Very Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

This is the second time I've stayed here, and I enjoyed it thoroughly both times. The location is gorgeous, especially in the fall. It's a nice distance from everything so you can retreat into the woods, but an easy drive to little local convenience stores and access to hiking trails. There is no cell reception or WiFi, which is very helpful in making sure I can't spoil my own vacation by reading and responding to work emails.

Great rustic cabin

  • 4 of 5

Loved our stay in this secluded, rustic cabin. The location is beautiful, exactly what we wanted. Be sure to bring everything you need, even basics like toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, etc. The post said they were provided but they were not. The lack of privacy was an issue for us because our 2 year old goes to bed early and the bedrooms are not closed off. If I had been aware of the situation I probably wouldn't have booked this cabin, but overall I'm glad I did. If a few bugs, super rustic accommodations and no privacy isn't a big deal for you, this place is paradise! I recommend it :)

Owner's Response: Thank you for the recommendation, I think? Actually we do provide all of the items mentioned. I apologize if there was not enough for this guest but if more is needed we can certainly bring it to you. The cabin has all needed appliances as well including microwave, coffee maker, and charcoal grill. The only thing our guests are asked to bring is food, charcoal and firewood for the outside firepit.

Very rustic but that's just what I wanted.

Cabin could use more movies and better directions to local stores and places to see like the falls since there's no GPS.

Pretty property

  • 3 of 5

If you're looking for an isolated cabin in the woods then this is definitely the place. It is definitely an escape from everything. The pond is huge...Pictures don't do it justice. We even saw a big cat....Maybe a mountain lion? It was too far away to tell for sure. Not having internet was no big deal.

There were some things that need attention. First of all this post on VRBO doesn't tell you that the rooms are open to each other at the top. Meaning though you have the impression of privacy, you can't even have a conversation in your room without everyone hearing it.

Secondly, we were disappointed to discover there was no wood left for us anywhere. There were messages in the house stating we could find it under the porch but there was nothing but a cardboard box.with trash in it. It did get quite cold during our stay and we would have enjoyed it. However, the baseboard heat was enough to keep us warm.

The bathroom was small which for a big guy like me, makes it difficult to do your business. I had to crouch way down to take a shower. The shower coupling doesn't stick on the wall. The handles in the shower are in bad shape. And the floor in there was pretty dirty. Including a few hairs.

And the number one issue was the front porch. Every single deck board was loose and, being in construction I know how dangerous that can be. And while trying to carefully maneuver while walking on the loose planks, I paid no attention to the incredibly wet spot created by the leaking gutter directly in front of the door. So I slipped on the super wet spot and fell on my back. Then of course I pulled myself up and took a seat on the awesome vintage metal bench only to discover it is also broken and I quickly had to get off of that. The painful back made for a difficult few days hiking and kayaking.

All together I would definitely come back because I absolutely love the property. And I love the isolation and feel of staying in a little shack in the woods...But I will have to say that for the amount of money we spend to rent this place I would like to have seen the place a little better kept after. Big bummer when I hurt my back and for anyone renting make sure you pay attention if it's raining to the big, slippery wet spot. It's almost directly in front of the front door dripping down from a leak in the gutter.

And if you get a chance, read the journal entries on the coffee table. A lot of them are pretty funny.
