The Green Duck (formerly Yellow Finch House - before being painted green in '14) is simply an easy house to be in. A simple 1 bedroom house, with a sunroom (sleeper sofa pulls out to a Queen size bed for extra sleeping) ,a full kitchen and living room area with a small working bathroom (standup shower only). The house is equipped with washer and dryer! We like to keep all the screened windows open all summer and let the breeze keep the house cool, but there is an option for AC in the bedroom if you absolutely need it ($5/day option - just leave the cash on the table when you leave if you use it). There is working WIFI, DVD system, and over Dish Network TV channels, but save that for a rainy day because you'll be spending most of your time outside on the deck or down on the beach and/or swimming dock. There are 2 brand new kayaks for your use as well as some extra life jackets and inflatables. Plenty of deck chairs for sitting or laying out in the sun. A great place for bird watching and fishing right off the dock! A raised metal fire pit for those late night bonfires! This property is unique as we get both Sunrise on the lake and sunset over the hills of Fox Run Winery! One last thing - a charming and historic train runs next to the house. The train seems to have no set schedule, but seems to run very infrequently. Sometimes not coming for days on end and other times passing by up to 3 times in one day. We see this as part of the charm of the place- the train goes slow and the conductor will even sound the whistle for you if you wave at the train! All in all - this is the perfect house for a quiet, get-a-way - full of fishing, swimming, laying around, working on your new book, or a just a romantic rural experience! Ideal for 2 people, but can sleep up to 4 altogether. Oh, and if it gets too quiet - Historic Downtown Geneva is a 15 minute drive. There you can find gift shops, a cinema, The Smith Opera House, grocery stores, and a lakefront park. If none of that suits you, please feel free to use any or all of our 3 bicycles for a joy ride around our area - right in the heart of Amish Country!

*** This is a year round rental. We spent last winter here and made some great memories. I must say the place is stunning during all four seasons. We do ask the guests DO NOT use the wood stove (for safety reasons). The house is well insulated. There is electric heat (Thermostat), as well as some very advanced, high-end space heaters for the areas that don't heat up as well. If you would like to see some photos of the place in winter time, just ask and I will email them to you.

About jonathan pierce

I grew up in the finger lakes district and spent many memorable summers on Seneca Lake at my Grandfather's cabin. I moved away for work to Manhattan and after years of hard work, I was able to purchase my own cabin on the same lake as my grandfather - my own dream come true- my own paradise. Sadly, my work requires me to travel almost constantly, so I am excited to share this slice of heaven with you!

jonathan pierce purchased this house in 2012

Why jonathan pierce chose Keuka Lake

I wanted to have a home on Seneca Lake, simply for nostalgic reasons. I missed those perfect quiet summers I spent up here as a kid - and when I am here - I do feel like a kid again. You have to stay here to really grasp what I'm saying! Also, living in Manhattan has really made me crave serenity. Here, you are literally surrounded by nature.

What makes this house unique

Incredible lake views, private 165 ft. beach, private road to house (shared with only two neighbors), the house is on the Finger Lakes Wine Trail. The backyard is flush with Fox Run's Riesling grape vines (pictured)! There is a working refrigerator in the boat house , so you don't have to leave the beach to enjoy a cold beer or some crisp white wine in the sun!

Peaceful, relaxing, close to hip little towns, breathtaking scenery

  • 5 of 5

We had the BEST time at the Green Duck! The weather was a bit chilly, but it was the same in Ohio when we departed for FLX so we went with it. We came for our honeymoon, and after 2 solid weeks of wedding insanity, this peaceful place was exactly what we needed to unwind and regroup. The house is well equipped with quality items, and the beds were both extremely comfortable.....this coming from 2 people that are a bit whacky about mattress quality! The house is about 8 Minutes to Penn Yan, and about 15 Minutes (probably less) to Geneva. Both neat towns with tasty dining options. The Penn Yan diner is a must, and definitely check out The Spotted Duck-and eat your custard out back while checking out the duck farm. We loved that the location of the house allowed us to see an abundance of places the Finger Lakes has to offer. So many places within an hour drive! We went to Hammondsport, Watkins Glen, Penn Yan, Geneva, and took the scenic route home, which went around Keuka Lake, and happened to be a shorter drive back to Ohio. We cannot say enough good things about this place and can't wait to plan our next trip to FLX with our pups and family. The Green Duck will always have a special place in our hearts!

This cottage was a hit! Relaxing, peaceful, well equipped.. Close to many wineries.

  • 5 of 5

We could not have imagined how much influence this cottage had on our vacation. We needed nothing but our clothes and food. The mid-level deck with its table and chairs was my favorite spot for reading. The waves lapping on the beach lulled us to sleep at night and when sitting on the upper deck the sound enhanced the relaxing atmosphere. If the train didn't come by....I was a little disappointed. 😉 There is no doubt we will be back!

beautiful cabin and property-much needed peace and calm

  • 5 of 5

The house, property and lake were wonderful! When we were there the train did go by several times every day and most nights at least once, but it really wasn't a big deal (and we are really light sleepers). Jonathan was great to work with and very helpful before and during our stay. If we ever get the chance we would definitely return to The Green Duck.

Great place with awesome waterfront access.

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful 4 days at the Green Duck cabin. The large dock with access to the kayaks were a hit and we had bonfires which made for wonderful evenings. The winery across the street was a bonus. Other than the 5 trains that passed by (and 2 in the middle of the night!) the place was terrific and owner Jonathan Pierce was top notch. We would definitely go back if opportunity arises.
