Kauai Oceanfront Condominium--Our 'Jewel on the Sea' in Poipu, Kauai with AC!

Bedrooms 1
Space 854 sq. ft.
Property type condo
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

Condo, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4), new: air conditioning

Kuhio Shores, our 'Jewel on the Sea,' on Kauai's Gold Coast.

When we first walked into what was to become our new home in Kauai, the views of the ocean, coastline, and lush green hills and palms literally took our breath away! Located on a fantastic snorkeling beach (rated best snorkeling in Kauai by 'Sunset' magazine) and a summer surfing favorite, we could see turtles feeding below the lanai and blowholes out in the distance. Around the corner we saw where we had first learned to snorkel, next to one of the best restaurants in all of Kauai, the Beach House. Our oceanfront, one bedroom condominium, #305 at Kuhio Shores, exceeds our dreams!

If you are on your honeymoon, wish to recapture the romance in your relationship, or you just want to experience the awesome beauty and serenity of this 'jewel on the sea' by yourself, with your family, or friends, this is the ideal home for you when vacationing on the Garden Island of Kauai.

Kuhio Shores is closer to the ocean than an other condo or resort on the entire island of Kauai, with beach access. Learn to snorkel by the Beach House, on the west side of the building (teaming with fish; over 650 varieties in Hawaii!), then get into the water below our lanai to snorkel or dive with turtles! On the south side of our property, relax on the grass and watch surfers (little kids will amaze you!)and whales in winter. Right here, are three of Kauai's premier surf spots: PK'S, Acid Drops, and Centers.

In our completely private, third floor condominium (4 floors total), the only thing you hear is the crashing of the waves. As soon as you open the front door, your eyes go out to the ocean. You have unobstructed views from the kitchen, living room, dining room, bedroom and, of course, the lanai.

Remodeled for the most discriminating guest, our home reflects the Hawaiian tropics. Comfort and beauty are our priority. Bamboo floors glisten in the light of the morning sunrise. New tile and paint, in tropical greens and earth tones, create a peaceful, clean atmosphere. Bathe in luxury in our Noccino Italian marble shower with stone accents. The kitchen features Brazilian, Verdi Peacock granite countertops that reflect the aqua of the ocean, and new stainless steel appliances. In the dining room, bamboo wainscoting and a huge mirror framed in dark tropical wood, reflects the crashing waves, bringing the spectacular beauty of Kauai's nature inside.

The new ultra luxurious, Cal king-size bed, a top-of-the-line resort style pillowtop, is the most comfortable bed we have ever slept on. High thread count cotton sheets are topped with silk filled comforters with cotton duvets, making this a truly clean and blissful bed! Ocean breezes cool you naturally as they are pulled though the bedroom breezeway and new Haiku fans made by the Big Ass Fan company are rated best fans on the market by CNET.

In the livingroom a comfy contemporary/island style queen-size, pull-out couch has a five-inch-thick mattress (no bars or poking springs). Two Hawaiian-style reclining chairs are perfect for laying back to watch the waves, listen to CDs, or watch cable TV. The hand-carved dining room table with rattan chairs is your exclusive seat to spot playful spinner dolphins. On our large lanai are two chaise lounges, chairs and tables; you will be so comfortable, you may not want to leave. Seeing a rainbow, or the moon shimmering over the water will create lifetime memories.

Another feature that sets us apart is that we collect original works of art by renoun artists. Artwork is carefully chosen to reflect the lushness and peace of Kauai. Our masterpiece is by Fred Gemmell. This large scale abstract painting on the back of glass was at sea for a month before it arrived in our Kauai home. Fred 'captures with complex detail and bold gestures, the amazing diversity and adaptability of life in all its interaction and beauty..... to create a feeling of a luminous and unfolding mystery.” We are also proud to display original pastel paintings by local Kauai artist, Helen Turner, the 'Degas' of Hawaii.

Because we know you are probably tired and hungry after your long journey, we give you an 'Aloha Basket' with snacks and coffee, so that you can immediately begin to relax.

