Overview

About the property

Oceanfront Condo, 1 bedroom + pullout, 1 Bath, air conditioning, water sports

Kuhio Shores, our 'Jewel on the Sea,' on Kauai's Gold Coast.

When we first walked into what was to become our new home in Kauai, the views of the ocean, coastline, and lush green hills and palms took our breath away! Located on a fantastic snorkeling beach (rated best snorkeling in Kauai by 'Sunset' magazine) and a summer surfing favorite, we could see turtles feeding below the lanai and blowholes out in the distance. Around the corner, we saw where we had first learned to snorkel, next to one of the best restaurants in all of Kauai, the Beach House. Our oceanfront, one bedroom condominium, #305 at Kuhio Shores, exceeds our dreams!

If you are on your honeymoon, wish to recapture the romance in your relationship, or you just want to experience the awesome beauty and serenity of this 'Jewel on the Sea' by yourself, with your family or friends, this is the ideal home for you when vacationing on the Garden Island of Kauai. Kuhio Shores is closer to the ocean than any other condo or resort on the entire island of Kauai, with beach access. Learn to snorkel by the Beach House, on the west side of the building (teaming with fish; over 650 varieties in Hawaii!), then get into the water below our lanai to snorkel or dive with turtles! On the south side of our property, relax on the grass and watch surfers (little kids will amaze you!)and spot whales in winter. Right here, are three of Kauai's premier surf spots: PK'S, Acid Drops, and Centers.

In our completely private, third floor condominium (4 floors total), the only thing you hear is the crashing of the waves. As soon as you open the front door, your eyes go out to the ocean. You have unobstructed views from the kitchen, living room, dining room, bedroom and, of course, the lanai.

Remodeled for the most discriminating guest, our home reflects the Hawaiian tropics. Comfort, beauty and a clean environment are our priority. Bamboo floors glisten in the light of the morning sun. Finishes, in tropical greens and earth tones, create a peaceful, clean atmosphere. Bathe in luxury in our Noccino Italian marble shower with stone accents. The kitchen features Brazilian, Verdi Peacock granite countertops that reflect the aqua of the ocean, and new stainless steel appliances. In the dining room, bamboo wainscoting and a large mirror framed in dark tropical wood, reflects the crashing waves, bringing the spectacular beauty of Kauai's nature inside.

The new ultra luxurious, Cal king-size bed, a top-of-the-line resort style pillowtop, is the most comfortable bed we have ever slept on. We use high thread count sheets. Next we take a silk filled comforter and cover it with cool understated duvets. We add a beautiful embroidered bed scarf, making this a truly clean and blissful bed! Ocean breezes cool you naturally as they are pulled through the bedroom breezeway and new Haiku fans made by the Big Ass Fan company, rated best fans on the market by CNET. In 2017 we installed air conditioning. It is rare to find condos with air conditioning on Kauai. Because of the air flow design, air conditioning is not usually needed but we want you to be comfortable even if the Trade winds should stop.

In the living room, a comfy contemporary, island style queen-size pull-out couch has a five-inch-thick mattress (no bars or poking springs). Two Hawaiian-style reclining chairs are perfect for laying back to watch the waves, listen to CDs, or watch cable TV. The hand-carved dining room table with rattan chairs is your exclusive seat to spot playful spinner dolphins.

On our large lanai are two chaise lounges, chairs, and tables; you will be so comfortable, you may not want to leave. Seeing a rainbow, or the moon shimmering over the water will create lifetime memories.

We love the arts so we collect original works of art by renown artists that reflect the lushness and peace of Kauai. Our masterpiece is by Fred Gemmell. This large-scale abstract painting on the back of glass was at sea for a month before it arrived in our Kauai home. "Fred 'captures with complex detail and bold gestures, the amazing diversity, and adaptability of life in all its interaction and beauty..... to create a feeling of a luminous and unfolding mystery.” We are also proud to display original pastel paintings by local Kauai artist, Helen Turner, the 'Degas' of Hawaii.

Because we know you are probably tired and hungry after your long journey, we give you an 'Aloha Basket' with snacks and coffee, so that you can immediately begin to relax.

Walk to restaurants, art galleries, and shops, and enjoy strolling the beautiful coastal walks in several directions to the big resorts, to Spouting Horn and the National Botanical Gardens, to a neighbor's fantastic bonsai collection. Across the street is a Hawaiian Holy Site with ancient fish pond and lush garden of fruit, plumerias and bananas. Take a stroll and find a mango for the next day's breakfast.

The 'Aloha Spirit' truly exists on the island of Kauai. We have done our very best to bring this spirit into our 'Jewel on the Sea.'

