Casa Del Sol is a gorgeous plantation style home that consists of a majestic 2-level stone main house that is flanked on both sides by a 2-level bedroom tower. The building materials and the design of Casa Del Sol are traditional Caribbean, with handsome arched stonework and antique brick patios, two grand stairways, fully screened and custom built mahogany doors and windows, terra cotta tiled floors, and beamed cathedral ceilings. It enjoys a wonderfully scenic and sunny location in the top row of villas in the exclusive and private neighborhood of Klein Bay, on the south shore of St. John. It’s less than a 10 minute drive into Cruz Bay with all its colorful restaurants, bars and boutiques, and it’s less than a 10 minute walk down to swimming and snorkeling at the small beach below the house. Klein Bay is a neighborhood with no commercial hotels or condos and very limited residential development, so this area has maintained its unique beauty and peaceful character.
As for the house, it is beautiful to behold and wonderful to enjoy. The great room and two bedrooms are on the upper level, while the lower level contains two bedrooms, pool, wet bar, a fifth full bath and a covered deck and sun decks. That gives everybody plenty of room and privacy while also providing many common areas for people to share together.
In 2014 the entire villa was remodeled with a custom install of fully screened doors and windows. One of the objectives of the remodel was to insure that the soothing Caribbean winds can drift through the house, but the no-see-ums and other flying insects cannot. With arched stone windows and doorways it cost almost $300,00 to effectively remodel every door and window, but the job was a complete success that now greatly enhances the comfort and livability of Casa Del Sol.
All the bedrooms are air conditioned with screened mahogany doors and windows, terra cotta tiled floors, queen mahogany beds, plantation style furniture, custom built mahogany and granite baths, and showers with a lovely view. Both upper bedrooms open to their own 100 sq/ft covered balcony with a lovely view, while the lower bedrooms also open to a covered deck with scenic views. Each bedroom includes a custom granite and mahogany bath and shower.
On the upper level there is a 650 square foot great room that contains the living, dining and kitchen areas. With its handsome stone walls, arched screened mahogany doors and windows, beamed cathedral ceiling, terra cotta tiled floors, and wicker and mahogany furniture, this room recreates the feeling of a classic Caribbean plantation. Yet it also includes a 32” flat screen TV/DVD, high speed wireless internet, and an AM/FM stereo/CD played through 4 ceiling mounted speakers in the great room, with another 4 speakers on the lower level at the wet bar and pool, with volume controls on both levels.
The kitchen combines beauty and function with mahogany cabinets and granite counter tops, a side by side refrigerator and freezer with water and ice dispenser, a 4 burner glass topped electric stove with 36” standard and convection ovens, a microwave, dishwasher, blender, toaster, and coffeemaker. A 12 piece set of Calphalon cookware and abundant dishes, dinnerware, and dining linens for a party of 10 are provided.
Like so many visitors to St. John, our family fell in love with this wonderful island because there’s just no other place quite as special and beautiful as St. John, especially for a Caribbean family vacation. We were looking for a comfortable home away from home where our children could walk to a beach and where they could safely walk around the local town to shop and explore. We also wanted a home that was both classic and beautiful on the outside, and modern and comfortable on the inside. When Casa Del Sol came on the market, we knew this was the perfect home for us. Because the villa is a member of the Klein Bay Association, we have access to the beach below the house, which provides enjoyable swimming, snorkeling and kayaking in calm, warm Caribbean waters (kayaks can be rented in Cruz Bay). We were also enthralled by this wonderful location, with lots of sun, marvelous views, and a tranquil and serene atmosphere. The oversized lot that surrounds Casa Del Sol also provides the peaceful privacy that we truly love. For our family, Casa Del Sol is a slice of heaven and we hope you enjoy it just as much as we do.
Casa Del Sol was built in 1999 and was very well cared for and was not rented, so when we bought it 11 years later the house was in like new condition, and we intend to keep it that way. The home consists of a classic exterior design, with a thoroughly modern interior. For those who love to be outside, but not in the sun, Casa Del Sol’s multiple covered decks and balconies provide numerous places to relax and enjoy the lovely views. Because the decks were thoughtfully designed with a direct line of sight into the pool, adults can relax nearby in the shade while watching over any children in the pool.
For families that love to vacation together, the four bedrooms provide excellent privacy with no common walls. Each bedroom has a covered balcony or deck, lovely views, custom granite and mahogany baths, and showers with a view
The pool and the spacious sun deck are bathed in Caribbean sunshine from sunrise to late in the afternoon. The pool has stereo speakers at both ends, and a few steps away is a stone and granite wet bar and refrigerator, plus another set of speakers with speaker controls. At night, starlight and moonbeams shimmer on the sea before you. When you’re in the pool, you’re surrounded by music, soothed by the gentle trade winds and very relaxed.
