Volcano house description

Lava Tube Hale has been a magical retreat for adventurers seeking to experience and explore the Volcano area

After hiking one of the 150 trails the park has to offer nothing hits the spot like a soak in the hot tub/whirlpool under the covered lanai. Situated in the rain forest the lanai and house are very private with no neighbor in sight. Guests have the option of showering inside or in the outside shower under the stars.

Lave Tube Hale (house) is well appointed with full kitchen for cooking or reheating meals from one of the many wonderful restaurants in Volcano Village just minutes away. We provide you with bottled water, coffee, teas and cocoa. When you arrive there will be an island welcome basket with bananas, papayas and a pineapple. To make is easy to slice your Pineapple we even have a Pineapple Slicer

Kick back, read or lounge by the fireplace. All are encouraged in the living room as well as playing board games with family and friends. Music/CDS and books are here to enjoy. Complementary WIFI is available for those who wish to keep up with social networking. A good old fashion telephone also is available for local calls.

The guest room has two twin beds, TV with DVD player and movies. The master bedroom has a queen bed with a thick memory foam pad to ensure the most restful sleep, plenty of comfortable bedding and linens throughout.

Kids and adults enjoy exploring the backyard rainforest complete with its very own lava tube!

Why Bernadette Boteilho chose Volcano

Michael and Kerry fell in love with the magic of Volcano and the rainforest so much that they bought this hale. They use it as a place to enjoy nature with family and friends. This special get-away spot is like nowhere else on earth and has been a retreat for them, as well as for folks from all around the world. We hope you´ll find some time to experience this incredible place in Volcano, home of Pele, and share some highlights about your stay at Lava Tube Hale with us. Aloha pumehana!

Guestbook comments from the manager

This enchanted cottage helped us enjoy a perfect family holiday and volcano experience. Our grandchildren (age 8 & 10) loved the jungle and the lava tube—and everything else about our visit.

Excellent place to stay while visiting Hawaiian Volcanoes.

The house was very comfortable and well appointed. The hot tub helped get the aches out of my legs after hiking in the park all day. It is a short 5 minute drive to the entrance of the park. The green is private and lit at night for a lovely view from the hot tub. Inside the house, you will have everything you need for your stay - comfy beds, nice towels, fresh fruit, tea and coffee, kitchen utensils for basic meals. We will definitely return if we can!

Would recommend in a heartbeat!

We stayed at Lava Tube Hale as our lodging on the Big Island for the first part of our honeymoon (we island hopped). It was the perfect way to begin our trip!! The house was super clean and well stocked with towels, cookware, etc. Ms. Boteilho knew it was our honeymoon and left a sweet welcome note along with some treats. It really made us feel loved & the epitome of the Hawaiian hospitality. What a cool way to start our honeymoon!

The hot tub worked well. The patio and table/chairs where the hot tub is located is well done. The house felt very secluded, which we loved. We could not see the neighbors due to the thick foliage surrounding the house. There were various notes on the refrigerator with recommendations of things to do or see which came in handy. We hiked, went the farmers market, saw the lava flow, had dinner out and also cooked in. There is a coffee pot, tea kettle, pots & pans, some individually wrapped butter in the refrigerator (which was VERY helpful), salt, utensils, a water jug with drinking water, and a hairdryer. The shower head is mounted high, which is good for taller people, and sprays well. There is one tv in the two twin bed bedroom; we didn't find this an issue at all - I only watched TV while my wife was getting ready for our evening out and I don't think she even noticed only having one until I mentioned it. A completely personal preference to note is that the larger bed has a memory foam mattress/topper.

Did I mention the house was super clean and secluded? We both really enjoyed our stay here and would highly recommend this place to anyone in the future and if we return, we would stay here again.

Amazing volcano retreat

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had an amazing stay at the Lava Tube Hale. When we arrived, it had been raining and the gate had been left open so we wouldn't need to get out. We immediately went to jump in the hot tub, which was already heated and waiting for us! The display of delicious fruit, pancake mix, and local sweet bread was a treat, as well as the multiple fresh flower arrangement. This was the perfect place for us to start and end our days hiking to see lava and throughout the park. The hot tub is a must after hiking all day. We loved our stay and how close it was to the park and all the restaurants. Thanks again!

Being so close to Volcano National Park made night viewing of the Lava Lake easy. Beautiful & clean

Excellent location with all the comforts of home. Tasty fresh fruits, yummy local bread, and other goodies greeted us. Fresh anthurium flowers were welcoming in the spotless home. The beds were comfy and had plenty of blankets for the chilly quiet nights. The gas stove and hot tub took the chill off. Beautiful Hawaiian Hale. We loved our stay.

We had an amazing four nights at this beautiful little house. It was everything we had hoped it would be and more. So lovely coming back to the hot tub after days of hiking, it was so peaceful.

Beautiful, comfortable home

  • 5 of 5

My fiancee and I stay here for three nights in October 2016 and had a wonderful stay. The home is easy to find and was conveniently located near Volcano National Park (~5-10 minute drive). We made most of our meals while there, and the kitchen was well stocked and easy to work in. Our favorite part was sitting outside on the covered deck to eat meals or read while it was raining. Between the beautiful location, the hot tub, and the fireplace, the house was exactly what we needed for a few days to unwind. Thank you again for the wonderful, welcoming stay - I would absolutely recommend/try to stay here again the next time we're on the Big Island!
