This is a solar powered 3 bedroom house in Kawaihae located a scenic 30 minute drive to the north of the Kona Airport. Unlike many Hawaiian rental properties, this home is very conveniently located to area roadways which reduces commuting time to nearby towns and areas of interest. The home offers beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean and Kohala Coastline from the back yard. Visitors enjoy the beautiful and ancient terrain of the most desirable side of the Big Island, where the weather is almost always sunny and temperatures normally range between 80 to 68 deg F every day.
The home is located in a historic area, within a short 5 to 10 minute drive of the worlds best beaches at Mauna Kea and Hapuna Beach. Buy fresh fish and vegetables in Kawaihae and enjoy grilling your food as the gentle tradewinds blow through the coconut palms and tropical plants on the property. During the winter months whales make this their first destination, and can be seen breaching and surfacing from the beautiful blue waters.
The bedrooms include one California King with memory foam gel topper, one King with new memory foam mattress, and one Queen with memory foam gel topper. There is one bathroom with full tub and shower. The kitchen is fully equipped. Free Wireless internet and cable TV. There are 3 TVs in the home.
This is the perfect destination to enjoy what the Big Island has to offer, while at the same time avoiding the very expensive rates typical of area hotels.
Aloha, The Big Island is now our favorite Hawaiian island. This was a wonderful house rental for my husband and 2 teenagers. We were met at the rental in case we had any questions and just introduced to what is there. There is so much to do around this area, and so nice to come home to a quiet and friendly neighborhood in the evening to grill on the lanai and relax. Many incredible beaches are just minutes away, Waimea just up the road for groceries, an easy drive up the coast to Havi, and just a 45 minute drive to Kona. A first class restaurant, the Blue Dragon is just minutes away, as well as several shops, cafe's and the Mac Nut factory. The house is decorated so personally, with many original pieces that give it great character, the rooms are more beautiful than the pictures can capture. The full kitchen has all the amenities and is easy to prepare meals, and they have all the extras like a crock pot and rice cooker. The AC keeps it cool, or you can just leave the lanai door open with the screen closed for fresh Hawaiian air. Plenty of really good quality towels and the beds are so comfortable. A special treat was picking a fresh lemon from the tree, never have I tasted a lemon this good, actually sweet. A garden full of Aloe Vera, and other great decorations in the yard. The home is very roomy, and also has comfortable lanai furniture. We would definitely be honored if we were able to stay here again. Mahalo.
We loved coming to the Big Island during this quiet time of year, before the holiday rush. This home was a very pleasant surprise. Besides being clean and welcoming, the internet was fast and free, with good wi-fi connection.
A typical morning found us all at the very close beaches, and then back home to eat and relax. Our teenage kids were on their "devices" in the house (good air conditioning throughout), while my wife and I drank Kona coffee on the plush rockers outside. The view of the ocean was very calming, and we grilled out for almost every dinner. The picnic table also looks toward the ocean, and it was a great time to eat together and watch the sunset.
Compared to our last vacation with two hotel rooms, this house was a tremendous bargain. We were so glad we chose a home with a kitchen and the ability to do laundry. The home also has board games, which was sweet fun on the one evening it rained.
My advice is before you stay in Kawaihae, study the guide books because, because there is a ton of history, and things to see and do very close by. If you drive up toward Hawi, you are in a different world, and a drive to see Kilauea is a trip into pre-history.
In summary, I highly recommend this fun beach house (and 5 star property manager, Mary!). Thank you to the owner for the special touches like bluetooth speakers and TV in every bedroom. We will be back in 2016!
