About Deborah Read

We live in the Bay Area and have rented properties in the Twain Harte/Mi Wuk area for many years. We have been drawn back here so many times because there is so much to do in both winter and summer. We finally decided to buy our own cabin and completed the purchase on New Year's Eve 2012!

Deborah Read purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Deborah Read chose Gold Country & High Sierra

We fell in love with this cabin the minute we saw it. The first floor is beautifully remodeled and the huge games room downstairs was an instant hit with our two teenagers. It's proximity to skiing, water sports and rock climbing was an added bonus.

What makes this cabin unique

Sierra Park is the perfect place for families. In the summer you can walk to the small lake which is situated within the park as is the sledding hill in the winter. Ice skating in Long Barn is also close by or you can take the 15 minute drive to Pinecrest Lake or Dodge Ridge for skiing. Twain Harte is 8 miles down the road with many dining options and golf.

one of the best cabins so far we stayed.

All the equipments are in well working condition and little bit high tech might be confusing for some people. We all had a blast staying there the only complaint that kids had was no internet connection which was a good thing for us to be away from electronic devices. Definitely going back sometime soon.

Relaxing Family Vacation

  • 4 of 5

Our family of ten spent alittle over a week at the cabin. We cooked togather, the guys played game after game of pool togather, and the kids had a wonderful time learning to play pool and the other games available. It rained the first three days, but we found that charming. After that there were nothing but blue skies. The area has plenty to do and some good places to eat. We got wonderful pizza at Mias and a good breakfast at the Sugar Shack. The cabin was clean enough and was pretty well mantained. It is as lovely as the pictures show. All the instructions for useing the cabin were clear and easily understood. The owners did their part in a timely manner. What we loved the most was not having cell service, after about three days all of us just completely relaxed. It is so dark at night and quiet we begin to sleep like the children. We were sorry to leave.

Peaceful!

  • 5 of 5

Had a great "girls trip" with several family members. The house is amazing with the kitchen and the deck being our favorite areas. We cooked a variety of meals from clam chowder to pork tenderloin and had everything we needed in the kitchen.

I did miss having internet a little bit even though it is good to disconnect now and then. Just took a bit to get used to! Cell reception was hit and miss but usually could get a signal out on the deck. All just part of the wilderness experience!

We did visit Yosemite but it is a bit of a drive. I strongly recommend a visit to Calaveras State Park to see the big trees! That was definitely a highlight of our trip.

Overall, had a peaceful, relaxing stay!

Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing stay, the cabin is better than the pictures.

The decking is fantastic, can't think of a nicer way to start the day with a coffee or in the evening with some wine.

My children loved the games room, so much to keep them entertained.

The local area is lovely and the people are the nicest we have ever encountered.

Loved it! So relaxing and beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

The property was everything it was promised to be and more! The moment we stepped into the house, we felt peace and comfort. We had planned for two years for a family reunion and we could not have picked a better place for it. There was more than enough room for us and the game room was the perfect place to keep 5 kids, ages 4 - 10, entertained for hours on end. In the evenings the adults would sit around the fire pit and talk for hours into the night. I had to contact the owner with a couple of questions and they were quick to get right back to us with the answers. I definitely would recommend this to others. We were there for 5 days, and even though most times we didn't get cell phone reception and there was no internet, we didn't miss it. It just gave us more time to spend with each other. During the day, each family would take their own time to sight see. My son-in-law loved the little store in Twain Harte but I didn't get a chance to visit it. My husband and I drove up to see the Big Trees, and also drove up to Sonora Pass and was awed by God's handiwork! None of us ate out while there since the kitchen facilities was so beautiful and so well equipped, we just stocked up on groceries and cooked the meals there so that we could all eat together. I definitely will keep this place in mind for a future reunion or get-away!
