Large extended family, children and grand-children. Born in Maine, schooled in Bangor to college level, now living in Bangor/Brewer area.

Why Dr. Mary L. Cormier chose Acadia

Built in 1973, original owner/builders from Cape Cod were all about details. House was positioned facing slightly South, to afford spectacular sunsets all across front windows, all year long. Cathedral ceilings and well insulated, orig. owners incorporated materials brought back from their world travels into the home. Cypress plank wall from Fl, brick hearth from Boston bldg.smokestack, copper lanterns

driftwood memorabilia, paintings and carvings, etc.

Present owners have included numerous photos and paintings to add to the decor, as well as telescopes and hi-power binocs to enhance the views.

Builders of this house were all about details, as evidenced by facing the home slightly South to gain

a view of the incredible sunsets all year long, across the front windows. Originally electric heated and well insulated, now has new System2000 oil hot-water baseboard throughout.

What makes this house unique

Peace and quiet with exceptional views across Wadsworth Cove and Penobscot Bay, Islesboro Island and Camden Hills in background. Flowering trees and shrubs, wild roses, geese , sea ducks, and deer families grazing on the lawns of a nearby estate. Unique public beach at end of road, safe swimming/boating/ beach-combing.

Peregrine House - Beautiful rental on Penobscot Bay

  • 5 of 5

Best vacation ever. The view of the bay was perfect. Enjoyed watching the tides move in and out, and loved the seals sunbathing on the rocks. Family had a wonderful time kayaking and playing the games provided by the owners. This house has it all. Kitchen had everything needed for cooking , and also a grill for outside. We sat outside on the deck most of the time, there is an outside porch area and a porch area that is covered and enclosed for when it was cooler outside. Located in a quite neighborhood, and just the most beautiful location. We are from Texas and went north to get some cooler weather. The breeze off the bay was wonderful. Highly recommend this home.

Amenities, location, and waterfront view couldn't be better!

  • 5 of 5

Peregrine Cottage was totally satisfying in every way. The house is comfortably and attractively furnished with everything we could have possibly needed, and there's a water view from every room on the three floors. Additionally, the ground floor patio, fire pit and yard seating, deck, and lovely sunroom allow guests to take full advantage of the beautiful view. and the sunsets are incredible!

We stopped for a few rolls of toilet paper on the way from the airport, just to get us by before we could shop the next day for other basic supplies--salt and pepper, paper towels, plastic wrap, soap, etc. We needn't have worried---the kitchen, pantry, bathrooms, and laundry room were well stocked to meet all our needs. Of course we supplied our own food, but the cupboard had salt and pepper, herbs and spices, and other items we were invited to use, as well as cereal and milk as an emergency stopgap before shopping. While a small and pricy market is in nearby Castine, a full supermarket is thirty minutes away, encouraging careful planning ahead.

The location is ideal for short day trips to neighboring villages, islands, and Bar Harbor/Acadia National Park. Lots of really pretty countryside scenery--well-kept farms and residences, small towns, wooded areas, and water in one form or another everywhere. We visited Fort Hood, the Blue HIll County Fair, and other varied attractions, but the town of Castine turned out to be our favorite town; it's really pretty with lots of historical sites to explore.

Just one note in case it matters: bedrooms are on ground and third floor, meaning it's necessary to use stairs either up or down. (Living and dining areas and kitchen are on first floor, between the two floors with bedrooms.) This wasn't an issue for us, but could be to some. There's a full bath on each of three floors. We were two couples, and each couple had a bedroom with a full bath (and more beds than the four of us needed).

We have only praise for Peregrine Cottage and its most hospitable and gracious owner, who wanted to verify that we had everything we needed. Our stay was just great, and we appreciate Mary Lou's sharing her family's lovely waterfront cottage!

Peaceful, private, and very well equipped

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I and our three kids (13, 10 & 8) had a perfect week staying at this beautiful and very comfortable Castine home. The house was extremely clean with all of the ammenities of home and had plenty of room for us to spread out. As others have mentioned, the owners thoughtfully provide breakfast cereal and milk, as well other things like laundry detergent and bug spray. The little town of Castine is very cute with a few shops and restaurants. We also took day trips to Deer Isle and Stonington (hiking and visiting Nervous Nellie's Jams & Jellies), Belfast (do the harbor walk and visit the working shipyard), Camden (town was a little busy for us in the middle of August, but ocean views from Megunticook Trail in Camden Hills State Park was worth the trip), Acadia (about 1 hour 20 min away -- we went two days), and Bar Harbor whale watch (seals, porpoises, fin whales, and humpbacks -- much better when water is calmer). We would definitely recommend this terrific house, as well as this part of Maine!

What a relaxing home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing time. The owners were awesome. The personal touches made our stay memorable. We enjoyed staying in on a rainy day, visiting Acadia and Bar Harbor and roasting bratwurst over an open fire. The view was incredible. The best meal we had was the one we cooked ourselves-not to take anything away from the local cuisine. The men went out on a lobster boat. They brought back fish and lobster. Experiencing Maine from this home made our stay amazing.

Wonderful Peregrine!

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from 3 weeks at Peregrine, and can truly give our stay there a glowing review. It's the perfect place to savor Castine's serene beauty and history.

The house is comfortable, open, spacious, and airy, well cared for and maintained, as well as being fully stocked with every essential we possibly could need. The owners could not have been more gracious and accommodating, while never intruding, and we immediately felt that the house was ours.

The views are spectacular and the sunsets breathtaking. Visiting family loved the house and surroundings as much as we did, and enjoyed their stay to the fullest with kayaking, swimming, walks to town, an excursion to Bar Harbor and Arcadia, and roasting marshmallows in the fire pit. The lobster rolls from Dudley's are excellent as is the wonderful fresh crab and lobster from Woods Seafood, which conveniently brings their truck to the Windmill Hill Gardens market which is just minutes away.

We loved everything about our stay there, and wish it could have been for 3 months rather than 3 weeks! We highly recommend it.

One of Our Favorite Vacation Destinations Ever!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of six (Mother, two adult daughters & their husbands, and 13-year old grandson) enjoyed every minute of our 5-night stay at the Peregrine House. The view was breathtaking. The hospitality of the awesome owners was unmatched & unbelievable. We simply fell in love with the house and savored our time there, whether it was getting up early for an outing or sleeping in and cooking brunch in the well-equipped kitchen. One of our favorite spots was the sunroom, where we relaxed and watched the rain fall or the sun set. We were very excited to take the kayaks out in the bay & ended up on the beach picking up shells several days. We explored nearby destinations, like Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, Fort Knox, Penobscot Narrows Observatory, and even Kennebunkport, Portland Head, & Cape Elizabeth Lights. Our guys enjoyed a fishing trip and brought back a couple of lobsters too. It was our first trip to Maine and it was one we will never forget. The owners provided so much helpful information about things to do prior to the trip. And the house was stocked with everything you could imagine needing. Thanks so much for one of our absolute favorite vacations ever!!! Definitely want to come back to the Peregrine House again!
