Charming and Spacious Home with Gorgeous Lagoon View

Bedrooms 5
Space 3,300 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

About the property

5 Bedrooms + Media Room, 4 Bathrooms, 10-12 Sleeps

Located at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac across the street from the Kiawah marsh, my rental is situated on one of the most beautiful lots in the neighborhood with the most striking view of the lagoon. Windowed walls and deck access, found throughout the home, take full advantage of the view.

The open floor plan with plenty of shared living spaces is ideal for entertaining friends and family. A vaulted ceiling and lagoon view highlight the spacious living room. Adjacent to the main living area, a sitting room features access to the deck overlooking the lagoon.

A guest suite is at the first floor with a Queen size bed and a full bath. Fully equipped, the kitchen has a center island with seating and offers plenty of storage and preparation room. The adjacent sun room, with lagoon views and skylights, opens to the deck and gives the chef a beautiful space to relax while waiting for the proverbial pot to boil. The dinning room also opens to the media room. The media room has a full-size sleeper sofa which provides additional sleeping space.

The Upstairs, the master suite is a comfortable suite with King size bed and features a bathtub, dual vanities, sky-line, separate shower, and walk-in closest. There are additional two bedrooms and a bonus room upstairs. The two bedrooms (2nd & 3rd), one with King size bed and the other with Queen size bed, share a full bath. The 3rd bedroom connects to the bonus room, which has two Full size beds and separate full bath, ideal for kids/teenagers room. The laundry room is also upstairs.

My rental is about 1.2 mile/10 minutes bike ride to the beach.

About Jae Tang

We live in Columbia, SC and we have two daughters (Maggie and Bella). We love visiting Kiawah and Charleston. We have token Maggie bicycling, Kayaking, fishing, cracking and etc. at Kiawah, creating some lovely memories as a family. We hope you will enjoy your visit to Kiawah as much as we do!

Jae Tang purchased this house in 2012

Why Jae Tang chose Vanderhorst Plantation

We fell in love with Kiawah on our very first visit to the island in the summer of 2012, and we were very blessed to have the property purchased in the winter of 2012. The house was originally built in 1985 and has a lot of its unique characters. Although some area of the house needs improvements, and we have slowly made some upgrades, we love it as it was.

My husband and I picked out all the furniture and accessories for the house, and we really enjoyed the process of decorating this house. We plan to renovate kitchen and bathrooms as our budget allows.

What makes this house unique

You can grill at the deck while watching the alligator swimming around to say hi, and you can cast your line and catch some red fish, bream, crack... etc from the pond by the house, or you can ride to the beach or around the island.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our stay was fantastic!  We really had a great time catching up with old friends, and everyone had wonderful and positive comments about finding the perfect house and the perfect location for our stay.

We really appreciated the flexibility with earlier check-in and later check-out, it helped keep everyone relaxed.  I think the price point was perfect too.  If it had been much more we probably would not have booked, and for that price we felt the space was very accommodating for our sized group.

I know many had mentioned they would've loved to use the kayaks, that would be a great bonus if you were ever able to work that out to be allowable for your guests (I'm sure it's a liability issue) - or perhaps store them elsewhere to avoid temptation.  We ran the dishwasher the morning we left in order to put all the dishes away before leaving (as instructed), but there was only one dishwasher cleaner tablet left.  It's such a small detail, I'm sure it's an easy oversight, but just a head's up for the next guests so they don't have to hand wash all the dishes they use.  I'm glad that didn't have to be us!

Thank you so so much for you allowing us to stay at your home, it was such a pleasure and we'd book the same trip again in a heartbeat.

Gracious Hosts

  • 5 of 5

The house has some very nice features. The kitchen is well appointed, the dining room gives the feeling of being in the forest, and there are at least five different gathering/sitting areas. The hosts are very gracious and accommodating and I would recommend them to anyone. This is a nice house with nice landlords.

Family Holidays

  • 3 of 5

The location of the property is just perfect, the area is very nice sorounded by golf courses and wild beaches all amazing.

The property is very nice and spacious but in our opinion it needs a better maintanance, all the windows/glass doors were dirty, several inside and outdoors lights were not working, bed sheets were not ironed, the bbq was not clean.

We must say that the owner was very helpful, comunication was great and they were willing to fix everything during our stay but for us this did not work. Besides these details we had a wonderful stay and the place is highly recomended.

Owner's Response: Thank you for choosing our house for your Kiawah trip, and I’m sorry that our property didn’t fully meet your expectation. As I explained, we got hit with a terrible storm right before your arrival date, and unfortunately, we missed or failed to get everything addressed before you checked in. I wish you would have allowed me to make it right for you during your stay, but I certainly understand your feeling. I would have expected things to be in perfect order if I were you. Though VRBO doesn’t permit it, I really appreciate you offered to change the review rating to 4 Star after our communication. And I was very relieved and pleased to learn that, other than the issue mentioned above, you and your family had a fantastic stay at our house, and a wonderful visit to Kiawah. Thanks again for choosing our house, and come back to visit Kiawah soon!

Wonderful space for a large group to gather.

  • 4 of 5

We rented this place as one of two houses for a family reunion. Family members flowed between the two places. This space was wonderful in that it offered much open space which divided nicely into areas for different groups to gather with their interests. It became the preferred afternoon hangout for the youth able to move independently between spaces.

The kitchen is large, making it easy for several people to work in and maneuver around, and there are plenty of dishes for feeding a large group. The large table seats 10 easily and is a inviting spot for games and conversations while looking out on the trees and marsh.

The bedrooms were large and comfortable and there were plenty of bathrooms. Children loved all of the spaces for hide and seek and for separating into different activity groups.

Access to the beach was easy. There are a few bikes at the house and others are easily rented on Kiawah. Bikes are a preferable to walking as a way of going to the beach as the riding-generated breeze is cooling.

All in all it was a welcoming, inviting, and relaxing place to hold a large gathering.

Amazing Wedding Weekend Headquarters!!!!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed at this gorgeous property for 5 nights during my wedding weekend on the Island. My wedding was at Osprey Point Clubhouse and it was a wonderful central location for incoming family to stop by and receive welcome bags, snacks, and to just visit in between wedding activities. 10 of us stayed at the house very comfortable, however using the house and deck at one point we comfortably fed 40 family members brunch. The house is absolutely gorgeous with lots of natural light on the first floor and the owners are very communicative. We found the house clean and it only needs a few minor updates to make it a true 5 star palace. However, we had no complaints and everyone raved about how comfortable the beds were. We will definitely use the residence again during the summer. And you simply cannot beat the lagoon view!

A few things to note:

The Kiawah shuttle was not keen on picking us up from the house without a bit of pushing. Apparently they dont' necessarily serve privately owned homes-so keep that in mind when planning on island transportation