Our group of 4 couples found Casa del Sol the perfect mix of togetherness and privacy. So many outdoor living spaces--both sunny and shaded--to gather and enjoy the views and one another. Indoor great room/kitchen wonderful for nightly feasts. 4 separate pods/bedrooms for each couple to have some privacy. The home is nicely stocked with all you need for cooking and dining. Beach equipment in good shape and in ample supply. Screens to keep the mosquitoes out. Only criticism would be the lighting in the kitchen is lacking for evening meal prep, but if that is all you can complain about in paradise, I think it's a pretty good day!
This house is amazing! The 8 in our party enjoyed a wonderful week! Days at the pool or beach - very enjoyable. Dancing on the pool deck at night under the stars - awesome! Hope to be back again next year. Same time, same place, same friends!
I skipped school for the opportunity to stay at Casa del Sol and it was one of the better school skipping decisions I've made! Casa del Sol, or Heaven, as I call it is beyond paradise. There are few words to describe it that do it justice. I had a fantastic time with my family and given the chance would skip school again for it! Even my teachers understood when I emailed them a picture haha. Pictures can't capture the beauty of this place any better than words can describe it. i leave with a very heavy heart but cherish the time I was allowed to spend here. I thank everyone responsible for me being allowed to spend a couple days in heaven. I highly recommend star gazing. Few places anymore have a night time view like there is here! Back to oh so cold Michigan! :(
What a great house and beautiful island! We had a marvelous time! Loved the view from the upstairs veranda while drinking morning coffee - will be hard to replicate! (until we return that is!!!) We totally enjoyed ourselves!
Thank you for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home! Words cannot begin to describe the awe we were in when we arrived. St. John and Casa del Sol were the perfect setting for the perfect honeymoon! We were met by tropical storm Bertha on our first day here, which was an island attraction in itself and had spectacular weather everyday since. We saw sea turtles at Maho on our second day, ate at Vie's and went on a horseback ride up through the hills (highly recommend). Our favorite was Salt Pond Bay. We went later in the day and had the entire cove to ourselves. We loved the Banana Deck and Joes in Cruise Bay for everything from drinks to dinner to deserts! Our hearts, though still full of love, will leave here very heavy, but not without a massage by the pool! We will miss St. John and Casa del Sol, but will be surely be back!
My family of four plus my in laws rented Casa Del Sol in the brutal winter of 2015 and after a week in this magnificent house we felt like we had died and gone to heaven. We have rented other villas in Hawkesnest Bay and Peter Bay on St. John and they were great, but after suffering through the winter from hell we asked our villa advisor to find us a 4 bedroom house that would get lots of that beautiful St. John sunshine and be not more than 10 minutes from Cruz Bay. Kris, our villa expert at Caribbean Villas and Resorts highly recommended this home and it was spot on the best villa we have ever rented. The house looks stunning, with lots of gorgeous stonework and beautiful mahogany doors and windows. It was obvious that the owners love, love, love their home because it was just so perfect. This house is definitely a classy affair. The bedrooms gave us a lot of privacy and were quite elegant and very comfortable. The adults stayed in the upstairs bedrooms and our two boys stayed in the 2 bedrooms on the pool deck and everyone had lots of space to themselves, which is important for this extended family. The wet bar at the pool got a lot of use, maybe a bit too much, we fired up the grill every day and we loved the house so much that we spent 4 of our seven days at Casa just enjoying the warm sunshine and pool, the amazing views, gentle trade winds and each other, and of course, the poolside wet bar. As usual we spent too much time in the sun and got a bit too pink, so we hid under the covered deck for a day but still enjoyed being outside all day in a bikini on four of the coldest days of the year in Chicago. This was a magnificent house and an absolute dream of a vacation. Thank you so much Kris, St. John and Casa Del Sol and we’ll definitely be back next winter – same time, same place!
Casa Del Sol is located on the top row of villas in the exclusive neighborhood of Klein Bay. There are about fifteen upscale villas in Klein Bay, which is a snug cove that is part of Rendezvous Bay, a larger bay on St. John's Caribbean coast. Limited development of this area insures its unique beauty, privacy and peacefulness. Ditliff Point is the peninsula that curves south into the Caribbean and protects two beaches in Klein Bay that provide swimming and snorkeling close to home, with turquoise waters, brightly colored fish, sea fans and other sea life. A 5-15 minute swim or snorkel takes you to the little used white sand beach on Ditliff Point, or you can swim and snorkel at the tranquil pebble beach directly below you in Klein Bay. The restaurants and nightlife of Cruz Bay are a 10 minute drive on paved roads.
