Gather your loved ones for the ultimate escape to Durango when you book this 2-bedroom, 1-bathroom vacation rental house that comfortably sleeps 4. Master Bedroom: Queen Bed | Bedroom 2: Queen Bed
Nestled in a canopy of cottonwoods, elms, and an old weeping willow, this 79-year-old farmhouse guarantees a peaceful retreat. Away from the bustling noise of city life, the farmhouse is completely surrounded by the Southern Ute Indian reservation, preventing development for miles in the piñon and juniper forests, which provide a safe habitat for deer, elk, raccoons, and an abundance of other wild creatures.
The moment you arrive at the serene, pastoral property, your soul will feel calmed by the peaceful atmosphere of the natural surroundings. Peering out through the beautiful trees from the home’s front porch, you’ll enjoy the rural view of farm animals, neighbors across the way irrigating or working on their tractors, and wild turkey, sauntering by, with glimpses of ravens, red-tail hawks, Blue Heron and Merlin falcons visiting the area. Up the valley, you can even see the majestic San Juan mountains. Seeing the red house with blue shutters against the country backdrop of pure, rustic nature, you’ll immediately feel at home.
Boasting 900 square feet of delicately appointed living space, this fantastic farmhouse is naturally cooled and shaded by the tall trees, making the interior and surrounding exterior of the home about 10 degrees cooler than if you were out in the open. Inside, the open living area features cozy couches, calm, teal-colored walls, and homey decor, inviting you to sit back and relax.
From the living area, you can peer through the open floor plan into the colorful, fully equipped kitchen that flows right into the dining area, where you’ll be able to enjoy tasty home-cooked meals at the splendid dining table. Next to the dining table is another relaxation area, where you can lounge on the beautifully upholstered chair while reading a book as the sun shines through the windows to illuminate the room.
While you’re at the back of the house, step right out the door and onto the back patio area, where you’ll look forward to sipping your morning coffee or enjoying a nice breakfast around the charming patio table. For another dining option in the fresh air, walk out to the screened gazebo area to to wine and dine around the lovely table while gazing out on the pastoral scenery and searching for wild turkeys traversing the farm.
When you’re ready to call it a day and hit the hay, you’ll be happy to head back inside, retreating to one of the two bedrooms, both tastefully-decorated and featuring Queen-sized Beds with homey, colorful comforters. While both rooms also feature windows that illuminate the spaces, the Master Bedroom has a large window with a lovely seat ledge, encouraging you to sit beside the window reading a book as the sun acts as your natural reading light. Just as the rooms provide enough space for you to relax and drift off to sleep, the bathroom provides enough counter space for two to get ready in the mornings, while the shower and bathtub combo offers plenty of room to rinse off after a day full of outdoor activities. With such a charming farmhouse in a beautiful area, you’ll quickly be calling this wonderful place your home-away-from-home.
Early risers will love waking up to sip a freshly-brewed cup of coffee on the back patio or front porch, overlooking the pastoral scenery. After enjoying a delicious breakfast gathered around the outdoor patio set, you’ll be ready to start your adventures for the day. From backpacking and fly fishing, to shopping downtown and hiking the many trails around the area, you’ll find plenty of outdoor activities to do right outside your door!
Once you’ve gotten your fill of exploration, you’ll appreciate having a cozy farmhouse awaiting your return. After showering off and freshening up in the clean bathroom, prepare a home-cooked meal in the fully equipped kitchen and choose to serve it inside at the dining table, outside on the patio, or outside around the table of the screened gazebo. End the night by gathering the group outside to stargaze before retreating to your beds to rest up for the next day’s exciting events.
With such a fantastic piece of land to explore, it’s hard to believe that there is even more to do beyond the property! This ideally-located home makes it easy to venture out to take part in all of the outdoor activities, like fly-fishing, hiking, mountain biking, kayaking on the Animas River, and four-wheel driving the remote mountain passes.
Take the beautiful 20 minute drive along the Animas River to the town of Durango, where there are many attractions, including whitewater rafting, the famous Durango/Silverton steam-driven narrow gauge train, old-time entertainment like the Bar-D Wranglers, and an eclectic choice of fine restaurants.
For day trips, make the hour-drive to the Quality Waters of the San Juan to fly-fish, or head over to Chaco Canyon and Mesa Verde, Canyon of the Ancients for educational visits.
