A Little Piece of Heaven!!
This beautiful property has absolutely everything one could ever need or want in a cottage rental. The cottage was spotless upon our arrival, had absolutely everything we could need (including some firewood to get out bonfire started the first night!!), plenty of room, and a breathtaking view!! The property is private, as is the beach area. Now that we have found this gem, I can't imagine renting anywhere else. Absolutely perfect!!
The "Easy Livin' Cottage" Delivers
This was our third rental, the last being in the Fall of 2017. We were pleased to see some upgrades. There is a new larger TV with cable and internet with WiFi. It was nice not to have to monitor data usage. Also, there is a new picnic table in the yard. We had some very chilly nights but the heat pump and baseboard heaters kept the cottage comfy. However, there is one upgrade that is needed. The queen mattress is soft and lumpy and should be changed. Overall we had a very pleasant stay and the weather cooperated.
John and Margie
John and Margie - Thank you for the review. We have a new queen bed ready to go in and will also be updating the couch in the living room for the 2020 season. Hope to see you back again!
Great Time on Seneca Lake
It was everything they said, very relaxing and we had a great here...would definitely do it again.
Great family time away
My husband and I stayed here with our teenage daughter - and our black lab. We loved the cottage, especially the huge screened in porch. Such a relaxing space! Being at the end of the lane, with trees on either side really gave great privacy. The new dock is a great place for morning coffee, afternoon reading and a drink at happy hour :)
We looked through their big binder of info about the area and found so much to do - some favorites include having a drink at Belhurst Castle (in the tavern), getting ice cream at the Spotted Duck, getting breakfast at the adorable Penn Yan Diner and blueberry picking at Sugarshack Farm (the drive there was beautiful!).
The train did not bother us at all, since it was infrequent and very short-lived - in fact, we kind of enjoyed watching it each time! The only downside is the traffic noise, but we were mostly able to tune it out. It is just the reality for most of the properties on this side of the lake, by nature of how close the road is to the lake.
We would 100% come back to this property again. We really loved our time there!!
We enjoyed our stay very much - especially the screened-in porch -our grandson slept there every night. The air conditioner saved us on a couple super hot, humid days. The area is also fun to explore - we didn't do any wineries, but used our kayaks, enjoyed the splash pad at Seneca Lake State Park, went for ice cream, drove around nearby Keuka Lake, another of the Finger Lakes, etc. The owner's dad is close by and will help with any questions or needs you may have.
The Finger Lakes offers attractions for visitors of all ages:
Child's Play: Seneca Lake State Park has a spray ground, and the Community Playground is located just south of the Ramada, right on the lake. Roseland Waterpark in Canandaigua offers fun for all with slides and a wave pool. Go-Karts make for fun in Penn Yan.
Boating: Contact Roy's Marina for boat and jet ski rentals. Take a cruise on Seneca Lake from Geneva on the Cayuga-Seneca Canal, from Watkins Glen on the south end of Seneca Lake or on Canandaigua Lake on the Canandaigua Lady. If you trailer your own boat, it can be launched from nearby sites, but cannot be moored overnight at the cottage dock.
Tour the Wine, Beer and Cheese Trails: Together the Finger Lakes Wine Trails feature over 200 wineries. The cottage is located near the beginning of the Seneca Lake Wine Trail which offers award winning wines for every taste. Cayuga and Keuka Lakes also offer wine trails; The Finger Lake Cheese Trail offers artisan cheeses made in the Finger Lakes; The Finger Lakes Beer Trail promotes awareness of the growing craft brewing industry in the Finger Lakes region?.
Shopping: Shop for fresh produce at the local farm stands or Farmer's Markets in Geneva, Penn Yan and Canandaigua. Pick your own strawberries all season long at Seneca Breeze Berries just down the road from the cottage, or blueberries. Visit the Waterloo Outlets or the Windmill Farm and Craft Market (Saturdays only).
Antiquing: Visit the Geneva Antiques Co-op or the many shops in the area.
Golf: Play Seneca Lake Country Club, Big Oak Public Golf Course, or the four courses on the Finger Lakes Golf Trail: Bristol Harbour, Greystone, Ravenwood and Mill Creek.
Performing Arts: Enjoy live theatre and concerts at the Finger Lakes Performing Arts Center in Canandaigua, Smith Opera House in Geneva, and the Merry Go Round Playhouse in Auburn.
Hike: Hike the beautiful gorges at Watkins Glen State Park or the Taughannock Falls State Park in Trumansburg. Walk the trail on the Keuka Outlet along the river from Penn Yan to Dresden. There is a paved walking trail along the foot of Seneca Lake in Geneva that begins near the Ramada and goes all the way to the State Park.
Bike: Bicycle on the back country roads or along the path of the Erie Canal.
Museums and Historic Sites: Visit the Prouty Chew Museum in Geneva for an exhibit on the history of the city, Rose Hill Mansion, Ganondagan State Historic Site in Victor, Corning Museum of Glass, Strong Museum of Play in Rochester, the Glenn Curtiss Aviation Museum in Hammondsport, or the Seward House in Auburn, the Women's Rights National Historical Park and Hall of Fame in Seneca Falls and more.
Art Museums: Enjoy the collection of artwork featured at the Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester, Rockwell Museum of Western Art in Corning, or the Johnson Museum of Art in Ithaca.
Wildlife: Visit Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge in Savannah or ride by the old Seneca Army Depot along Route 96 and hope to catch a glimpse of the famous white deer grazing in the fields behind the fence.
Racing at 'The Glen': Watkins Glen International hosts races throughout the season.
Restaurants: Area restaurants offer a variety of opportunities - simple, gourmet, organic or vegetarian fare, breakfast, brunch, lunch, tea, dinner, dining inside, outside and overlooking the lake. The notebook at the cottage is full of menus and directions. Several ice cream stands are in the area, we suggest trying out each, as they all offer delicious treats. If you want to enroll in a cooking lesson or learn more about wine paring, you might want to visit the Finger Lakes Wine and Culinary Institute in Canandaigua. Be aware that many of the local wineries feature their own special restaurant fare.
