great place to stay
The house was beautiful and immaculate. Great location for watching birds and boats go by, up and down the river.
The host was courteous and helpful.
It doesn't get any better than the Cedar Shack
From the moment we arrived we loved the place. Right from our initial walk around tour, where we were pleasantly surprised by the owners thoughtful house warming gifts to our final walk thru when we were leaving...we absolutely loved this place. We met the owners several times during our stay and they are the best. All of our needs and concerns were either anticipated before hand or handled ASAP. The Cedar Shack has it all, including a commercial ice machine and draft beer system ! While the house itself is well appointed and very clean, the key here is location, and I can't imagine a better one. The house and decks are designed to take advantage of the corner location on the river. Views upstream, views downstream and views up otter creek, Amazing. You can spend all day watching the boat traffic and you also have a birds eye view of nesting herons and nesting osprey. Manatees and otters swim by the dock. Fishing from the lower dock every morning, great for bullheads, skate, snapper and a few fish I didn't know. Afternoon sun on the upper dock and if its to hot you can go below by the hot tub and hang out in the shade. Evenings on the deck by the house having cocktails and playing cards. Each place with a view. I don't want to neglect the house, like I said very well appointed and clean. Both bedrooms have sliding glass doors to the deck and again great views. We left the curtains open so we could watch the shrimp and crab boats going out each morning. The kitchen is well stocked and has everything you need. Even though you may never want to leave the Cedar Shack with its quiet secluded location, it is close to bars, restaurants, shopping and sightseeing. While looking at the guestbook we saw a lot of repeat customers, after staying there I know why. Our Thanks to the owners for sharing their beautiful house with us.
Great vacation spot, best view on the river!
Can walk to two cool restaurant/bars, short drives to many other fun attractions. Thanks!
Comfort and Beauty on Florida's Nature Coast
We have returned four times to this lovely spot on the Homosassa River. It is the perfect location to relax after a day of exploration on the water or on the links of nearby golf courses. Ideal for all ages!
Life on the River
What a wonderful place to watch life unfold on the river. Birds, manatees, fish, otter, Shrimp boats, fishermen, nature lovers. This house is extremely well stocked with a great split floor plan. The owners is most responsive to all our needs. We felt so pampered.
Again, another fantastic vacation in Florida! Everything we could want/need and more in this rental. The BEST spot on the river, the view and sunsets are so special each and every night! Great for people watching on their kayaks and boats. Saw a few dolphins and got 'bumped' by a couple manatees on our kayaking trips, must have startled them awake?! Thank you David for offering your home to us, truly love going there each year.
Old Homosassa is a fishing village and a tourist area, with artist's shops, pottery, glass works, fresh seafood restaurant within short walking distance. The house is on the property of the Old Homosassa Cedar Mill where pencils were made 100 years ago. At low tide you can walk along the water and pick up pieces of old cedar pencils. There are festivals all year long in the area from Manatee Festival to Shrimpapalooza. The Christmas Boat Parade goes right by the house on the Saturday before Christmas. Fishing Tournaments begin just two blocks away, You may bring your boat and keep it on the boat lift.