About Molla and Kevin Wallace

When we were younger we lived in a cottage overlooking the ocean in Southern California and sadly had to leave. We never dreamed we could ever live by the beach again. Years later, we went on vacation to Kauai as a reprieve from taking care of our ailing parents. At the time we asked a local man about the best place to snorkel on the island. He told us about a small beach by the Beach House Restaurant. We ended up snorkeling there every day of that vacation. The reef was filled with colorful fish, the turquoise water was calm and access was easy. Being in the water there was such a joyful experience! We never dreamed of the possibility of owning a condo on Kauai, let alone on our favorite snorkeling beach, but it happened! It gives us great joy to share our 'Jewel on the Sea' with our guests. Over the years we have stayed in contact with many of our guests, some who return year after year. We host a Facebook page that is dedicated to all things Kauai, where you can meet local residents, make plans in advance of your trip and get referrals from our past guests. We are so grateful to provide a beautiful tropical oceanfront home for your special experience on Kauai. We enjoy getting to know our guests and will help you with ideas for your trip. We still live in the San Diego area, in a north coastal town called Encinitas. Dreaming of becoming a Kauai residents someday. In the meantime, we love working on our Kauai Jewel. We love the arts and have commissioned beautiful pieces that enhance your experience in the space. Every year we continue to make improvements. We take great pride in our work on our 'Jewel on the Sea' and continue to do everything possible to add to your enjoyment. Hope you stay with us! We are sure you are going to love it!

FYI: We never ask our guests to wire money and we do not advertise on Craig's list

Why Molla and Kevin Wallace chose Poipu

Kuhio Shores is where, as one guest described it, 'the location is the destination.' It is closer to the water than any other resort or condo on the island and perhaps, in all of the islands, with swimmable beaches for snorkeling, diving and surfing right at the condo. No need to get into a car. You will hear the sounds of the ocean day and night. From our wall of windows and the lanai, you can watch the day turn into night with spectacular sunrises, relax on the lanai while the cool aqua waves roll past the lanai and turtles feed below. Witness a passing shower and rainbows over the water and the tropical greens of Prince Kuhio Park, the sacred birth place of Prince Kuhio, with its ancient fish pond. In winter we get excited by the sighting of a breaching whale. Walk over to the Beach House Restaurant for a delicious meal or bring a drink down to the beach to watch the magnificent sunset. Head back up to the condo to lay on the chaise lounges under the evening stars or gaze at the full moon reflecting over the water. We never tire of the constant lull and beauty of the ocean. Our Jewel on the Sea, #305 Kuhio Shores, exceeds our dreams.

I have to give kudos to our staff who have never failed to make sure that when you walk in, the condo is clean and ready for you to enjoy an experience of a lifetime.

What makes this condo unique

As soon as we opened the door of our 'Jewel on the Sea' we knew we were home and we had to make it happen. We didn't see this at the time (the view would have been enough), but right below our condo is where turtles feed. I have been told by guests who had previously lived in the islands that they have seen more turtles below our lanai during their stay than in all the years that they had lived in Hawaii.

We marry the luxury of upscale resorts with the comfort of a fine home. During a flight back to the mainland an idea came to us about how to increase the airflow. The positioning of our condo in the building was already ideal but now, after creating a 'breezeway,' the condo interior is like a cool wind tunnel and sometimes we need to turn the fans off at night in the summer. With the first cut into the wall we could feel the air getting pulled throughout the entire condo and unexpectedly, we created an ocean view in the bedroom. Next we installed the best fans on the market according to CNet, the 'Haiku,' American made by the Big Ass Fan Company (yes that is the name!!). These hanging sculptural fans circulate the cool ocean air, allowing us to feel comfortable while listening to the calming ocean lull. Just to make sure you are always comfortable, this last year we installed Air Conditioning so you will always be comfortable.Nothing gives us greater joy than to please our guests. The condo is filled with a love that is palpable from all of our guests who are celebrating their honeymoon, wedding on Kauai, birthday, anniversary, and the joy of taking a vacation on this most beautiful island; a place that we feel is the most beautiful in the world. From what we hear from cognitive science, experiences rather than things make us happy because they create lifetime memories,. We are passionate about creating a beautiful, comfortable home for you so that those experiences made here will stay with you always.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Molla,

We can not thank you enough for sharing your island home with us. We had a wonderful visit to Kaua'i! We would have been happy spending the entire trip sitting on the Lanai watching the waves, whales and the sea turtles. We did venture out to see a good bit of the island and are looking forward to future trips when we can see some more.

Your condo is lovely and very comfortable. The pride of ownership is apparent in all the beautiful natural materials you have used and they really enhance the experience there.

I am mailing the key back tomorrow morning.

We will definately refer your condo to our friends and family (my mother is all ready interested and talking to my dad) and hope to stay with you again when we are able to return. I can't imagine better accomodations anywhere.

Mahalo,

Susan Lucas

Molla and Kevin,

What a beautiful home you have! The view was amazing! For us visiting from Arizona - hearing the ocean day and night was heaven!

I couldn't wait to wake up every morning just to watch the sea turtles. They were magical.

It was definitely one of the best trips we have ever been on. We just loved every minute of it.

We would highly recommend your condo to anyone and everyone! It was so comfortable and inviting!

Thanks and hope we can make it back one day....