The 'Aloha Spirit' truly exists on the island of Kauai. We have done our very best to bring this spirit into our 'Jewel on the Sea.' Photos say more than words so please scroll down below where it says 'CLICK HERE - To View More Photos of Condo.' We also invite you to our facebook page which is dedicated to providing connections for our guests.

About Molla and Kevin Wallace

When we were younger we lived in a cottage by the ocean in Southern California and sadly had to leave. We never dreamed we could ever live by the beach again. Years later, we went on vacation to Kauai as a reprieve from taking care of our ailing parents. At the time we asked a local man about the best place to snorkel on the island. He told us about a small beach by the Beach House Restaurant. We ended up snorkeling there every day of that vacation. The reef was filled with colorful fish, the turquoise water was calm and access was easy. Being in the water there was such a joyful experience! We never dreamed the possibility of owning a condo on Kauai, let alone on our favorite snorkeling beach, but it happened! It gives us great joy to share our 'Jewel on the Sea' with our guests. Over the years we have stayed in contact with many of our guests, some who return year after year. We host a Facebook page that is dedicated to all things Kauai, where you can meet local residents, make plans in advance of your trip and get referrals from our past guests. We are so grateful to provide a beautiful tropical oceanfront home for your special experience on Kauai. We enjoy getting to know our guests and will help you with ideas for your trip. We still live in the San Diego area, in a north coastal town called Encinitas. Dreaming of becoming Kauai residents someday. In the meantime we love working on our Kauai Jewel. We love the arts and have commissioned beautiful pieces that enhance your experience in the space. FYI: We never ask our guests to wire money and we do not advertise on Craig's list. Every year we continue to make improvements. We take great pride in our work on our 'Jewel on the Sea' and continue to do everything possible to add to your enjoyment. Hope you stay with us! We are sure you are going to love it!

Why Molla and Kevin Wallace chose South Shore

Kuhio Shores is where, as one guest described it, 'the location is the destination.' It is closer to the water than any other resort or condo on the island and perhaps, in all of the islands, with swimmable beaches for snorkeling, diving and surfing right at the condo. No need to get into a car. You will hear the sounds of the ocean day and night. From our wall of windows and the lanai you can watch the day turn into night with spectacular sunrises, relax on the lanai while the cool aqua waves roll past the lanai and turtles feed below. Witness a passing shower and rainbows over the water and the tropical greens of Prince Kuhio Park. In winter we get excited by the sighting of a breaching whale. Walk over to the Beach House Restaurant for a delicious meal or bring a drink down to the beach to watch the magnificent sunset. Head back up to the condo to lay on the chaise lounges under the evening stars or gaze at the full moon reflecting over the water. We never tire of the constant lull and beauty of the ocean. Our Jewel on the Sea, #305 Kuhio Shores, exceeds our dreams.

What makes this condo unique

As soon as we opened the door of our 'Jewel on the Sea' we knew we were home and we had to make it happen. We didn't see this at the time (the view would have been enough), but right below our condo is where turtles feed. I have been told by guests who had previously lived in the islands that they have seen more turtles below our lanai during their stay than in all the years that they had lived in Hawaii.

We marry the luxury of upscale resorts with the comfort of a fine home. During a flight back to the mainland an idea came to us about how to increase the airflow. The positioning of our condo in the building was already ideal but now, after creating a 'breezeway,' the condo interior is like a cool wind tunnel and sometimes we need to turn the fans off at night in the summer. With the first cut into the wall we could feel the air getting pulled throughout the entire condo and unexpectedly, we created an ocean view in the bedroom. Next we installed the best fans on the market according to CNet, the 'Haiku,' American made by the Big Ass Fan Company (yes that is the name!!). These hanging sculptural fans circulate the cool ocean air, allowing us to feel comfortable while listening to the calming ocean lull. Just to make sure you are always comfortable, this last spring we installed Air Conditioning so you will always be comfortable.Nothing gives us greater joy than to please our guests. The condo is filled with a love that is palpable from all of our guests who are celebrating their honeymoon, wedding on Kauai, birthday, anniversary, and the joy of taking a vacation on this most beautiful island; a place that we feel is the most beautiful in the world. From what we hear from cognitive science, experiences rather than things make us happy because they create lifetime memories,. We are passionate about creating a beautiful, comfortable home for you so that those experiences made here will stay with you always.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Molla,

We can not thank you enough for sharing your island home with us. We had a wonderful visit to Kaua'i! We would have been happy spending the entire trip sitting on the Lanai watching the waves, whales and the sea turtles. We did venture out to see a good bit of the island and are looking forward to future trips when we can see some more.

