Big house with lots of space
Sunset Dune was a perfect spot for our stay. The kitchen is nice and open. It was so nice to have 2 living Rooms. The living Room upstairs was great for the kids to play Ping Pong, while the adults could visit on the many level.
Coming back for sure.
Fun Family Time
Big house just perfect for large family gathering. Only two negatives, no ocean view, but we knew this going in so we cant blame that on the house but the beds were really uncomfortable. All adults had a hard time sleeping and we were all a little grateful when our 5 nights were at an end. All in all we did enjoy our stay and were grateful to find a house large enough to hold our family. We loved the area, it was new to us as we have always been much further south where it is much busier so the small town quiet atmosphere was really refreshing. We really did have a great time.
The house was very nice looking. Good parking. Nice deck upstairs. Great
We enjoyed the house. The huge upstairs was perfect for the kids to play and watch TV or use their xbox. The kitchen had all the utensils needed for what we cooked. I liked the heater in the master bathroom. Loved the hot tub. The ice machine wasn't working in the refrigerator so we had to go get ice. I told the owner. There is a surround wound system that needs hooking up. That would increase the enjoyment of watching TV. Just a suggestion.
We had a wonderful time. Room for everyone. Loved the hot tub and ping pong table!!
A few caveats for this lovely space
This was our 3rd time at Sunset Dunes. We love it for our extended family. The house has a smart layout that works well for our 10+/- sized group. Lots of break out spaces so you don't feel confined. Generous kitchen and pantry area, hot tub is hot, home is clean upon arrival. This is our 3rd time staying here because we love that the pingpong table is centrally located instead of being exiled to the garage. There was sufficient seating around the dining table for 10.
I downgraded the rating because of some maintenance issues. A bedroom window shade had a huge gash across it, 1/2 of the hot tub jets still broken, ice machine and water line in the fridge are broken, mattress pad missing, night light in master bathroom & misc other light bulbs out, no bath soap in any shower and only 2 washcloths in the whole house. As noted in previous reviews, management is helpful, but who wants to keep calling the manager?!
Also, the laundry policy will keep you on your toes the night before you leave. Getting all the towels washed, dried and put away made our last 12 hours hectic. I suggest bringing your own towels for bath and kitchen, if you live locally. That will alleviate the last minute added laundry stress as you try to get out by 11am.
If temps are hovering around 30, take care with the exterior steps. My husband fell down them as they were slippery and invisibly icy. There is no tread on them. There is a ramp access, but it too can be slippery in inclement weather.
We love this house and returned, despite the cautions in other reviews. I hope you will give it a try and prepare to enjoy this wonderful space. Just know what to bring/expect. It's more like using a relative's house with a few quirks. Oh, and have the manager's phone # on hand.
Do Not Come with High Expectations
While livable, the house does not appear to get much TLC. Only the bare minimum seems put forth for overall cleanliness and general maintenance. Couch upstairs had a 3-foot slit across the back. Unrepaired wall dings evident in several locations. Half the jets on the hot tub don’t work. Tub and sink drains in 2 of the 3 bathrooms were clogged. Outdoor railings covered with cobwebs, mold present in the slider door jamb upstairs. Numerous little things like no trash bags, broken can-opener. The entire place was in serious need of a deep cleaning inside and out.
Look for the opening at the base of Maxwell Mountain that takes you to Lost Boy Beach on the other side! It’s a great place to find agates and seashells.
The Cape Meares Lighthouse and the Octopus Tree is just a mile outside of town. There are hiking trails around the park that go down to Cape Meares beach, just a couple of blocks away.
