3 Bedroom 1.5 Bath hand crafted from native woods, jacuzzi, fireplace, privacy
Explore Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and experience the Aloha of Hawaii Island while staying at this gorgeous, hand crafted home near Volcano Golf Course & Country Club. Nestled amongst the native Koa and Ohia Lehua Trees with a sweeping view of Mauna Loa and a steady serenade from the numerous native birds, this Hawaiian retreat will envelope you with a complete sense of peace and relaxation. Hale Ka Lehua was designed by owners John & Mindi Clark and personally built by John which shows in every well thought out detail.
The extensive use of glass gives one the feeling of being outside while within the warm comfort of indoors...perhaps snuggled next to the wood burning fireplace.
This 3 bedroom, 1.5 bath retreat has a completely private master bedroom located outside of the main home off of the front lanai. This sweet room has a full sized memory foam bed with a native garden view, 1/2 bath, night stand, reading lights over the bed and a small space heater for extra chilly winter nights.
The main floor bedroom has a queen memory foam bed, a small desk and closet and is located across the hall from the full bath (both Tub & shower).
The upstairs 'room with a view'' is a multi-purpose room with a full size Futon sofa bed (a real matress not a cotton one along with a memory foam mattress pad topper) that can be used as a reading or game room, a bedroom or a perfect place to practice Yoga, meditate or simply have some quiet time enjoying the full, mountain view of Mauna Loa through Frank Lloyd Wright inspired seamless corner windows.
The kitchen boasts gorgeous 'Flower Garden' granite, gas stove and oven and is completely stocked with Le Creuset cookware, small appliances and Riedel wine glasses.
French doors spill out from the solid ohia wood floored living & dining room onto the wrap around lanai that has outside dining and gas BBQ grill as well.
We invite you to come enjoy the beauty and quietude of this beautiful brand new home while exploring the amazing dynamics of Kilauea, the world's most active volcano located within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
The 'Dry side' of Volcano keeps you out out of what can be a constant drizzle & fog that shrouds the eastern flank. The golf course area is located just beyond the crest of 4,000' and dips you into the Kau side of Volcano where the temps will still range from the 40's to the mid 70's but with far more sun! We are 3 miles past the entrance to the park, but you can walk to the edge of the caldera from our home in just 20 minutes...a perfect place to sip a glass of wine while soaking in the view of Halema'uma'u and getting a glimpse of the powers of Madame Pele.
Both the Volcano Golf Course and Volcano Winery are within a few minutes walk from the house.

About Melinda Clark
We moved to the Hawaiian village of Kalapana located on the SE corner of the Big Island in 1981 to escape the freeways of So. California. We were blessed to live, surf and paddle canoe here for 8 years before Madame Pele covered this community with lava in the late 80's & early 90's. We lost our home to the lava but our orchid farm,'Kalapana Tropicals' that we started in 1987 remains in tact and is now just one of 2 orchid nurseries that we own and operate...the other being in Kurtistown where we have lived since 1990. Free orchid farm tours for our guests!
Melinda Clark purchased this Cabin in 2009
Why Melinda Clark chose Volcano Golf and Country Club
We love the Volcano area for it's cool weather, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, and hiking and cycling opportunities. It's a quick get-a-way for us as it is only 20 minutes from our home in Kurtistown and we feel like we are in another world!
What makes this Cabin unique
We selected this property because it is located on the 'dry side' of Volcano, it's bounty of native Koa and Ohia trees that are filled with birds. John took great care in removing only enough trees to build and the home is designed with a bedroom off the lanai to save trees and give this home a tree house feel.

Great Stay in Volcano
We had a great stay. The house was great and perfect location for our visit to Volcano National Park. As others have mentioned the house is beautiful and a nice quite refuge at the end of a long day. The hosts were responsive and great. We hope to be able to stay here again soon.
Gorgeous backyard, I loved listening to the birds while relaxing in the jacuzzi. Lots of windows to enjoy nature. I would definitely come back and recommend this house to others.
Idyllic rain forest cabin retreat
Beautifully crafted custom home, friendly/responsive/accommodating hosts, immaculate, stocked with everything you need, super convenient location -- just over one mile walk/run to get to the crater rim trail. Kids were thrilled to find a tree house in the back. Watched the nighttime Kilauea glow from the Jacuzzi. Cozy sleeping area in the upstairs loft has great views, agree with others that a bed might make more sense up there but no complaints as the futon was comfortable. Can't wait to go back!!
Lovely home near National Park
Fantastic, cozy home very close to the Volcanoes National Park. Great hosts even allowed us to check in a bit early on our arrival day. How nice it was to have a bit more room for our family of six for a night than traditional hotel rooms would allow! Given the high quality of the overall home, we were a bit surprised that the beds and bedding seemed quite worn and the kitchen pots/pans were in really rough shape. I think with some new mattresses and sheets, some pillows without stains, and some higher quality cookware, this place would easily be five stars. Thank you so much for sharing your home!
Lovely home just 2 miles from the entrance to Volcano National Park
This is our 6th visit to the Big Island and our 3rd time at this beautiful house. It must mean something that we keep extending our stays. We come to see Kilauea but it doesn’t hurt to have an architectural masterpiece to come home to. Nestled on a quiet cul-de-sac with a jacuzzi in its very private backyard, kalij pheasants and other exotic birds surrounding you, the option of a romantic detached bedroom off the back porch, gourmet kitchen with all new appliaces, wood-burning potbelly stove, orchids growing in every room, this place is a visual and sensual delight. The golf course three blocks away is a bird-watcher’s delight where you are almost certain to encounter Nenes and Saffron Finches. For the budget conscious: it is possible to recoup your rntire cleaning fee by washing the linens and taking out the garbage.
My only complaint: the temperature is set too low on the oudoor jacuzzi and given the relatively cool weather and frequent rains this discouraged us from using it as much as we would have liked.
5 minutes from Volcano Natl Park
Luxurious tropical retreat that is spotlessly clean. Wild pheasants paraded around the backyard each morning. Comfortable mattress. Great shower. The bedroom upstairs has lots of large windows and is perfect for stargazing at night. Netflix came in handy after long day hiking.
We are 3 miles past the entrance to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, just past the Volcano Golf Course which is located on Pi'imauna Drive (1st Right past the 4,000 elevation marker on Highway 11). We are a 20 minute walk to the edge of Kilauea Caldera (from the house),10 minute walk to the golf course & a 5 minute walk to the winery. Lots of hiking trails, cycling, exploring the National Park and lava viewing. You may also park at the entrance of our subdivision at the corner of Pi'imauna and the highway and access the park or the shopping facilities within the Kilauea Military camp. From here the walk to the caldera is less than 10 minutes. Access the hiking trails across from the flag pole at Kilauea Military Camp ...aka KMC. We have 2 bikes for your enjoyment as well.