Your condo is lovely and very comfortable. The pride of ownership is apparent in all the beautiful natural materials you have used and they really enhance the experience there.

I am mailing the key back tomorrow morning.

We will definately refer your condo to our friends and family (my mother is all ready interested and talking to my dad) and hope to stay with you again when we are able to return. I can't imagine better accomodations anywhere.

Molla and Kevin,

What a beautiful home you have! The view was amazing! For us visiting from Arizona - hearing the ocean day and night was heaven!

I couldn't wait to wake up every morning just to watch the sea turtles. They were magical.

It was definitely one of the best trips we have ever been on. We just loved every minute of it.

We would highly recommend your condo to anyone and everyone! It was so comfortable and inviting!

Thanks and hope we can make it back one day....

Beautiful condo with everything we needed!

  • 5 of 5

The condo was in a great location for snorkeling and enjoying sunsets on the lawn outside Beach house restaurant. It was clean and had everything we needed including all the beach gear, chairs, coolers and snorkel equipment we required. The bed was very comfortable and the breeze way was a nice touch. We snorkeled around the building and had an amazing experience with many turtles. Good surf spot right out front too! We'd definitely stay here again!

The property is in a good location. Can watch the sunrise from the lanai. We enjoyed watching the turtles feed and play every afternoon from the lanai. Nice touches from the housekeeper. Bubbly and 2 glasses in the fridge. Coffee and popcorn. Really good restaurants; one next door or short ride away. Groceries and shopping close by. Beaches and lagoons for swimming and snorkling..

I really loved this condo. The bed was like sleeping on a giant firm pillow. The kitchen had everything to cook with. The laundry was down the hall and always available. Overall, the complex was quiet, safe and comfortable. The best part, was being able to sit on the lanai early in the morning, and watch the sunrise. At the end of the day, we would again sit outside on the lanai and just smile. The ocean was so beautiful to watch from the lanai. We came to Kauai, to attend my nephew's high school graduation and spend all day touring with my sister who lives on the island. This was the best vacation of my life! Thanks for having a clean and beautifully decorated home.

A Jewel Indeed

  • 5 of 5

Kuhio Shores #305 really is a gem. The condo's picture window and lanai directly face a lovely little ocean cove where sea turtles feed on the rocks. One can also see a wide expanse of ocean from the lanai, where whale spouts can be spotted in the distance. During our stay, the sun rose each morning above the landscape just beyond the cove, creating unbelievably spectacular scenes of palm trees silhouetted against the vividly colored sky and water. Each sunrise, with its own pattern of light and color, was unique and glorious. As an artist, I was immensely inspired by this view! I look forward to capturing it in a series of paintings (one of which I began on location on 305's lanai.)

The artist in me also appreciated the lovely, harmonious decor of 305. Beautiful wood floors, plush furnishings with a sea green motif, splendid art on the walls (including one of the artist owner, Molla's, own creations), and attractive ceiling fans give this unit a cheerful island flavor. The bed and furnishings are very comfortable, as well. The kitchen is well stocked with everything one could desire for home away from home cooking.

Owners Molla and Kevin are very thorough with information and very attentive to their guests. Working with them was a pleasant rental experience!

