About the property

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8-11)

The swing on the screened front porch is the place to enjoy the pelicans, dolphins, and beautiful Alabama sunsets. After one week experiencing this quiet haven, you will want to come back year after year. This peaceful spot offers calm waters for great water skiing yet lives up to its 'Breezy Point' name, providing light winds for your afternoon sail in Perdido Bay.

Secluded, yet just minutes away from Tanger Outlet Mall and all the sights and restaurants at Gulf Shores and Perdido Key, this is the perfect retreat location. Gentle waves lap over this sandy beach with no undertow to endanger your children; yet deep water is nearby for divers and more advanced swimmers, and for your boating needs. The lot includes a boat ramp.

Our vintage house is cozy and comfortable with with spacious rooms and inviting decor. Recently updated, it provides all the convenience you will need to enjoy a relaxing vacation...updated appliances, tile countertops, hardwood floors, a large pantry, and laundry area. We love your fur babies and they are welcome with a fee...(2 dogs max, and no cats, please) We do ask that they sleep in their own beds on the floor. Outside fenced area works well for smaller dogs...

You can fish and crab right off your private dock....your very own 'On Golden Pond'....just waiting for you!

About JulieJoyner

I am a mother of five, married 35 years. I love to travel, but of all the places I have been all over the world, the place I love the most is this quiet spot in Perdido Beach Alabama. I love remembering all the wonderful times that I have spent here with family and friends ...the waterskiing and the sailing with my dad, the nightly singing on the front porch and the feasts around my great grandmother's big mahoghany table, late night discussions of life's important questions on the dock, counting falling stars, skinny dipping and sunbathing with sisters and friends, building 'turtle houses' on the beach as a kid and sandcastles with my own children, repeatedly counting cousins in the water, watching lightning storms across the bay, afternoon naps on my mother's porch swing, 'junking' at nearby shops with my sisters, walking to the old post office to retrieve the mail from box 19, and penny candy from the general store,

boat parades on July 4.....54 years of kicking up the same sand down the same driveway, enjoying stunning Alabama sunsets and beautiful azaleas and hydrangeas planted by my grandmother, chasing visiting dolphins in the boat, enjoying a book on the deck...countless memorable hours at Perdido Beach with my children, my family, and my friends have made my life exceedingly rich. Blessed as I am, I couldn't figure out how to make my picture with my 84 year old Dad vertical....(thank you to the VRBO team who fixed that!)....he's a treasure, and you might be lucky enough to meet him, if you rent this wonderful property....

JulieJoyner purchased this cottage in 1970

Why JulieJoyner chose Elberta

My father vacationed with his parents in the area when he was a boy. His parents bought land and build a home adjacent to this land before I was born. I was raised spending my summers here. My sisters and I inherited this vacation home from my mother after she died.

What makes this cottage unique

The location is ideal because although it is secluded, it is also convenient to shopping, restaurants, movies, and really anything that might be needed. Both Pensacola and Mobile are within reach.

The Gulf of Mexico is just 25 minutes by car and 10 minutes by boat. The brackish water offers the benefits of a lake, warm but not too hot...salty, but not too salty. The sandy bottom is comfortable; water shoes are not even necessary. You are near civilization but it is quiet and peaceful. There's some boating activity, especially on weekends, but not too much...Just the right blend for a perfect retreat...

Guestbook comments from the owner

I wanted to Thank you for letting my husband and son enjoy your secret hideaway in Alabama. During our breaks from baseball we enjoyed boating in the bay and watching the dolphins. My son Travis invited a friend over to ride on the tube in the bay and they had the best time ever. I was watching from the porch and could hear them laughing from the water. Nothing is better than a child’s laughter. We will be seeing you again .

Simply paradise! Charming is an understatement

  • 5 of 5

I almost scared to write this review. I can honestly say after over 20 years of spring and summer beach trips to the Alabama and Florida gulf coast this is by far our favorite place we have stayed. This place has it all. It is extremely quite and peaceful. Views of the bay are stunning. The back porch is heaven on earth. This little cottage is adorable and has everything you could possibly need for your stay. We docked our boat by the pier and went everywhere by boat. Restaurants and fuel anything you need is all accessible by boat. We tubed in Palmetto creek we enjoyed the bay and the beach out near the gulf. Hospitality was wonderful such a great stay. We will be back for years to come. Thank you Ms. Julie for sharing your amazing property. Also our little fur friends 🐶 had a great time 😊

A wonderful, comfortable holiday home with beautiful Views,

  • 5 of 5

We had a delightful stay on Perdido Creek. Loved the house with its quaint memorabilia, furniture and pictures, fantastic location with interesting wildlife. Our grandchildren loved swimming, jumping off the piers, using the kayak, it was a wonderful few days. We were made very welcome by our neighbours and had such a relaxing time. Thank you.

Mediocre

  • 3 of 5

House served its purpose, was not nearly what I was anticipating based on the high reviews. I was disappointed in the cleanliness of the whole house, I understand it’s an old house but a good cleaning and new paint would do wonders. While the kitchen was full of pots/ pans and utensils I was a bit let down by the condition of many pieces. The beach and pier were nice, we did see dolphins each evening and the sunsets were beautiful.

Perfect for families!

  • 5 of 5

My best friend and I met up at this house with our families for a week’s vacation! We absolutely love the character of the old house! It’s quiet and off the main road, but still only 25-30 minutes from multiple beaches. We had 6 kids 7 and under between us and it was perfect! We drove to one of the many state park beaches in the mornings and then enjoyed the large backyard for football and swimming off the dock in the evenings. We loved watching the dolphins in the creek and seeing the fish jump. The sunsets were unbelievable! The large table was perfect to have a spot for everyone to sit and my favorite part was the screened in porch to be able to still enjoy the outside when the gnats got too annoying in the evenings. We are definitely looking at making this a yearly tradition and this is the perfect house for it!

Peaceful and charming

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The home was perfect for the 5 of us (3 adults and 2 children). We absolutely loved being on the bay. It was very peaceful, and we loved playing in the water and watching the dolphins. It was a little far out from a lot of restaurants and grocery stores, so get what you need while you are out. If you plan to cook, there are plenty of dishes and cookware, but only salt and pepper so bring your spices. There are family members of the property owners next door, and they were very friendly and helpful. I read a previous review that there was an issue with roaches, but we saw absolutely no bugs in the house. If there had been a problem, they took care of it. We would definitely stay here again! Thank you, Becky and Forest, for your hospitality! And thank you, Julie, for answering all of our questions!
