About this property

A cozy, romantic cabin perfect for couples. Pets are always welcome, owners too!

Welcome to the Mothership, an octagonal post and beam cottage built for those with a love of the outdoors. Located on our small farm in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, we are a perfect launching point for adventure. Lake James and the Linville Gorge are only 20 minutes away, Asheville 45 minutes, and Charlotte only an hour. Explore countless waterfalls, miles of trails, or kayak our beautiful rivers during the day, and relax in the hot tub and shoot pool in the evening.

The property
The Mothership is located on our 15 acre organic homestead. We raise sheep, goats, horses, blueberries, and mixed vegetables. Guests are welcome to meet the critters, pick berries in season, and help themselves to whatever is growing.

Guest access
There is a dedicated parking area for guests. Just come up Idle Acres drive and follow the driveway as it turns to gravel. The mothership will be on the left. If you arrive at night just follow the solar lights.

Other things to note
We encourage people to explore the farm, but please do not feed the animals without asking us first. Thanks!

Our area has incredible hiking opportunities like the Linville Gorge and the Mountains to Sea Trail. We have become bit of a Disc Golf mecca. There are 3 good courses within 15 minutes and a professional level course about 30 minutes away. We also have a very happening mountain bike scene with miles and miles of trails of all difficulty levels within 30 minutes. If you like to play outdoors, you'd be hard pressed to find a better location.

Perfect Escape

Cabin is so unique. Enjoyed playing pool, relaxing in the hot tub, and sitting around the fire pit. We appreciated the remote location and easy access to I-40.

Great Trip!

Wonderful place to stay! Very cozy, very clean! We loved the hot tub and the cabin was pretty and very peaceful. We came from Pennsylvania to make a stop in Marion and decided to make a vacation out of it. This was the perfect fit for us. We traveled to Asheville, the Linville Gorge, Lake James, the Catawba Falls.

I enjoy staying in different styled homes when traveling. This is by far the coolest, and my most favorite one! Had everything you need, from amenities, to little things like utensils. Awesome stay, quiet area, stars are beautiful when relaxing in the hot tub. Mr Burke also was quick and professional to respond to any messages or questions.

Quiet and Just right

We loved the quirky round shape of the “mothership”! Location was close to Marion and Morganton and close to 40. We enjoyed the hot tub and played some pool too! Bed was comfortable and we had everything we needed. Owner had very good communication with us. Description was accurate.

Best place we have stayed at. Very clean. So many extras made cooking while staying in easy. Beautifully made cabin. Huge hot tub with privacy. Plenty of outdoor seating and tables. Billard table a big plus. Comfortable bed. Stocked bathroom with shampoo, conditioners, soaps, shower gels, lotions etc. Deep claw foot tub with shower. Host Tim is the best, also his wife and mother. Plenty of nearby places to see, do things, great restaurants. Fire pit. Do yourself a favor and book a stay in the Mothership, we are planning to go back.
