Overview

About the property

New construction waterfront cabin on over 200' of beach.

Enjoy breathtaking views of Puget Sound, Mount Rainier, the Seattle skyline and the North Cascades from this cozy, two-story beach cabin.

This unique property -- Double Bluff Beach Club -- boasts 200 feet of no-bank waterfront on over three acres of beach. Meander 1/4 mile down a private drive and ascend stone stairs to this piece of paradise perched about the trees.

Soak in summer sun from a gorgeous, custom-built deck, or stroll along a sand and driftwood trail to the water's edge. On an enchanted evening, dine beneath the stars or head down to the fire pit to roast marshmallows, to tell stories and to sing songs around a campfire. Just outside the house is a partially covered patio complete with comfortable furniture, a barbecue grill, a dinner bell, a warm outdoor shower and lots of hooks to hang towels and gear from a memorable day at the beach.

Inside you'll find all the comforts of home coupled with unique Island charm. This top-to-bottom remodel is beautiful, bright, and EVERY room has a view! Curl up on the comfy couch with a good book, play board games around the coffee table or simply kick back, take a nap and relax.

The cabin features gleaming, original 1930's wood floors and a fully stocked kitchen/dining area with granite counter tops, bar stools and all-new stainless steel appliances. The family-friendly living room frames picture windows and just beyond it reside a 3/4 bathroom with a granite vanity, a linen closet and the main floor bedroom with a queen bed, new carpet, a built-in closet and that spectacular view!

Descend the spiral staircase to the bunk room. The kiddos will go crazy over two custom bunk beds and two built-in berths, each with its own storage area and night light. The kids' room is complete with puzzles, games and ample room to play. The lower level also features new carpet, a second bedroom with a queen bed and its own private entrance, and a full bath with an over-sized washer and dryer.

DBBC is located at Double Bluff Beach and County Park, a premier spot for outdoor water sports and activities including fishing, crabbing, clamming, kayaking, kiteboarding, skimboarding and paddleboarding. The cabin is minutes away from grocery shopping in Freeland and the Saturday Bayview Farmer's Market (late Apr-Oct). While you are here, be sure to visit Langley -- South Whidbey's charming, seaside village -- for strolling, shopping, whale watching and dining.

Whidbey Island is a gem, home to magical memories and often referred to as 'the shortest distance to far away.' Many have been inspired and rejuvenated by this place, and year after year they continue to return. Double Bluff Beach Club is no different. We think you will LOVE it here!

About Paul Tschetter

Two families purchased this home in late 2012 after meeting through a shared interest in kiteboarding. One of the families lives right here on Whidbey Island. The other family live in Seattle.

Paul Tschetter purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Paul Tschetter chose Freeland

Useless Bay is unmatched, and this property is amazing! The remodel was a serious labor of love, but it was well-worth the effort. We had a vision for this dusty old diamond in the rough; we believed it could be updated and enjoyed by future generations of families.

What makes this cabin unique

The cabin sits perched 40' up on Double Buff, but it still has direct waterfront access. The lot is 200' wide and over 3 acres. It's beautiful!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Amazing location

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing time! The location is amazing, perched on a bluff right above the beach. The house itself was recently updated and the layout was great for the 2 families in our party. Communication with Paul was very easy and he was proactive about it. We would definitely stay here again!

Owner's Response: Double Bluff Beach Club is great for couples and up to two families. The two couples can enjoy the privacy of two separate bedrooms while up to 4 kids can have a blast in their own bunk area. We are so glad families continue to enjoy the Double Bluff Beach club.

Amazing find!

  • 4 of 5

We had a great week at Double Bluff! The location is awesome, very central to all the fun places to go! I give it 4 stars, because the stairs inside are a bit tricky for elderly grandparents that came along, and it was over fifty stairs up to the front door. For our multi-generational family vacation, it was less than perfect, but still very enjoyable! As long as Grandma and Grandpa are able to negotiate them, we will be back!

