Welcome to Paws and Linger Retreat, a unique sanctuary nestled on the serene banks of the Ellijay River. Just five minutes from Downtown Ellijay, yet secluded enough to feel like a world away, this retreat offers the perfect blend of convenience and tranquility. Whether you’re a couple seeking a romantic getaway, a solo traveler in need of a peaceful escape, a group of friends looking to unwind over a spa weekend at local vineyard, or a remote worker craving a change of scenery, Paws and Linger Retreat is your destination of choice!
Our river front dog-friendly property, is a haven for both you and your furry family members. With a fully fenced yard, except river front, elevated dog beds, crates, drinking stations, doggy pool and life jackets, your dogs will feel right at home. You’ll find thoughtful touches throughout, from furniture covers, dog towels and a treat jar in the kitchen to a well-stocked first aid kit, toys and bowls for your dogs. We are on a private well, no need to buy bottled water. The water is tested regularly and tastes wonderful.
We never charge a dog fee, because we believe your dogs are family and should be treated as such!
Inside, the main bedroom features a king-size bed with silky linens, a plush comforter, white noise machine and blackout curtains for the ultimate in relaxation. The adjacent office space is perfect for remote work, complete with a height-adjustable desk, computer display, and printer. The full bathroom offers a spa-like experience with a steam shower, LED mood lights, and Bluetooth radio.
The open-concept living area includes leather recliners, a 65" ROKU TV with complimentary YouTubeTV and Sony soundbar, and a cozy original “Fisher” wood-burning fireplace. The fully equipped kitchen boasts all-new LG Smart appliances, a selection of cold beverages in the fridge, a well stocked pantry, coffee and tea station, and even a bar for mixing up your favorite drinks. Step outside to enjoy the river view from the back deck, you are literally right above the water! or unwind in the basement’s wellness area, featuring a yoga space, weights, workout bench, infrared sauna with bluetooth, LED lights, and zero gravity chairs.

A rare gem that lets the whole family - pups included :) - truly relax together. The property is clean, thoughtfully stocked, and full of little touches that show real care for dog owners. The Ellijay and Blue Ridge areas offer plenty of beautiful trails and wineries, many of which are both dog- and kid-friendly. Highly recommended for a comfortable, family-friendly getaway.

Very nice well maintained property. Completely equipped for guests, unlike so many other places where you immediately have to go to the store to get supplies. Everything you need to be comfortable is on hand. Dogs loved it and had a ball. I would give this property a 10 of 10 on any survey. Host communication was excellent.

Paws and Linger Retreat is an ideal private family retreat perfectly designed and equipped for hosting dogs and their owners. Everything you might need and more is provided, and Andrea is receptive and responsive to questions. The décor is cozy comfortable with modern conveniences including a steam shower and a sauna, and the river offers relaxing ambience. For the excursion-minded, quaint Ellijay and many popular mountain recreational amenities and dog-friendly eateries are just minutes away. We and our fur baby had a great time, and we highly recommend Paws and Linger Retreat.

Perfect dog friendly getaway by the river!

We had an amazing stay at this dog-friendly cabin! The location by the river was absolutely stunning, and the peaceful, private setting made it the perfect retreat. The host thought of everything—every detail was carefully considered, from the well-stocked amenities to the thoughtful touches that made our stay so comfortable. Communication was excellent, and the host was incredibly easy to work with. It’s clear they take great pride in ensuring guests have a top-notch experience. Highly recommend this gem for anyone looking for a relaxing getaway with their furry friends!

We had such a relaxing and peaceful stay at the cabin. Our 10 month old Aussie, Miss Momo, had a blast playing with all of the toys, running in the yard, and resting in the window sill overlooking the river. The infrared sauna and steam shower were both awesome! Andrea thought of everything we could need for ourselves or doggies. Nice selection of teas and coffees in the mornings, plenty of different size dog bowls, lots of pet blankets to protect the furniture. When we first arrived, we noticed the main floor windows didn’t have curtains (other than in the main bedroom), which as city dwellers, was a bit of a surprise. However, we quickly got over it, and never felt uncomfortable throughout our stay. You will very rarely see neighbors, and I never saw anyone else at nighttime! The cabin was easy to locate, and much easier to get to from the main road than other cabins we’ve stayed in in the area. It was also super clean, which we always appreciate. We will definitely be back! Thank you Andrea!!

