About The Owner

Sandy and I moved here 34 years ago from the Bay Area because of our love of backpacking. No Regrets! We raised our family here. Both Sandy and I are retired teachers. Sandy elem. school and me, high school. We love outdoor activities as well as jewelry making, playing piano, gardening, knitting, swimming, exercising, hiking, wood working and sailing.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 1977

Why The Owner chose Shasta Cascade

The garden loft is a great get-a-way from the hustle and bustle of one's home. Guests have called our garden loft serene with a special feeling of calmness. One is in the forest yet only a short hike to the downtown area.

What makes this cottage unique

Our visitors will enjoy the privacy and solitude as well as the close proximity to town, skiing, and many other outdoor activities that Mt. Shasta is known for. Park in the carport that is steps from the front door of the loft. Enjoy the 1 acre of flowers during the Spring, Summer and Fall. How about a two person shower with two shower heads!! Total relaxation awaits you here.

A perfect spot for a mountain visit

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I recently spent 2 relaxing nights at the Garden Loft. Our accommodations couldn't have been any nicer. Clean, bright and tastefully decorated with room to spare. So much better than any hotel room. John and Sandy are friendly hosts and were very helpful with ideas on places to visit during our stay...we especially liked that the hosts had placed binders in the apartment with loads of information on everything you would want to know about the area....which we definitely took advantage of. We felt like we were invited guests! The location of the apt was nestled in a wooded area overlooking Mt.Shasta and John's beautiful gardens...we do wish we had more time to spend there.

For anyone looking for a great accommodations, I would highly

recommend "The Garden Loft". John and Sandy were so thoughtful that they left a bottle of wine in the refrigerator to help us celebrate our anniversary!

A great get away in the mountains!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at the garden loft. It was very comfortable for my husband, our two school aged children, and me. We used it as our base as we explored the area: lakes, hiking, waterfalls, snow up on Mt. Shasta in June!, and the headlands of the Sacramento River. John is a very warm and friendly man, and he gave us excellent suggestions for activities. We highly recommend staying here for the comfort level and the easy access to so many beautiful places in the area.

Beautiful and comfy loft, lovely gardens, peaceful location, superb hosts

  • 5 of 5

We were so pleased with our choice for 2 nights in Mt. Shasta. John and Sandy are probably the best hosts I've ever encountered in decades of travel. The love put into their extensive gardens shines through with blooms everywhere. Everything you need for a comfortable stay, and a very quiet location backing onto woods abundant with birds and nature all around, plus views of Mt. Shasta. THANK YOU!! P.S. The bulbs made it home ;-) THANKS>>>>>

Wanted to stay forever!

  • 5 of 5

My sister and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this wonderful place. The loft was spacious, light-filled, beautifully decorated, immaculate, and the kitchen was well-appointed. The gardens were gorgeous (and very inspiring, as my husband and I are newly retired and are starting to develop our own gardens). The owners were friendly and available, but not at all intrusive. I hope to be able to come back often!

Picture Perfect

  • 5 of 5

Every so often you come across people or places you know will stay in your hearts forever. Our stay at the Garden Loft gave us both people and a place of that caliber. The loft is absolutely perfect. We were "at home" as soon as we arrived. Everything we needed was provided, including a lovely bottle of wine in celebration of my husband's birthday. The kitchen is complete and there is even some room left over to store food items, the linens are scrumptious, everything is immaculate, the t.v./vcr are very user friendly and there are binders full of all sorts of information. Because of the way the bed faces, we woke up each morning looking at tall pines. The other windows have glorious views of either the lush garden and/or Mount Shasta. And then we started to notice all the detail that has been built into the loft, things that maximize the space or simply add class and interest. And we can't forget Sandy and John Hansen, our hosts. Amazingly hospitable and friendly people. It all blended into a wonder-filled adventure we will never forget and hope to repeat often.

Very cozy, comfortable and clean.

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the garden loft was everything we were looking for and more... The loft is very comfortable, warm and cozy. The kitchen is very well stocked with every thing one needs. The couch and arm chair are very comfy in the sitting area. It's private, quiet and detached from the main house with its own separate carport. We really enjoyed our stay... one of the best vrbo places we have rented. Thank you John and Sue for your warm, kind hospitality.

Sandy and I propagate Shasta Lilies and we probably have the largest concentration (no. per acre) of Shasta Lilies in California and Oregon. When they bloom the fragrance rivals any flower from Hawaii. One bloom in a room will permeate an entire home.
