About European house

We are a family from San Francisco. Tahoe is the place we escape to. We come to Ski in the winter; hiking, biking, and relax by the lake in the summer. It's a truly amazing nature all year round!

European house purchased this house in 2012

Why European house chose South Lake Tahoe

We choose Heavenly because it is close to everything yet away from it all. It's a block to heavenly ski lift. Walking distance to Marina, the lake, Heavenly village and casinos.

What makes this house unique

Relaxing on the sun drenched deck that is so quiet surrounded by majestic pine and hearing the bird sing is truly magical!

Very nice cabin and great location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed with my 10 friends for the weekend. The cabin is really big to fit all of us, we could walk to the ski lift, which was very convenient as the traffic get bad in the morning. The house is clean and well equipped. And the big plus is the private hot tub! We had a really good time and we would love to come back!

Plus, the owner is very good at fast communication. Thank you!

I will start with the positives. Great location, one min drive to the Heavenly tram, good communication, nice washer and dryer, and a newish refrigerator. Everything else in the house needs serious attention. Some people just don’t try to make their places “rentable”. The stove is broken, controls have fallen out. Over 1” gap behind the sink where all the grout fell out of the counter. You would have a very difficult time giving the couch away free, my daughter said she broke her butt sitting on it! There was a big wall where it looks like a big piece of art work hung, and they have a Christmas tree ornament hanging there. One bedroom had no shade, so we hung a sheet to block the sun. The bathrooms and kitchen are very outdated. Carpet may be original to 1960. We killed a number of spiders. Overall I would say the place is bare bones as you can get. If they spent $30,000 just doing some basic stuff and getting some furnishings the place could be great.

Owner's Response: Hi Ford, I am so sorry about that one piece of sofa. We had some guest's kids jumping on the sofa before your arrival. We ordered new sofa, it takes time to get here. Our housekeeping is usually pretty good at cleaning the house and get rid of the webs. Let me check with them make sure they are doing their job correctly. Thanks for your feedback.

Outdated but nice and homey

  • 4 of 5

Other than cosmetic issues and a few pests, house was clean and homey. Our trip was great.

We saw a few spiders and webs. There were especially present at the dining table chandelier. Spiders kept swinging down to greet us from their web. We saw one mouse run across the bottom floor (where bedroom and bathroom and garage were).

There were cosmetic issues, missing tiles in various places, broken front door knob that looks like it's about to fall off, light hood over stove fell off with no warning, hot tub water was yellow/brown... just seems like the house was not maintained (loose screws/glue causing stuff to fall apart) but the overall house was good and clean. It was liveable.

We would stay here again.

Solid (no frills) for Easy Going Groups

  • 4 of 5

Overall: We enjoyed our stay at this home. It is best for groups who are easy going and are visiting Tahoe for the outdoor activities, not for the luxuries of the house. It's in a great location - steps from the slopes and walk-able to the beach as well.

1. Location - we stayed during summer but for winter it's walking distance to the Heavenly CA lodge. This is by far it's best benefit

2. Responsive Host - Kayleen is flexible and responsive.

3. Beds are comfortable

4. Easy, fast booking. Stress free communication with owner. Got full deposit back no questions asked.

5. Outdoor area is great. Nice large deck. Hot tub. Does get very hot and sunny in the afternoon though - no shade.

6. Electronic key made entry and exit super easy

1. Sleeps 8, not 12. There are enough beds for 8, plus 2 cots. I'm assuming the eleventh and twelfth person would sleep on the couch? We had 10 and it worked out (using the two cots) because, once again, we are an easy going group.

2. Charcoal grill - totally fine to have a charcoal grill, but an extra trip to the grocery could have been avoided had we known it wasn't a gas grill before arriving

3. Hot tub turns off randomly - we had to turn it back on constantly to avoid it getting cold.

4. Wifi turns off randomly - enough said. Although when it's working it's fast.

5. Couch is large but very uncomfortable. You sink in in many spots.

6. Very limited cooking utensils/basics. No olive oil, no cooking spray, absolutely nothing in the fridge. We understand buying some stuff, but with all these groups coming in and out, you'd think there'd be some basics left behind. They clearly remove everything - except salt and pepper.

Great location!

  • 5 of 5

The house is situated perfectly for our family, especially considering the varied pursuits of each of us. The kids walked to the slopes, and the adults took back streets to the casinos. The back deck is fantastic: quiet, and a great place to relax and take in the mountain air.

See you again in two years when we return to Tahoe!
