Redfish Cottage at Hidden Treasures - Matlacha

Bedrooms 1
Space 700 sq. ft.
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Cottage, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

This rustic treasure of Old Florida will take you back to a simpler time when the gulf tide and the sound of fishermen hauling in the morning’s catch were the focal points of this coastal society. From the unique floor plan to the beautiful wood paneling, everything about this cottage is designed to give our guests a refreshing, relaxing and rejuvenating experience. The Redfish represents the truest roots of the Hidden Treasures of Matlacha.

The Redfish has a queen bedroom, a half bedroom with a modular full size bed, and a pull-out full size sleeper couch in the living room. A large HD TV in also in the living room. The cottage has a full kitchen with large refrigerator, gas stove, coffee maker, microwave, and all kitchen utensils. A full bathroom is in the cottage, plus there is an additional half bath right outside your door.

About Hidden Treasures: Hidden Treasures is a destination in itself. We have 3 cozy individual cottages intimately tucked away behind a gate off of Pine Island Road. Our tropical landscaping, docks for your boat, fishing, or kayak launch, and the wide open water as your backyard will make you feel like you are miles away from everything. We are right next to Bert's Bar and Grill and across the street from Island Seafood - two of the best places to eat in Matlacha, and they are right at your doorstep. Well behaved dogs are welcome to stay with you for an additional cleaning fee.

From Hidden Treasures, you can easily walk to most of Matlacha's art galleries and restaurants.

For larger parties: For larger parties you may want to also rent the Tarpon Cottage at Yellowdog - HomeAway #952204. This is a 2BR/1-1/2BA cottage right next door to the Redfish. We also have our studio Snook cottage on the property as well.

About Rachael Schaaf

We actively manage this gorgeous property and do whatever it takes to make sure our guests have a fantastic vacation!

Rachael Schaaf purchased this cottage in 2017

Why Rachael Schaaf chose Matlacha

There are no other properties in the area like ours. We have three cottages confined in a gated area, with kayaks and paddle boards, plenty of outdoor seating, boat slips, and views that will take your breath away. We love our four-legged guests, and with our gated confines, they are free to roam safely.

What makes this cottage unique

Matlacha has many waterfront rental properties, but we have yet to see one that is as clean and tastefully decorated as ours. If you care about that sort of thing, we're your best choice! We are constantly improving the property like it's our very own home.

Nice place . I really liked the pier and our neighbors allowed us to sit and enjoy the outside . Inside was nice and comfortable . Enjoyed our stay over all but thought the price was a little high was our only gripe .

The Yellow Dog cottages are absolutely perfect! My 2 brothers and I rented all three cottages for a family weekend getaway and had a awesome time. Once you walked through the gate, we were in your own slice of paradise. We used the common ground to sit out and listen to music from Bert's bar, fish and relax. We stayed in the Redfish cottage and it was decorated perfectly. Plenty of room for my wife and I and extremely clean. Would definitely stay here again and would consider bringing our golden retriever next time. All three cottages were clean and tastefully decorated. Restaurants were very close by and all were very good. Very neat place, must stay!

Not great for dogs and not worth the price!

  • 2 of 5

When I found this place online, I was SO excited. Unfortunately it did not live up to it's online appearance. I will start with the good things: the inside was decorated adorably, very clean, and I loved the setup. (All very important things!) The problem was that the one of the main reasons I chose this place was because they were dog friendly. I wish I had known that there would be virtually NO WHERE to walk them unless you crossed the very busy highway which the cottage is directly on. Even when you cross the street, it's less than ideal for anyone with dogs. We ended up actually putting the dogs in the car and driving them to a nearby neighborhood everytime they needed to be walked. We were also less than thrilled with the customer service. There was no one there to greet or help us upon our arrival and there was a lot of confusion about how to get in to the actual property. After about half an hour of phone calls and playing with locks, we got in. When we walked into our cottage (The Redfish) it was stifling hot. We were told that the a/c was supposed to be turned on the day, but the cleaning lady had forgotten. It took a little while to cool down, but once it did that aspect of the cottage was fine. They did end up getting the lock on the main gate working, but it was the most complicated lock I've ever used. (Not a standard padlock) And when you get back to your cottage and it's night time, there is not a single light to see your way. Without having someone shine my phone, it would have been impossible for me to get in, not to mention a little creepy because you can't see anything at all.

Main Points:

Good- very cute, clean, and has everything you need if you are staying out of town

Bad- Not great customer service, confusing entrance, no lights and a little creepy at night and MOST IMPORTANTLY: NOT GOOD FOR DOGS!

I only write this because I wish someone would have painted a true picture prior to me booking, especially since it was one of the most expensive places I found when looking. Hope this helps some other pet parents!

Owner's Response: This guest had some valid points and we were very apologetic for the issues she experienced. There was some miscommunication we had with getting our gate fixed; I didn't realize the lock itself was being changed until the guest had trouble. I felt very badly for that. It is fixed now and is a regular lock with a lock box. Regarding the dogs, we have our dogs there very frequently and never have any issues. We've had dozens of guests bring dogs and this is the first time we've gotten negative feedback. If you are unsure, just give us a call or email to ask questions before booking. Thanks!!

Slice of Paradise

Thanks for sharing your little slice of paradise with us. The Redfish is so adorable, exactly what an island cottage should look like. It doesn’t get any better than this!
