About Shandi Dollman

I was born in the LA area but spent most of my life in Washington State. I moved back to LA about 6 years ago and have never been happier! I love the diversity of LA and all it has to offer. Hiking the Santa Monica Mountains in the early morning, kayaking in the Marina in the afternoon, playing volleyball on the beach with friends or skateboarding down the strand, then heading downtown to a museum or unique event in the evening. What a life! I fell in love with the Marina Peninsula shortly after I returned to SoCal and I’m so happy to live here. I live on the premises and take great pride in this property. It's my pleasure to share the beauty of this area with my guests. I hope you fall in love with it like I have!

Great little spot right off the water!

My husband and I stayed for a get away weekend here and we loved it. Perfect location and price point. The owner was really helpful and available for us. I would for sure stay here again.

Great for our timing and needs.

  • 4 of 5

We booked this place as a family of four (two young teen/tween) thinking we might have a car and it offered a parking spot. We ended up delaying our car rental but still found this property to be in a GREAT location for beach access – and generally comfortable for our purposes (we were out most of the day and just needed a place to sleep). It was clean but worn (couch and bath showing wear especially), a bit tight but okay for sleeping, well-equipped (beach towels were a nice touch!), very close to the beach, pier, Santa Monica (nice bike ride), convenience store, restaurants/Starbucks. We had the fan on and windows closed at night, so it might have blocked out the traffic noise others mentioned. The two bikes were rusty but were sufficient for my wife and I – a nice touch (note the seat on only one bike could be adjusted). We rented bikes for the kids on the beach-walk only a few blocks away from the apartment. Shandi was a charming and very responsive host.

Owner's Response: I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay at my studio! Thank you for highlighting our wonderful location and free parking. To address your concerns, the couch is cleaned regularly (especially since it is a light color) and we ensure it is in good shape. Most importantly, it has a VERY good memory foam mattress on the pull out bed portion (the main bed also has a very good mattress). The bathtub is scheduled for a re-glaze next month when there is a 3+ day break in the schedule. Regarding street noise -- the area quiets down around 10pm each evening, so even in the summer the windows can be left open to let a breeze in if needed. Most bikes (and any items with metal on them) are rusty in this area. The sea air is very harsh. We keep the chains oiled and the bikes clean. It is about $20-24 per day/per bike to rent bikes in the area, so offering 2 bikes saves our guests that hassle and cost. We also provide beach chairs, an umbrella, boogie boards and a surf board, saving rental costs there as well. Overall, we feel the studio is a good value for the reasonable nightly rental cost we charge. Thank you again for staying and for taking the time to provide a review.

Exactly as expected! Perfect spot with a great peek of the ocean.

Shandi was great! She responded quickly with any questions and was on top of any issues that popped up (we had noisy neighbors but we didn't notice). My favorite spot was the balcony. The week was pretty chilly as So Cal goes for March but that was my warm spot in the morning. I would pick this place again from the location to the and parking spot (not having to search for parking is golden!). Beach chairs, towels and toys were a plus too! Thank you Shandi, we hope to be back someday soon!

Cozy and all amenities available.

  • 4 of 5

First, there was a parking space in a locked garage - like gold in this neighborhood of walk streets and little public parking. Next, we came in and there was wine, crackers, cookies, etc on the table for us. The small fridge and microwave were all we need for preparing breakfast and heating leftovers from local restaurants. I even found some cinnamon up in the cupboard for my oatmeal and a blow dryer for my wet hair! Clearly a hostess/vrbo owner with the mostest! There were also bicycles, sand sleds, beach chairs, beach towels, and even a surfboard. The room was small, but the bed and couch were very comfortable. The studio is above a busy street, but it was very quiet in the middle of the night.

When I left my special pillow on the bed by mistake, Shandi was so helpful to my daughter who came by and picked it up a few days after we left. Also, my husband did not like the tall dining table and chairs, but she had just ordered new ones, so we look forward to returning and using them. She even offered to bring up a desk for him to use while he worked on his computer.

I will return when I can get some more time off. We really lucked out on the weather and got three days of warm sunshine in a row. This place is very convenient to the beach and I had a lovely walk to the Santa Monica Pier and back and another one to the Marina Channel and back the morning we checked out.

clean and close to the beach, but not perfect

  • 4 of 5

This place is clean, well-equipped, very close to the beach, and generally comfortable. It is a short walk south of Washington Bllvd. at the corner of Pacific and Catamaran. It is up a flight of stairs. Parking is in a small garage around the corner. There are two negatives: 1. Traffic noise from Pacific; and 2. No proper table and chairs. There is a high round table such as you might find in a bar or restaurant with four backless stools. Not exactly my idea of comfort, especially if you need to get any work done. The other furnishings are appropriate, however. Overall a good value. Perfect for two people. Might be a bit crowded for four people unless the other two were young, calm children.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review, Mark. I’m glad you enjoyed your stay. I’m sorry to hear the table was not comfortable for you to use for work. Coincidentally, we are having a new table and chairs (full back) delivered this week. I’m so sorry it did not arrive in time for your stay. (I will post new pictures as soon as the table is delivered.) I’m sorry to hear that the traffic noise was bothersome. As stated in our description, we are located in a lively, energetic beach community. Pacific Avenue is the only street for those living further south in our community to get to their homes. We are also part of a populated city and cities can in general be noisy. The street noise quiets down in the evening and is not generally an issue after dark. However, for our guests who are not used to city noise, we have installed noise reducing curtains, a sound machine next to the bed, and in the summer the fans also help with any noise. We also have priced our rental accordingly and provide many extra amenities (including free parking – which is a premium commodity in this area -- bikes, beach chairs, boogie boards, etc) for our guests. That all being said, for those who are reading this review, there are rentals further south on the peninsula that may be a bit quieter (although no street noise does not mean the area itself will not be quiet – this is a community that is active with surfers, neighbors, and tourists). However, staying further south means you will walk further to get to restaurants, the bike path and the Venice boardwalk -- it is a trade-off depending on what you are looking for in location. Safe travels!

The studio is located in an active beach community. Our neighbors enjoy the inviting southern California climate, the beach, and our lovely patios. Our walk street is filled with locals and activity. It's a great place to be!

Do you want a laidback, low-key vacation? This is the place. Relax on the beach, enjoy the Venice Canals, or lounge on your private balcony or our shared patio.

Do you want adventure and activity? Surfing, boogie boarding, volleyball, hiking, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, biking and more all await you here.

Do you want to experience great restaurants, nightlife, and people watching? Washington Blvd and Venice Beach offer it all.

LAX is only 10-15 minute taxi ride away. There's LA public transportation 3 blocks away on Washington Boulevard. We have 2 beach cruisers available for biking around the area. And during the summer, there's a free beach shuttle that travels around the Marina and to Santa Monica. Free street parking is available in the area and there is a pay parking lot nearby.