Owner's Response: As we have explained in our VRBO listing and in numerous responses to guest reviews previously, there are a lot of stairs at our cabin. We like to say you have to work for the view. Again, from where you park your car to the front door is between 50 and 60 stairs. The cabin is amazing in so many ways but can be a little challenging for small children and more elderly guests.

Very nice.

  • 3 of 5

The weather could have been better but we enjoyed our stay. The children liked being so close to the beach. It wasn't warm enough to eat outside and there was no dining room table where we could all eat together but we managed.

Owner's Response: The cabin can be a great place to stay year round but it is cozy. Most people enjoy our deck furniture in the summer months for dining as the only dining option in the cabin is the kitchen island and bar stools. The views from either dining option (inside and outside) are fantastic.

Great location, good value

  • 5 of 5

After road tripping through the Olympic Peninsula, this was a great place to lay our heads for a couple of days. The home is updated with comfortable beds, nice furnishings, and a great kitchen. The views are as pictured -- there are no zoomed photos, the beach is right there!

The bunk room gave our teens a space of their own to relax and wifi it up while the adults each had bedrooms. Its a great place for a group to stay. The location is close to the grocery and right on the beach.

While we were there a few remodeling "to-dos" that had not been completed by contractors. I was told of this in advance by the owner and had no problem with missing paint on a couple of walls inside/out.

During our stay there the windows had no coverings. Not sure if this is due to the remodeling but with sunset happening later in PNW I was happy to have packed my sleep mask.

There is an interior spiral staircase to the dowstairs level (bunk room, bathroom #2, laundry and bedroom #2). If you have an elderly person or small child this could be a concern. And, there are 30+ steps to get the the front door on the exterior -- again, if elderly or small children this may be an issue. Not sure if there was a baby gate in the house to help corral small kiddos if needed.

The house is older and has a "beach house" smell to it but it fades into the background after a little while. We opened windows and enjoyed the cool air. My niece has asthma had no issues in the home.

If we are back in the area we would definitely stay here again and for longer. Its a great location and a good value.

WOW...enough said!

  • 5 of 5

Usually I am one of those people that park way down the road, schlep all my stuff way down the beach, and once I get situated, I look up and see a home on the cliffside and I think....Man, those people are so lucky to be staying there. This time I was "those people" and boy was it fun. The property is perfectly situated higher up than any Double Bluff beach house on the beach giving you fantastic views. Sunrises are down right spiritual as the skies turn the vibrant shades of reds and oranges and the magic doubles down as the colors reflect off the still morning Sound. The very long beach has an amazing low tide which enables you to walk way out looking for cool shells, rocks, and if your lucky, some beautiful and rare agates. The home inside is everything one needs. It's cozy, it's comfortable, and blessed me with a peaceful zen-like feel as its impossible to not enjoy the views from wherever you are. Within minutes of settling in I felt my shoulders lighten and easily left behind the stress of the day to day grind back at home. A perfectly spacious deck outside with these super comfortable and bendy patio chairs kept me outdoors most of the time allowing me to enjoy a number of books I always say I don't have time to read. A plethora of wildlife abounds. I saw so many birds including a woodpecker that seemed to pay me a visit at the same time daily and bald eagles filled the sky as if it were their version of a New York Traffic jam. I even saw and HEARD a group of whales swim by. I never realized you could hear them so clearly. I enjoyed being minutes from several coffee shops and a mouth watering bakery making some of the best darn cinnamon roles I have had in a long time. I accidentally found the farmers market minutes away and quickly lost time there as their booths were unique in the items they offered. Whidbey is such a long magical island and so fun to explore but at the end of the day, when its time to go out to dinner, its great being located a few minutes drive from a number of great dining options. I feel so blessed to have had the chance to stay there during the Memorial Day week. It now seems like it was one of those fantastic dreams you wake up from wishing it were real. OMG it was!