Thoughtfully created haven for fur babies and their owners

My husband, sister, brother in law, and our two dogs wanted to escape Tampa for NYE since our pups are terrified of fireworks. And boy did we find the perfect getaway!! We Arrived to find an enormous fenced yard, festive Christmas decorations, and a welcoming bottle of bubbly. As much as we enjoyed downtown Elijay, we found ourselves mostly wanting to spend time in the spacious yet cozy cabin. We cooked many meals utilizing the most well equipped kitchen I’ve ever seen in a rental. We all enjoyed a “stay at home” spa day with massages(massage therapist recommended by the host), steam shower, and infrared sauna. We found it so relaxing and quiet with only the sound of the river flowing. The yard was safe and the fence was not an issue for our 20lb Yorkiepoo. The dogs had an absolute blast running free. Andrea was very helpful and responsive and she thought of every detail to make this place an absolute gem. Paws and Linger is a haven to which we hope to return again and again.

Great getaway

We reside in south Florida and was just looking for a weekend getaway to let the pups get a break from the heat. Andrea’s property popped up and checked all the boxes. Packed minimally and hit the road. From the moment we opened the truck doors and the dogs took off in her Fully gated property and we heard the waters rushing in the background we knew we would love this weekend. Beautifully remodeled house setup for Doggo heaven. Spent time on multi level outdoor space while the dogs ran/swam until they didn’t have any energy left. Then when inside she had every toy imaginable for them so the play time never stopped. Andrea was quick to respond to any inquiries we had. Very pleasant. 10 minutes from town to grab a bite. Also went hiking a few days. 20 minutes to blue ridge lake and Amicalola Falls. Both amazing and worth the trip. Her property is centrally located. We will be back. Thanks again

Too little time to "Paws and Linger"

What an incredible experience! Anyone reading this can probably relate but we LOVE our pups, they are our heart and soul, second only to our own children and grandchildren who all have lives of their own. We set out to find a place for our pups to run and let loose as they are two large dogs, one over 70 lbs, the other over 65 lbs. This was the place. Shaded, wooded, secluded, yet a short drive from town. Beautiful river cascading by partially over rock, yet with a deep pool directly behind the house. Certainly, swimmable for a folks a bit younger and surer footed. The house was nothing short of spectacular, and the care and touches inside and amenities provided could only be done by a lover of dogs themselves. It lacked for nothing, and I mean nothing. Bring a toothbrush and a change of undies and you're in. Steam shower and comfortable furnishings on the main floor, with a beautiful deck overlooking said river (ate breakfast out there more than once, with fresh eggs from the neighbor down the street selling them). Very nice BBQ ready for steaks or chicken or ??. Sauna and exercise equipment on the bottom floor, and beautifully laid out loft as another bedroom living area above the main floor. Everything TOP NOTCH. I cannot tell you enough about what a wonderful experience this made. The host Andrea was pronominal to deal with. Answered every text, every question, very gracious. As I stated in the title, and a mistake I won't make again... we had only 5 days. Too little time!

After having successfully launched Shepherds Lounge, Shepherds Run and Cozy Escape cabin, followed by Paws and Linger Retreat, this is just another property that caters to our best friends aka doggies aka furbabies - at the same time providing a quality stay for their humans! Shepherds Lounge is currently closed, but we will open a new location in Spring of 2026. I am originally from Austria, a veteran of the service industry and I love my dogs - always take them with me when going places. The amount of items I had to pack just for the dogs was overwhelming. On top of that, sleeping arrangements in many locations are mediocre, leading to sleepless nights or sore backs. After hours on the road, you find empty cabinets, not even a speck of salt, an empty fridge, no shampoo in the bathroom, no laundry detergent, not even a bottle of water. I decided to do better, compiled a list of all the things I would like to find upon arrival and started a business. I am looking forward to hearing about your experience and suggestions!

I love dogs! Dogs are family. For me the true definition of dog friendly is not charging a fee, your dogs stay for FREE! I like to think that makes a property a REAL "DOG FRIENDLY" place. This and a fenced yard to roam around and have fun. Check out my other properties "Shepherds Run" and "Cozy Escape cabin" located in Ellijay! Just grab your dog(s), their food and any special items they may need. Vineyards are all dog friendly with one exception. So are most of the local hangout places. Did I say I LOVE DOGS? Let me know anytime what I can do to make your and your furbabies stay even better! Thank you and enjoy your vacation!

From mattresses, to the pillows, to the linens and blankets, we strive to give our guests a quality sleeping experience. Laundry is special treated and all fabrics, towels, linens, blankets, etc...are lint rolled. Good sleep is important, it leaves you recharged and refreshed to enjoy a good meal fresh of the grill and quality time with family, friends and your beloved dog(s). Elevated dog beds are provided, so are indoor beds and crate(s) as needed. Poop bag station with trash can, doggy pool, toys, first aid kit, etc... Kitchen is fully equipped to create a fantastic meal. Enjoy relaxing in the sauna or steam shower, stretch after a yoga session or a round of weight lifting, or stay in and chill out in front of the wood burning stove, sit outside on the back deck and listen to nature, the waterfall and animals sounds. Anything we can do to improve, please let us know.
