About Phil Lavender
Phil and Ginny Lavender are the property owners. We are both retired and would love to share our new vacation home with you. Our primary home is in Lake Orion, MI. although we both were born and raised in western Michigan.
Phil Lavender purchased this Cabin in 2012
Why Phil Lavender chose Honor
Phil's mother and grandparents grew up in the area and Benzie County has always been a second home. The family cabin, built in the late '30's is located just a few hundred yards away. Building our own log cabin has always been a goal for Phil and his sister who also built a cabin nearby.
What makes this Cabin unique
Special attractions to our place are the birds and other wildlife, the closeness of Lake Michigan and the Sleeping Bear Dunes, Little Platte Lake and the Platte River. We especially enjoy our back porch overlooking a quiet stream and woods. We also enjoy evening campfires and back-yard barbecues.
Just what we were hoping for.
This cabin quickly became home away from home for our family. Pretty sure our kids loved the property's creek and campfire areas more than the Sleeping Bear Dunes attractions we visited. Clean, comfortable, quiet, and remote but with all of the modern amenities we wanted for an October getaway. Great location for the Sleeping Bear Dunes attractions, Glen Arbor, Empire, etc. As the title mentions, this was exactly the experience we were hoping for when we made the reservations.
Great family cabin in the woods
We really enjoyed our stay here. It's conveniently located just a short drive away from Sleeping Bear and lots of hiking and outdoor activities. The cabin is really nice, and being there in October with mixed weather it was great to have a cozy place to play games and read and watch movies. There are two nice sized bedrooms and bathrooms, and a loft with queen futon and a couple cots. I would suggest bringing some air mattresses if you're going to be using more than the 3 beds. The kitchen is great and fully functional. The cabin stayed warm while it was cold outside, but be forewarned that there is not much noise insulation in the house. The living space is on the small side-- seating for 4 in the tv area, which for us was fine because we had 4 adults and 3 kids, so when watching movies we made a pile of blankets and pillows on the floor for the kids and they were comfortable. There's also only a small table that extends in the eat-in kitchen to seat 4-6, but there's a card table and chairs in one of the closets. All in all a really sweet little cabin and we would definitely stay again.
Note to owners: The dvd player kept skipping so that when watching a dvd it would suddenly stall and then send you to a different chapter. At first we thought it was the dvd we were watching but it happened to all of them, so must be the player.
Nice quite place with a great location for day trips.
We really enjoyed our stay.
Nice cabin in great location!
Great space for our family. Enjoyed the enclosed porch the most.
Cute Cabin, Quiet Spot
My family, and I really enjoyed staying at this cabin in MI this summer. It was the perfect size for our family 5, with plenty of outdoor space for our boys to run around and have fun. My only suggestion would be for the owners to invest in some more comfortable seating. There was one small love seat and a rocking chair in the living room, and the back, screened porch only had older, wooden furniture. It was hard to for each of us to find a comfortable place to sit and read.
Up North Gem
Pictures do not do justice. Rooms are much larger. Love the screened in porch on back of cabin. Great place to launch off and enjoy all the Sleeping Bear Dunes area has to offer. Close to Lake Michigan beach access. Don't overlook beach at the end of Esch Rd. Little Platte Lake just down road for fishing and Kayaking. Convenient location! Highly recommend for a relaxing and outdoors vacation.
Come visit our recently built log cabin and have a wonderful time visiting the Sleeping Bear Dune National Lakeshore area. We are just minutes from many of the local tourist areas you will want to visit such as Empire, Frankfort, Crystal Lake, Traverse City and, of course, the dunes and shorelines of Lake Michigan.