For me the most exciting aspect of our stay here was its splendid wildlife viewing. Turtles in the cove just beyond the lanai. Whales farther out to sea. Birds hopping and singing in the palm trees by the lanai. We also visited an endangered monk seal hauled out for a day snooze on the beach at The Beach House restaurant less than a two minute walk from the condo. (If you are lucky enough to encounter a monk seal, please respect the rope fencing wildlife protection volunteers put up in a perimeter around the animal. This protects both the seal and humans!) The most thrilling wildlife display of all is a flock of hundreds of Rose-ringed Parakeets that roost near the condo each night, flying off each morning to forage elsewhere. Watching these bright emerald birds come and go was an amazing sight and, for me, a truly spiritual experience! They will make a delightful subject for my paintings, as well!

Kauai is truly at one with nature, as all the Hawaiian Islands are. Kuhio Shores 305 was an absolutely ideal base for exploring the island and its natural wonders.

My thanks to owners Molla and Kevin for sharing their beautiful Kauai home with us. I have no doubt we will be back!

This condo is wonderful, great location, great views (ocean and mountains) and comfortable furnishings. This was our second time staying, wish we were still there! We enjoyed seeing the beautiful bright green parakeets every sunrise and sunset, we watched the green sea turtles from the lanai every afternoon. The condo is located within walking distance to shops, restaurants, the beach and Spouting Horn. Love this place and can't wait to return.

The condo's beach is on Kauai's Gold Coast, a snorkeler's paradise. Our beach, "Lawal" or "Beach House Beach" on Poipu Beach, is ranked the best snorkeling on the island by Sunset Magazine: Snorkel different times of the day to see different kinds of fish (650+ types in the islands). Watch endangered giant sea turtles from your lanai. Below the lanai is a shore dive spot, and some of the best surfing is right out the door: PK’s, Centers, and Acid Drop. In the winter watch humpback whales. An endangered monk seal with her pup sun themselves on our beaches. Walking distance to restaurants, shops, markets and galleries. We are next to the Beach House Restaurant, rated best restaurant on Kauai 15+ years in a row. Across the street is a Hawaiian Heiau, sacred to Hawaiians with an historic fishpond. Markers lead you through the property with views out to the ocean. Our micro climate is a sunny, central coastal location: Sightsee, Hike, Bike, Sail, Boogie Board, visit the nationally acclaimed Tropical Botanical Gardens ( one mile, next to the blowhole 'Spouting Horn'), sea and river kayak (Kauai is the only Hawaiian island with navigable rivers), boat tours (catamarans leave from Port Allen to the awe-inspiring Na Pali Coast), Helicopter, movie site ATV, horseback riding, zip-line, tubing, SUP, greatest array of public golf courses is on Kauai. From your door, take a walk along Poipu's dramatic coastline to the Kukuiula Harbor, passing a Tom Weiskopf designed golf course. Our location is designated nationally as one of the most scenic drives in America. The Holo Holo byway slowly meanders through Poipu, beginning with the magical Tunnel of Trees, winding through historic Koloa Town, once a sugar mill. then makai (toward the ocean) to our condo, ending in Spouting Horn and the National Tropical Botanical Gardens, about a mile from your home away from home and where the road ends, limiting traffic. Because there are no roads cutting through the center of Kauai nor on the Nepali Coast, the south shore is centrally located for touring the entire island. Relaxing on the lanai or in reclining chairs in our 'Jewel on the Sea,' with its multi million dollar view of the ever changing sea and sky, and turtles feeding below would be enough. Take a walk through the park, imagining what life used to be like here while enjoying the fragrant scents of plumerias. Pick up a dropped mango to enjoy later. Walk to the shops at Kukuiula for a delicious meal, then stroll creative art galleries, organic soap store (where we buy bath soap for the condo), and other types of shops for home decor and clothing. Bring your bags for the Wed night farmer's culinary market where you can buy home-grown exotic fruits and vegetables, while listening to live soft Hawaiian music. Restaurants from afar bring their delicious dishes. Walk in another direction, passing our neighbor's gorgeous bonsai garden. You can walk down to the resorts on that big crescent beach, stopping in for drinks or some soup before walking back. Get home before sunset and our new guests. I like to keep them a secret if possible, but they are green and red and are adorable!
