basically, you can't go wrong with Bartlett!
