About Phil Lavender

Phil and Ginny Lavender are the property owners. We are both retired and would love to share our new vacation home with you. Our primary home is in Lake Orion, MI. although we both were born and raised in western Michigan.

Phil Lavender purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Phil Lavender chose Honor

Phil's mother and grandparents grew up in the area and Benzie County has always been a second home. The family cabin, built in the late '30's is located just a few hundred yards away. Building our own log cabin has always been a goal for Phil and his sister who also built a cabin nearby.

What makes this cabin unique

Special attractions to our place are the birds and other wildlife, the closeness of Lake Michigan and the Sleeping Bear Dunes, Little Platte Lake and the Platte River. We especially enjoy our back porch overlooking a quiet stream and woods. We also enjoy evening campfires and back-yard barbecues.

Cute Cabin, Quiet Spot

  • 4 of 5

My family, and I really enjoyed staying at this cabin in MI this summer. It was the perfect size for our family 5, with plenty of outdoor space for our boys to run around and have fun. My only suggestion would be for the owners to invest in some more comfortable seating. There was one small love seat and a rocking chair in the living room, and the back, screened porch only had older, wooden furniture. It was hard to for each of us to find a comfortable place to sit and read.

Wonderful stay!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our time at Phil and Ginny's

cabin. This is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy the peace and quiet of up north Michigan. We loved the fact we could drive just five minutes to the beach and were less than ten minutes from Empire.

Up North Gem

  • 5 of 5

Pictures do not do justice. Rooms are much larger. Love the screened in porch on back of cabin. Great place to launch off and enjoy all the Sleeping Bear Dunes area has to offer. Close to Lake Michigan beach access. Don't overlook beach at the end of Esch Rd. Little Platte Lake just down road for fishing and Kayaking. Convenient location! Highly recommend for a relaxing and outdoors vacation.

This property is so peaceful and relaxing! We will definitely be going back some time in the future! We had 4 adults and 2 kids, the cabin was perfect size!! Great location for day trips to traverse city and the Sand dunes. We also went to Glen arbor and empire. The few things that we forgot from home were already supplied in the cabin! I cannot complain about a thing!!!

Amazing stay at a beautiful get-a-way

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I hoped for a relaxing and secluded vacation with lots of opportunities for activities and adventures. That is exactly what we found at this beautiful cabin! The photos do not do it or the surrounding grounds justice. It is a pristine cabin with all of the necessary amenities to aid in the shared meals and activities we had planned. Exploring the area around the house is an adventure itself. The few small trails on the property don't really lead to any particular destination, but they are nice little distractions for kids or friends while waiting to for food to be prepared or to have a nice morning stroll. I loved the combination of wooded area with open land that provided opportunities for adventure during the day and fantastic star gazing at night! The cabin is also very conveniently located to some of northern Michigan's most beautiful beaches and dunes. My friends and I also kayaked on the lower palette river while we were there which was breath-taking. There are several kayak rental that conveniently located that make a great adventurous addition to any trip. I could not have imagined a better location and vacation. :)

Come visit our recently built log cabin and have a wonderful time visiting the Sleeping Bear Dune National Lakeshore area. We are just minutes from many of the local tourist areas you will want to visit such as Empire, Frankfort, Crystal Lake, Traverse City and, of course, the dunes and shorelines of Lake Michigan.

Saffron Road has public access to Little Platte Lake which is a scenic 800 acre lake with quiet, natural beauty. Wildlife includes loons, beaver, eagles, and excellent fishing. The lake is connected to Big Platte Lake via Deadstream and Platte River and continues to Lake Michigan. Canoeing, kayaking, tubing and fishing are the main attractions.

Our log cabin is located in a wooded area only a mile from the the beautiful Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore park and all of its natural attractions such as Pierce Stocking scenic drive, the world-famous Dune Climb, Glen Arbor and the Manitou Islands. The sandy beaches of Lake Michigan are just a few minutes away. You may swim, build sand castles, or walk along the shore and hunt for Petoskey stones!

Our log cabin is open year-round for summer vacations, fall color tours, fishing, winter skiing and snowmobiling and spring mushrooming.

The area has many quaint lakeside communities, wineries, shopping, arts, antiques, dining, golf, casinos, and sight-seeing, etc. Fine arts and museums are located at nearby Traverse City and Interlochen Arts Academy. Take a lighthouse tour at Point Betsie or take the family to the nearby Cherry Bowl Drive-in Movie!

We are located only minutes from Empire, Frankfort, Crystal Mountain(Skiing and golf), Interlochen and Traverse City. Other great golf opportunities are only minutes away as well as cross-country and snowmobile trails.
