About Melinda Clark
We moved to the Hawaiian village of Kalapana located on the SE corner of the Big Island in 1981 to escape the freeways of So. California. We were blessed to live, surf and paddle canoe here for 8 years before Madame Pele covered this community with lava in the late 80's & early 90's. We lost our home to the lava but our orchid farm,'Kalapana Tropicals' that we started in 1987 remains in tact and is now just one of 2 orchid nurseries that we own and operate...the other being in Kurtistown where we have lived since 1990. Free orchid farm tours for our guests!

Why Melinda Clark chose Volcano
We love the Volcano area for it's cool weather, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, and hiking and cycling opportunities. It's a quick get-a-way for us as it is only 20 minutes from our home in Kurtistown and we feel like we are in another world!
What makes this Cabin unique
We selected this property because it is located on the 'dry side' of Volcano, it's bounty of native Koa and Ohia trees that are filled with birds. John took great care in removing only enough trees to build and the home is designed with a bedroom off the lanai to save trees and give this home a tree house feel.

The peace and cool of Volcano
A beautiful home in the Volcano golf course neighborhood. It made a fantastic base for exploring the NP. We loved the great kitchen and comfortably living area, and the upstairs sitting area for watching the birds and some star gazing. The detached master suite is a cool design, although we opted not to sleep there. We loved the cooler temperatures at 4000' and did not need to build a fire in the wood stove, but the throws were nice to cover our legs in the evenings. Groceries are definitely a challenge to find in Volcano, but what we did find, we cooked up in the we stocked, spacious kitchen. It could use some house numbers out front as GPS got us close, but not exactly to the property but once we drove up the driveway, we knew we'd found it from the photos on Homeaway. This was hands-down our favorite place to stay on the island and would definitely stay again.
Beautiful place, great location!
This house is beautiful! Staying here made us feel like we were staying somewhere special! It has been built with a lot of care and thought into what might make you feel like you are on a tropical vacation in tropical paradise! Thank you for everything! We highly recommend this house to anyone who wants to stay in this area!
Great house and location close to Volcano. We enjoyed several hikes in the park, explored the South and East parts of the island. We appreciated the hot tub and beautiful yard. Beaches on this side of the island are poor compared to the Kona/Kohala coasts. But we were ready to hike and explore for a bit anyway. The Thai restaurant in Volcano was yummy! Would definitely stay again!
Launching point near The Park!
Great place to relax between hiking and exploring the park. Very comfortable and unique, loved the place!
This beautiful home is nestled in the Volcano rainforest. Tranquil with only the singing of birds to greet you in the AM. Beds are comfortable with plenty of towels and linens. Our family of 5 enjoyed hiking in nearby Volcano National Park then returning to this lovely home to soak in the hot tub. We ate out some in the tiny Volcano Village and also cooked in the well equipped kitchen. Check in and check out were easy.
Great location to National Park!
Amazing house, had everything we needed for our family of 5. Super close to the National Park. Host was wonderful and made sure we had everything we needed. Would highly recommend for any family.
We are 3 miles past the entrance to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, just past the Volcano Golf Course which is located on Pi'imauna Drive (1st Right past the 4,000 elevation marker on Highway 11). We are a 20 minute walk to the edge of Kilauea Caldera (from the house),10 minute walk to the golf course & a 5 minute walk to the winery. Lots of hiking trails, cycling, exploring the National Park and lava viewing.
You may also park at the entrance of our subdivision at the corner of Pi'imauna and the highway and access the park or the shopping facilities within the Kilauea Military camp. From here the walk to the caldera is less than 10 minutes. Access the hiking trails across from the flag pole at Kilauea Military Camp ...aka KMC.
We have 2 bikes for your enjoyment as well.