Beautiful Stay - Would Stay Again

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I had an amazing stay in Kauai at this rental. The owners had excellent communication - emailing everything we needed to know about the property before arriving. The condo was extremely close to the shore, had great parking, and was very clean. In the evenings, we loved to watch the sunset on the grass. During the day we would listen to the waves crash through the open porch door. I would not hesitate to stay again in the future. The location on the south shore is ideal for driving to the many attractions on the island!

Enjoyed our stay at Kuhio Shores.

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at Kuhio Shores. Condo is well-equipped, we were able to entertain 4 other guests for dinner, kitchen was well supplied. Nice view from lanai. Easy access to beaches, shopping & restaurants, within walking/biking distance. Nice to walk to Spouting Horn in the morning. Area very quiet at night. Very comfortable, even though we experienced the weekend when the north side (Hanalei) experienced their severe flooding, April 2018.

Comfortable Condo , Great Location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this condo for 4 nights, half of our stay on Kauai. It is very clean and comfortable . It is in a very convenient location in Poipu and the view is terrific.

The owner is very forthcoming with information about the condo and things to do while on Kauai. She responds quickly if there are any concerns. I would have liked to have stayed here longer!!!

Beautiful condo

We enjoyed our too brief stay at this condo. Great view off the lanai although we didn't see any turtles like everyone else. We had everything we needed. The owners are very communicative and care about their guests' experience.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your kind review. I am so sorry you didn't see the turtles because we see them just about everyday. You will just have to come back to see them. We would love to have you again but for longer next time.

Beautiful Kauai Condo

  • 5 of 5

We were so happy with our oceanfront condo. This third floor unit has beautiful views of the little bay and ocean and also lush garden and mountain views. There is beauty in every direction. The condo itself is very comfortable and nicely decorated, truly home away from home. The owners, Molla and Kevin were very responsive to a couple of calls and quickly resolved any concerns. Maintenance in the complex is very friendly and anxious to help with anything. Thanks to Albert for the help with the cable! We love Kauai and hope to return. We would definitely rebook this beautiful unit. Thank you Kevin and Molla for sharing your home in paradise with us!

The condo's beach is on Kauai's Gold Coast, a snorkeler's paradise. Our beach, "Lawal" or "Beach House Beach" on Poipu Beach, is rated the best snorkeling on the island by Sunset Magazine: Snorkel different times of the day to see different kinds of fish (650+ types in the islands). Watch endangered giant sea turtles from the lanai. In front of the lanai is a shore dive, and some of the best surfing is right out the door: PK’s, Centers, and Acid Drop. In the winter watch humpback whales. An endangered monk seal with her pup sun themselves on our beaches. Walking distance to restaurants, shops, markets, and galleries. We are next to the Beach House Restaurant, rated the best restaurant on Kauai 15+ years in a row. Across the street is a Hawaiian Heiau, sacred to Hawaiians with a historic fishpond. Markers lead us through the park with views out to the ocean. Our micro climate is a sunny, central coastal location: Sightsee, Hike, Bike, Sail, Boogie Board, visit the nationally acclaimed Tropical Botanical Gardens ( one mile, next to the blowhole 'Spouting Horn'), sea and river kayak (Kauai is the only Hawaiian island with navigable rivers), boat tours (catamarans leave from Port Allen to the awe-inspiring Na Pali Coast), Helicopter, movie site ATV, horseback riding, zip line, tubing, SUP, greatest array of public golf courses is on Kauai. From your door, take a walk along Poipu's dramatic coastline to the Kukuiula Harbor, passing a Tom Weiskopf designed golf course. Our location is designated nationally as one of the most scenic drives in America. The Holo Holo Byway slowly meanders through Poipu, beginning with the magical Tunnel of Trees, winding through historic Koloa Town, once a sugar mill. then makai (toward the ocean) to our condo, ending at Spouting Horn and the National Tropical Botanical Gardens, about a mile from your home away from home and where the road ends, limiting traffic. Because there are no roads cutting through the center of Kauai nor on the Nepali Coast, the south shore is centrally located for touring the entire island. Relaxing on the lanai or in reclining chairs in our 'Jewel on the Sea,' with its multi million dollar view of the ever changing sea and sky, and turtles feeding below would be enough. Take a walk through the sacred park, imagining what life used to be like while enjoying the fragrant scents of plumerias. Pick up a dropped mango to enjoy later. Walk to the shops at Kukuiula for a delicious meal, then stroll art galleries, the organic soap store (where we buy your bath soap), and peruse unique shops for home decor and clothing. Bring your bags for the Wed night farmer's culinary market where we buy home-grown exotic fruits and vegetables while listening to live soft Hawaiian music. Restaurants from afar bring their delicious dishes. Walk in another direction, passing our neighbor's gorgeous bonsai garden, down to the resorts on that golden crescent beach, stopping in for drinks or some soup before walking back. Get home before sunset to watch our new residents fly in to roost. I like to keep them a secret, but they are green and red and are adorable! Enjoy the sunset and watch the tiki torches being lit. Go back home and lay out under the stars on the lanai chaise lounges, close your eyes and listen to the constant ocean lull.
