About Dan & Donna Purnell

Chimacum Ridge Lodge is the fulfillment of a Legacy that began in the early 1930’s in the fertile Chimacum Valley. The owners live on the 15 wooded acres located on Chimacum Ridge that was purchased for $200 in 1941 by the owners father. The dream was fulfilled in 2007 with the construction of Chimacum Ridge Lodge by his third son, Daniel. His father had successfully farmed the fertile valley, as well as leasing Protection Island, where he grew wheat and raised beef cattle barraged to the island from Cape George.

Dan & Donna Purnell purchased this lodge in 2007

Why Dan & Donna Purnell chose Washington State

The Lodge is secluded on 15 acreas of wooded land which offers guests to experience the sights and sounds of nature. Sitting on the expansive covered deck, you can take in the sights and sounds of your retreat with the splendor of sunsets over the Olympic Mountains. Watch hummingbirds compete for nectar in their favorite feeders or flowers, listen for eagles calling as they soar over the valley, and be thrilled as huge Trumpeter swans return to the marshes below in the valley, during the fall. Resident ducks and geese provide extra background sounds.

What makes this lodge unique

Your retreat is part of the fertile Chimacum valley and farming area. You can visit the producers in the valley to get first hand information about producing organically grown crops and grass fed beef – and all is available for your purchase. More Than a Place to Stay

  • 5 of 5

Quiet, secluded, hideaway and an exquisite view of the Olympic Mountains was just the beginning. From the moment we walked in I knew it was more than a place to stay. It was not really a "lodge" as much as it was a "home." If lodging could be food, this was roast beef, mashed potatoes, and gravy for it provided all of our comfort needs. I can truly say that when it was time to leave, I really didn't want to go. A wonderful setting, a relaxing interior, and quintessential northwest qualities. It was all good.

Private Lodge

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I have just completed a wonderful one month stay at the Chimacum Ridge Lodge. Originally we wanted to stay right in Port Townsend but after reviewing properties in town and the outlying areas we decided that the Lodge had so much more to offer and it was just a 15 minute drive to all the amenities of Port Townsend. At first we thought, why do they call it a lodge? Well, upon arrival you discover it truly does feel like your own private lodge and with a terrific view of the mountains too. Everything about it is first rate. High quality construction, linens, mattress, electronics, gardens, bird life, a great trail right at your backdoor and a nice deck for reading and relaxing or to BBQ. The lodge is well equipped and the owners, who live nearby, give you complete privacy but treat you like family. You're welcomed with a frig stocked with essentials plus pastries, fresh fruit and flowers. We feel very fortunate to have discovered this place. We had great access to all of attractions of the northern and eastern Olympic Peninsula and perfect weather for the month of August. We're very thankful and appreciate the value of the Lodge.

Quiet, relaxing getaway

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Lodge for our anniversary, and left so relaxed and rejuvenated. Our hosts were SO hospitable - they thought of everything when equipping the Lodge, left us a note and plenty of food (including coffee and fresh cream!), and we're very welcoming and accommodating. We enjoyed the easy access to Port Townsend, but also spent mornings and afternoons sitting on the deck, admiring the peaceful, incredible views and sounds of nature. We highly recommend the Chimacum Ridge Lodge and can't wait to visit again.

Cross country retirement trip

  • 5 of 5

Chimacum Ridge Lodge was WONDERFUL! When we arrived, fresh flowers along with some nice baked goodies and fruit for breakfasts were there. The lodge is very comfortable, clean, and relaxing. Having the laundry facilities was great for us. The grounds around the lodge were lovely with flowers and trees. We traveled to the Olympic area a few days and toured Port Townsend, Port Gamble and other local areas.

Our hosts were always helpful with information on places to see and were very nice. I would highly recommend this lodge to anyone looking for a very relaxing place to stay.
