Mountaintop Getaway with Sunset Views

Located in scenic Avery County, secluded yet close to town, Alpenhaus is located at over 4000 ft. The house features 2 enclosed decks and is surrounded by woods on 3 sides. Wake up to green trees outside your bedroom window or watch the sunrise reflected on the mountains. Look out for foxes as you enjoy breakfast on the south facing deck. In autumn, watch the leaves change from green to hues of red and gold. Enjoy a game of golf at Mountain Glen Golf Club or take a short drive to Grandfather Mountain or Linville Falls, drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway or go hiking or rafting, see the stalagtites at Linville Caverns and then come back to appreciate the sunset from the living room window. In winter, enjoy a day of skiing or sledding at nearby Beech Mountain or Sugar Mountain. Jonas Ridge Snow Tubing is also nearby. Return home, build a snowman and enjoy the gas log fireplace which takes the mountain chill off the evenings. Experience our fully appointed kitchen if you choose to eat in or venture out to local restaurants in nearby Linville, Banner Elk, Boone, or even Asheville. Enjoy the Wooly Worm Festival, Valle Crucis Fair, Music on the Mountaintop, Land of OZ, Singing on the Mountain, Highland Games, Shag at Sugar, Oktoberfest at Sugar Mt., Arts and Crafts shows, and much more. Awesome place and great hosts! The house is quite rustic, but charming. Its round shape adds to the charm. Everything was as described in the listing. You get the second floor of the house, but the first floor is unoccupied, so it's basically the whole place for yourselves.We got visited by a bear on the last night of our stay, who unscrewed the garbage bin. So, don't be surprised to find out you're in the wild mountains.

Beautiful home and great location! My son and I had a terrific stay and will definitely be back in the next year. The sun room gives you 360 views of the forest with mountains in the background. I could have spent all day sitting out there.

We loved the quiet serenity of waking up to mountain laurel and leaves blowing in the breeze while butterflies fluttered in the morning light. Evenings are when this place really shines, with the setting sun falling behind a beautiful mountain view during sunset. We spent most of our time on an enclosed porch, watching the clouds move across the sky as they shadowed one mountain and then another, while reading and painting. It's a wonderful place to find your center and relax. We also enjoyed cooking and had literally everything we needed to prepare a meal, plus some needed spices. They had soaps, shampoos, detergent, etc. Everything was clean and well placed.Our dogs loved the special eating area for them with a cute dog mat and bowls that they found themselves. It was adorable. It's a nice place to take dogs

A challenge to navigate onto the driveway initially, but once we figured "how," it became a piece of cake. Once we made our 13-step ascent with luggage into this house-in-the-round: Wow, we knew we were in for a special treat: a beautiful sunset view from a lofty 3,900' elevation (300' higher than downtown Newland) with the backside nestled into the woods. The amenities were way above what we expected throughout : living room, kitchen, two bedrooms and enclosed porch were spotless. The master bedroom has an excellent King-sized mattress. Bathroom towels were of high quality. Owners Deb & Scott were prompt and hellpful throughout. We were in Newland for a wedding at Appalachian View, ten minutes away from this VRBO. Highly recommend this VRBO and Appalachian View as a wedding venue with its huge, beautiful, well-maintained landscaping. The extensive Dahlia beds were at peak bloom. 5 star all the way. First, the host was amazing, super fast to answer any questions and provide all information! The house was perfect!!!! Super clean and more than enough space for myself, hubby and boys! The fireplace worked great! The views are pretty much 360, with a great view of the sunset! The proximity to all of the hikes and activities was great! We even got to see a deer outside the window of the house our first night there! We loved it!!! Totally recommend!!!

This was my second stay here. Nice location high on a hill above the town of Newland. Unit was clean and internet worked well for business use while there. Nights are quite, with faint sounds of the town if your outside. Enjoyed the stay.

The Blue Ridge Mountains are a magical place to live. This house is right in the woods and has many windows so you seem to be outside even when you are in. There are many different birds, and a family of foxes. The cool evening mountain air is just the thing after a warm summer day.

What makes this property unique

After a day of shopping, hiking, walking, or sightseeing, this is a cozy and comfortable home to return to. It is near the Blue Ridge Parkway, Grandfather Mountain, Linville Falls & Linville Caverns. Avery County is centrally located so you can be in Blowing Rock or Boone in 30 miniutes or less or venture further to Black Mountain or Asheville.
