We are a long married semi-retired couple who have always enjoyed boating here in MA and also in Maine where Nat spent his childhood summers sailing. We have two married sons with children who enjoy the water as much as we do.
Nathaniel or Hester Clapp purchased this cottage in 2012
Having spent our early summers in mid coast Maine, it had always been our dream to own a home in Maine. We spent several years looking for the perfect house in Maine but in 1995 when we saw this piece of property on the harbor in Friendship we knew this was our dream location. Over the next 2 years we built the main house and as our children got married and had their own children we realized we needed more space so we could all enjoy this area at the same time. Last year was the first summer we enjoyed the recently constructed cottage not far from the main house
Friendship is a quiet town where many of the residents are involved in fishing and lobstering. It is enjoyable to observe the activities of the fishing fleet in the harbor. However, the privacy of our cottage also afford one the pleasure of watching seals, eagles and osprey from the deck.
My family thoroughly enjoyed this rental cottage on the water. It is centrally located to many coastal towns for sightseeing. We ventured down to Booth Bay and all the way up to Camden. It is close to the Owls Head Museum (a must see) and you can take the boat out to Monhegan Island for the day from Port Clyde. After each busy day, it was great to come home to the peace and quiet of Tamarack cottage. If you need some groceries....or a good pizza, the general store is only 5 minutes from the cottage. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. A perfect vacation!!
We spent the Memorial Day weekend at this Friendship jewel. Hester was extremely generous and helpful in making our family trip a fun vacation. The cottage is very well appointed and our family of 7 (5 adults, 2 kids) fit in very nicely. The views from the house and the patio are fabulous. Waking up in the master bed looking out over the water is a real treat. The kitchen had everything we needed to fix two big dinners. We took a road trip to Acadia National Park (2.5hrs away) and loved it. The Persmiquid Lighthouse park is also a good short drive. We walked down to the Friendship harbor in the morning to check out the lobster traps. And to top things off, the owners 1yr old pup Olivia dropped by to say hello ... What a treat for our kids who love dogs!
We have been renting houses in Maine for over a decade for our annual summer gathering, and this house was the most perfect place. The setting on Friendship Harbor is gorgeous with rooms that are both spacious and cozy. The front deck was a favorite spot for morning coffee in the sun and in the afternoons, we watched the lobster boats returning from their day on the water. We had several large family dinners gathered around the dining room table and the kids loved playing games on the lawn or hunting for treasures on the beach during low tide. The ping pong table was a huge hit with all ages. The house has everything we needed - including a first aid kit and wi-fi - but was not at all cluttered. The owners were so welcoming, pleased that we were able to use the dock for boating and swimming ( well only the brave kids went in the cold water), and were wonderful neighbors during our stay. This is a great spot for a family gathering and we will definitely want to return next year.
My brother first rented this house in July. While visiting with him there, we fell in love with its location on Friendship harbor, the large attractive house, and its dock so we rented it for ourselves in August and again in September. The house is full of light with an open floor plan and tall ceilings, so well suited to vacationing with family and friends. The three bedrooms are large and spacious with gorgeous views of the harbor. A very convenient location, a short walk to the harbor to buy your lobsters or to Wallace's general store for provisions. The wood burning stove kept us cozy on a cool September evening. Each morning, we enjoyed our coffee on the dock while watching the seals follow the lobster boats. The owners could not have been more friendly and accommodating. Everything we needed was provided. A summer full of fabulous memories at this cottage, I only wish we could return again.
