Experience true North Shore living at this North Shore cottage steps away from Sharks Cove, Foodland, Waimea Beach and Keiki Beach. Home is conveniently located on Kamehameha highway and a long driveway sets you back behind another home limiting any noise from passing vehicles. Turtle Bay resort is 5 miles to the North and Haleiwa town is 5 miles South. Whether you are headed to Oahu for the incredible surf, whale watching, destination wedding or to just kick back this cottage is the perfect host.
The cottage is up a driveway off the Kami Highway tucked behind another house and screened by palms which removes it from a lot of the noise of the busy main drag. There's a private back garden with BBQ which is a nice zone but no lanai to enjoy morning coffee or evening cocktails on. It was a lovely quiet little oasis with all the food trucks, great beaches and Foodland mere minutes on foot. We were two moms and two teen daughters plus their friend. The beds were fairly comfortable and the couch was cozy. Open windows and fans or the AC do the trick to cool the bedrooms for sleeping. The decor is cute - beach chic - though the housekeepers could do a better job dusting and vacuuming beyond the middle of the rooms as well as using a bit more elbow-grease cleaning bathtub and kitchen counters though our cleanliness expectations are pretty high so maybe most people wouldn't be bothered on a beach holiday. My favourite daily ritual was using the outdoor shower - not just for the enjoyable experience but as a necessity as one can imagine with 5 women sharing one bathroom! The owners are very accommodating and friendly, even replacing mouldy, outdoor, cushioned garden chairs with new more practical ones after I mentioned the state of the cushions. There's beach towels, snorkelling gear, beach umbrellas and two (a bit haggard) beach cruisers for guests to use.
Waimea Bay is the best beach with glorious swimming when the surf's not up. It was fun to watch surf competitions at Pipeline. The food trucks are plentiful and their food really good. Early morning walks, jogs and beach workouts were lovely right across the highway along the bike path. Hale'iwa is an easy drive (when traffic is moving...) and a fun historic town to explore, pick up souvenirs, check out the new more hip boutiques, have lunch or take in the 'scene' - best sushi I've had in a long time was at Banzai Sushi, Uncle Bo's is a good spot too (food good, nice bar) and The Beet Box is amazing for delicious and healthy, mostly vegetarian, food. And of course grabbing late morning coffee and food at The Coffee Gallery was a favourite activity too.
I would definitely recommend this cute, beach cottage as a place to stay on the North Shore. It's easy, quiet comfortable and welcoming.
This was our second Thanksgiving spent at the Cottage and it is almost beginning to feel like our home away from home. Even Amos and Nicola seem like family now! They have always been so warm and friendly and have made sure that our stay at Sharks Cove Beach Cottage is comfortable and convenient. When they discovered that the oven was not working, they came with a new one on the weekend so that none of our holiday cooking would be interrupted (unfortunately, as I was hoping to get out of baking all the pies for our friends' Thanksgiving feast). The pies were delicious -I also highly recommend using the new oven.
Thanks, again, Nicola and Amos for making us feel at home and adding to our special holiday. See you soon!
We stayed at sharks cove cottage for 2 weeks. Amos meet us when we arrived and showed us around the place, he was lovely. Everything you could ask for was at our finger tips. After sight seeing all day we would go down and snorkel in the cove then back for a shower and a stroll down the road for a wonderful meal at the truck shops or to the shop to pick up supplies. Could not ask for a better place to relax and enjoy the north shore Oahu. Thank you Amos and Nicola we would recommend you cottage in a heart beat. Heather,Wayne, sue and Judy. I rented this lovely home last week and loved it. We were 6 adults for a family reunion and it fit our needs perfectly. This was my first time renting with VRBO and I will do it again. Amos was accessible and friendly. The house is bigger than I had imagined from the photos. It has absolutely everything you need and more. My one surprise was that when it was advertised as having AC I had assumed this meant central AC and it really only has 2 window ACs in 2 of the 3 bedrooms which certainly can't cool the entire home. We happened to be there at an exceptionally hot time so this was a bit challenging but ordinarily I wouldn't think you would even need the AC with all the ocean breezes. I consider this my "fault" and a lesson learned when I hunt for homes again in the future. Of course, when I return to Oahu I will just rent here since it is still a 5 star for us despite the heat. Probably just won't go in July😄.
We have just returned from 9 wonderful nights staying at Sharks Cove Cottage and would highly recommend it. We had four adults and two children (1 and 5 years old) and the house was perfect for all of us. The house offers all the conveniences you could hope for with the washer and dryer and other appliances, plus the added bonus of the bikes and beach gear. We felt the size and decor of the house was even better than the photos showed. We spent many an afternoon in the shade of the yard and ate all our meals in the cool of the lanai. We loved the location and tried all the local food trucks (we couldn't pick a favorite as they were all so good). We did lots of snorkeling at Sharks Cove and swimming/boogie boarding at Three Tables (both in easy walking distance of the house). We rode bikes to Banzai Pipeline, Sunset Beach and Waimea Beach. We hope to return to the house one day and for now have amazing memories of our North Shore holiday. Mahalo Amos and Nicola!
This review is quite late, we stayed in the cottage in the fall of 2013 when it was a newer rental (I am a procrastinator, what can I say). My family of five and my mother enjoyed this house immensely. The screened in lanai was probably our favorite feature, and one that is hard to come by. It allowed for outdoor dining after dark without visits from curious insects-the kids even considered sleeping out there. I grew up just down the street from this property. This trip was the first time I had been home in 13 years, so I was exceptionally picky about our experience. I spent countless hours scouring VRBO (even considered renting my old home!) before settling on this cottage. It had everything we wanted--a short walk to the bike path (like no other bike path ever-it gives you easy access on bike or foot to miles of beautiful beaches while being a beautiful tropical experience itself--I rode it with the mayor of Honolulu on opening day more years ago than I care to count! being near it was a must for our trip), the BEST beaches on the island, the gloriousness that is Shark's Cove, my old elementary school (Sunset Beach Elem) which has an adorable farmer's market on Saturdays, I could go on and on about the location. The North Shore just rocks. But you can get the location in hundreds of other rentals. This one just felt good. It was stocked with everything we needed, the owners were awesome about responding promptly, there was a welcome gift waiting for us, the property felt private and quiet despite having nearby neighbors, and--drumroll please--not a single insect to be seen inside (this was a big deal to me) though we were visited nightly by a friendly gecko. It was very hard to leave. My only warning would be to families of young kids, the crosswalk to get across the Kam Hwy to the beaches is a ways down the road (4-5 min walk with kids) and jaywalking can be tough, especially on the weekends (drivers are usually super nice about stopping, there are just SO MANY cars on busy beach days it can take awhile to cross). The only thing that would make this house better would be direct beach access--but then it wouldn't be such a good price! Oh, and while it's always nice to have a car when staying that far from the airport, Oahu's excellent bus system makes being carless totally doable-especially when your house is walking distance to beaches and groceries.
