About Jane Harrison
We're an outdoor family whose idea of a great vacation revolves around water, woods and trails. This little log cabin gets us right on the river, where we enjoy wading, fishing, paddling or just lying out on a rock and soaking up the sun. In winter, the babbling water outside and crackling of the logs in the fireplace create a cozy setting for a good read or a great conversation!
Why Jane Harrison chose Ellijay
Here, we get the feel of a more relaxing era. It is a place where the timeless flow of the water seems to wash away the stresses of the modern world and every day problems get lost in the woods.
What makes this Cabin unique
The cabin is in a rural, wooded environment, not in a mini-city of nearby river homes with noisy occupants. It's truly a rustic getaway by the river.

Quaint, quiet, and peaceful place. Love the sound of the Cartecay.
We had a very nice week at this cottage. It's very secluded and restful. Comfortable bed, and nicely equipped. Would stay again.
I was in Ellijay as a vendor for a festival and rented this little cabin for 3 nights as an alternative to a hotel. What a great call! After a long day talking to people and selling pottery from my booth, I could not have been more appreciative of the tranquil setting as I enjoyed a glass of wine on the screened in porch by the rushing stream. And it was a very nice surprised how comfortable the bed was after those long days! That said, it was a rough start to the cabin. I arrived after dark (deep into the woods, it is pitch black with even the stars obstructed by the trees). And I had the additional misfortune of arriving on a rainy spring day. Arriving in the pitch dark with no lighting whatsoever near the cabin, I opened the door of my van into 2" deep mudpuddle that defined the lower 100 square feet of the driveway. If I backed the van out of the mud, I was so far away from the door that I had no light to navigate opening the lockbox.
So back into the mud because my headlights were the only source of light. I tried the flashlight on my phone but could not position it correctly while my hands attempted the lockbox. With no gravel the last 10 feet of the driveway and trees tightly lining the edges of the drive, there was no avoiding the muck. I had to pull my car back into it and step out into it. I did not come here to hike - I came for a festival. I was wearing the only pair of shoes I had brought and they were soaked with mud. This was a 30 minute fiasco and a fairly miserable start to what could be solved with basic maintenance. Even in daylight, there would be no avoiding the mud unless a guest literally walked through the woods toward the creek. So, please add gravel and ideally, a motion sensor light. Deep in the backwoods of Georgia, it does not feel particularly safe to exit your vehicle in complete darkness and walk up to a cabin you have never been to. The only other issue is the Teflon skillets are very heavily scratched and truly need to be replaced. Otherwise, the cabin overall is lovely . . . my issues were maintenance related.
Lovely cabin on river, private and tranquil
A great place to relax. We spent 2 months at the little cabin on the river. We spent alot of time enjoying the screened porch, rocking, reading and listening to the calming sounds of the river, literally feet from the cabin. There is easy access to the local area for everything you may need (groceries, antiques, thrift shops, road side vendors, restaurants and absolutely beautiful parks). It was a pleasure working with Jane. It is a lovely little cabin, small but perfect for an enjoyable, private and relaxing stay.
What a quite place to stay. The river running and even their was a chance of snow. now there you go.
Exactly what we wanted and needed!
We loved this cabin. It was clean and spacious and peaceful. There was plenty of room for our family of 4 to unpack and stretch out and get away from one another after being in a car for 1100 miles. :) We are grateful for everything this place had to offer for us for our holiday/family reunion. If we ever go to that area again, this is the place we are staying at!
loved it! it was small, quaint and rigth on the river! Will be here again! Unbelievably close to river!
The scenic Cartecay River flows through rural North Georgia east of the charming small town of Ellijay. The Cartecay draws kayakers and canoeists, anglers, and summer time 'tubers' to her mostly calm waters. En route to the cabin, guests often stop in Ellijay's 'Apple Alley' to buy fresh apples, peaches, and other seasonal produce. The Georgia Apple Festival, 2nd and 3rd weekends in October, is one of the Southeast's largest craft fairs, attracting thousands of tourists both weekends. Fall tourists also enjoy scenic drives 'leaf looking' in the Georgia mountains. Our cabin is located about 20 minutes from the Southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail at Springer Mountain and is close to 3 game management areas where hunters seek deer, turkey, wild hogs and small game in season. Amicalola Falls State Park, about 20 minutes away, showcases one of the southeast's highest waterfalls in a well-maintained trail system. Numerous hiking and mountain bike trails give the outdoor person both challenging and easy perspectives on the Georgia mountains. Carter's Lake, Fort Mountain State Park, and Lake Blue Ridge are all about a half-hour away. Unique restaurants, antique and craft shops, and traditional stores for all your vacation needs are just 15 minutes away in Ellijay. The Great Smoky Mountain Railroad stops in Blue Ridge, a vibrant mountain town 20 minutes up Ga. 515.
