About David Friedell

We first came to this land in 1976 when we built a small Summer cabin. As our family grew so did the house. Now we are retired and live here all year round. Our place is not very far from the cottage, so we are nearby if you need us. Most days you will find Carolyn working in her garden, and David is usually building something

David Friedell purchased this cottage in 2013

Why David Friedell chose Acadia

Deer Isle is a fishing community most of the year. Our fishermen and women land more lobsters here than anywhere in the State. Lots, of boats, sometimes lots of sun and blue water, sometimes our famous fog. Always plenty of lobsters to eat, boats to see, seagulls to watch and woods to be explored. For over a hundred years, this land has been host to friendly people who love this place. It smells like the woods and the sea, and it sounds just like what it is. A quiet country road.

What makes this cottage unique

Easy access is a great benefit at Pinehill Cottage. Your car can pull right near the house and you can enter the first floor or the deck with not one step. The queen bedroom and full bath are all on the first floor. It is an excellent choice for someone that doesn`t want to climb stairs.

The cottage driveway is a mile in from the Oceanville road and our guests all seem to appreciate the lack of traffic.

Great place, great people, great stay.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was wonderful, the setting is beautiful, and David and Carolyn were great hosts. We couldn't have imagined a better week in Maine. We would love to return.

oasis in the woods

  • 5 of 5

You'll find a small photo album in Pine Hill Cottage. It shows the care that was put into every aspect of constructing and decorating this amazing place to relax on the coast of Maine. Inside and out, thought was given to the space and the view. We found all that we needed for our week - comfortable beds, a well-equipped kitchen, and lots of places to read and talk. We were sharing this Deer Isle vacation with my 80-year old mom, and she managed the walk to the cottage easily. She enjoyed the first floor bedroom and bathroom, while we liked the loft space. The proximity to the water was great, an easy walk down the path. It was a bit tricky to find our way in from the main road when we first arrived, but after that, we enjoyed the long ride through the pines to get to the cottage. It was a nice transition into a quiet oasis close to the ocean. David and Carolyn welcomed us and checked on us during the week. This cottage was a great home base for exploring Deer Isle and Stonington, as well as visits to Blue Hill and up to Acadia. Now that we know about the Homestead Cabin across the road, we are imagining visits with more of our family along next time!

The perfect spot and cottage!

  • 5 of 5

Of all the vrbo properties we've stayed at up and down the East Coast, this is by far our favorite!

The cottage is tucked into the woods and is, itself, lovely. You can tell the care that went into building it - it is appointed with taste and character and has just what a family of four (or fewer) needs.

One of the best parts is that it is a very short walk down a path to the beach where you are rewarded by spectacular views of the water. I will never forget my times reading (or snoozing) on the rocks, stopping every once and a while to look up and be awed by it all.

And you don't need to go as far as the beach to find a sweet spot to read - the front deck has comfortable chairs that still allow a glimpse of the water to remind you where you are.

The owners were delightful and so welcoming, they made us feel like family.

We sincerely hope to return to this spot and our beloved Deer Isle soon in the future.

Ideal Seaside Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Pinehill Cottage is the perfect setting for a quiet, peaceful and scenic getaway. The cottage is well equipped, very clean and most comfortable. The ocean view is spectacular. The hiking trails nearby are a must. The hospitality of the owners was exceptional. We would dare to say it is the best kept secret on the island.

Great Get Away!

  • 5 of 5

What a great place to stay! Drive down a one lane private road to the cottage. Water views, nature, peace and quiet! What could be better. The cottage is very comfortable with all the necessities. David and Carolyn were attentive without being intrusive and very willing to give recommendations for things to do and restaurants to eat at. We enjoyed ourselves thoroughly and plan on returning.
