About the property

2-bedroom, 1 Bath, Large Screened In Porch 15 Feet From Water's Edge!

Cozy cabin 15 feet from water's edge on the Cartecay River has wide screened-in deck, massive wood-burning rock fireplace and all wood floors. 2 Bedroom, 1 full bath log home sleeps 6 in 1 queen, 2 twin trundle beds. Cable TV, wireless internet, central heat & air bring modern amenities to a place that harkens back to a by-gone era, waiting for you by the river.

Prepare your favorite vacation meals in our fully equipped kitchen or grill up your specialties to serve al fresco on the deck or at the kitchen table. Relax on the deck and watch the river run over rocks just beyond the screen door. Recline in the master bedroom to the sound and view of the gently shoaling water. Wade on in to cool off in summer. Cast a line from the bank, just outside the deck. Relax by the fireplace and hear the crackle of wood logs in winter. Head out to the fire ring to roast hotdogs or toast marshmallows.

Venture out for a hike on the Appalachian Trail, a mountain bike adventure nearby, a ride down the river in a canoe, kayak or inner tube, or a visit to an Ellijay orchard. Or just stay put, mesmerized by the sight and sound of the river.

Get close to nature and those you love this season in our Little Log Cabin on the Cartecay.

About Jane Harrison

We're an outdoor family whose idea of a great vacation revolves around water, woods and trails. This little log cabin gets us right on the river, where we enjoy wading, fishing, paddling or just lying out on a rock and soaking up the sun. In winter, the babbling water outside and crackling of the logs in the fireplace create a cozy setting for a good read or a great conversation!

Why Jane Harrison chose Northwest High Country

Here, we get the feel of a more relaxing era. It is a place where the timeless flow of the water seems to wash away the stresses of the modern world and every day problems get lost in the woods.

What makes this cabin unique

The cabin is in a rural, wooded environment, not in a mini-city of nearby river homes with noisy occupants. It's truly a rustic getaway by the river.

Overall experience was a 4out of 5

  • 4 of 5

I had a great time at the rental, everything was clean and orderly. Love the coziness of the cabin and the proximity to the river. I will go there again. The only concern I had was the road access leading to the cabin. My Honda Accord got stuck twice and it was difficult getting out of the cabin due to the road erosion. I will rate the experience a 4out of 5.

Owner's Response: The road has been resurfaced and is again easy to travel. I'm sorry the guest had difficulties on the 10-foot section that had been damaged by snow and ice melt in January. It is now easily driven in any type of vehicle.

Quiet and serene. Great little getaway and right on the river.

  • 4 of 5

We had a relaxing stay with quality family time. Cabin is nice but housekeeping could be improved mostly due to it being a pet friendly rental. All was great with the exception of the pet odor. Owners are exceptionally nice and very helpful. I'm certain they would have sent housekeeping over had I called them, but I cleaned some myself for we had a baby crawling around. If you are accustomed to indoor pets this is a great place.

Owner's Response: We have found pet owners to be very responsible, leaving not even a trace or scent that their pet stayed at the house. We have rarely had a problem with pets on the property. A Pet Addendum details our expectations and guests follow it. I (the manager) cleaned the cabin prior to this guest's visit and did not detect any evidence that a pet had ever stayed there. However, I would have gladly responded to remedy whatever situation she encountered. We have an excellent cleaning crew and I often clean the cabin myself so I can spot check the premises. The rental contract requests guests to contact the manager with any sign of uncleanliness or dissatisfaction. I always respond quickly to remedy whatever problem exists. I'm sorry this guest did not contact me.

Good relaxing time

  • 4 of 5

We had a very relaxing time at the cabin. It was clean but needed a new shower curtain an dust bunnies removed. The road to the cabin is straight down and very rough. We weren't aware of this before renting, people with cars will have a hard time getting in and out especially small cars.

Owner's Response: A new shower curtain was hung and floors under beds were thoroughly dusted just after this guest's departure. No 4-wheel drive vehicle is necessary on the 1-mile gravel road, which is well-maintained and relatively flat except for one 10-foot hill easily traveled recently by a Kia sub-compact car, Honda Accord, and mini-van. Guests in these vehicles were asked about their entrance and exit; they reported no difficulties in small cars or a multi-passenger van without 4-wheel drive.

Nice place

We had a nice weekend at the cabin.

We found the cabin clean and with all the necessary domestic utensils.

The river right behind the window is really very good.

The scenic Cartecay River flows through rural North Georgia east of the charming small town of Ellijay. The Cartecay draws kayakers and canoeists, anglers, and summer time 'tubers' to her mostly calm waters. En route to the cabin, guests often stop in Ellijay's 'Apple Alley' to buy fresh apples, peaches, and other seasonal produce. The Georgia Apple Festival, 2nd and 3rd weekends in October, is one of the Southeast's largest craft fairs, attracting thousands of tourists both weekends. Fall tourists also enjoy scenic drives 'leaf looking' in the Georgia mountains. Our cabin is located about 20 minutes from the Southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail at Springer Mountain and is close to 3 game management areas where hunters seek deer, turkey, wild hogs and small game in season. Amicalola Falls State Park, about 20 minutes away, showcases one of the southeast's highest waterfalls in a well-maintained trail system. Numerous hiking and mountain bike trails give the outdoor person both challenging and easy perspectives on the Georgia mountains. Carter's Lake, Fort Mountain State Park, and Lake Blue Ridge are all about a half-hour away. Unique restaurants, antique and craft shops, and traditional stores for all your vacation needs are just 15 minutes away in Ellijay. The Great Smoky Mountain Railroad stops in Blue Ridge, a vibrant mountain town 20 minutes up Ga. 515.
