About the property

Luxurious, spacious, 5 minute walk to downtown, on Strawberry Creek, Ping Pong

This 4200 sq. ft. estate sits on an acre of flowering gardens and landscaping in the heart of the mandala of Idyllwild. It is the perfect retreat for families and groups to relax in comfort and luxury, surrounded by the magnificent beauty of the San Jacinto Mountains and National Forest. This is a place to decompress and rejuvenate. Enjoy the quiet seclusion of our babbling stream surrounded by native flora. Our private hot tub room is loaded with windows and a skylight for a wonderful view of our landscaped yard. We have a solar-heated swimming pool, open in the summer; a covered outdoor patio area, and creekside dining. Wide, paved walkways wrap around to the back of the house where there is an expansive patio and barbecue area that stretches along Strawberry Creek. You can play ping pong here on our Kettler outdoor ping pong table or challenge your friends to a bean bag toss game. The patio is level and suitable for gatherings and romantic dancing under the stars. (Sorry, we no longer offer weddings here.) Artistically placed Christmas lights illuminate the trees and bushes. A bridge crosses the creek. The wooden pavilion there provides a platform above the flora and a place to listen to nature. The large living room, grand piano, fireplace, library, sun room, extensive landscaping, and gardens all add to the Idyllwild Manor's charm. This is an elegant home with tall ceilings for Christmas trees and large, bright windows to view the natural beauty: a place to relax and unwind or celebrate special occasions and holidays. A fully appointed country kitchen has all the pots, pans, and utensils needed for preparing a Sunday morning waffle or a Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings. Five bedrooms comfortably sleep 12-14 people in spacious rooms and seven cozy beds. The Manor has a Cal King, a King, two Queens, two doubles, and one single bed: seven beds in all. Two portable cribs and a pillow-top twin air mattress are also available. Particular attention is paid to all of our bedding, towels, and linens to be sure that they are clean and fresh. Sheets and pillowcases are pressed for your extreme comfort. Blankets and bedspreads are washed every time. All of our sheets are 100% cotton with quality 500 thread count. Rooms are generously sized and provide added privacy. The large, paved parking area on level ground, Wi-Fi, 48 inch Samsung HDTV, Cable TV, high speed internet, Netflix Streaming, Blue-ray DVD player, dishwasher, washer and dryer make your stay easier. There is a giant fenced-in area in the backyard for children and dogs. Firewood for is supplied for our fireplace during colder months. Toys, a library of books, board games, a Corn Hole Bean Bag Game Set, an outdoor Ping Pong table, portable cribs, comfortable floor plan, and extra rooms for the children to play all make this a wonderful family getaway, just a hop, skip, and jump from Idyllwild's famous community playground and the Idyllwild Community Center Park. Downtown Idyllwild, with its wonderful, locally-owned restaurants, bistros, galleries, shops, and antique stores, is a 5-minute walk away. Idyllwild Arts Academy is nearby! IAA performances happen all year, and they are free to the public. Come to the Idyllwild Manor and enjoy the change of the seasons, the butterfly gardens, and the nighttime splendor of the stars. We have cool nights in the summer, red and golden leaves in the autumn, falling snows in the winter, and the amazing outburst of the first flowers in spring. It is paradise. About Roger and Myra Dutton

I am an author, poet, and columnist. My husband is a musician, songwriter, and contemporary artist, who has been featured in several art shows throughout the Los Angeles, San Francisco, Palm Springs, and San Diego areas.

Roger and Myra Dutton purchased this estate in 1992

Why Roger and Myra Dutton chose Idyllwild

This is an ancestral home on my husband's side of the family. My husband was raised in Idyllwild and knows much of the history of the town, firsthand. We raised three wonderful children in the Idyllwild Manor. Four generations of this family have lived here now. I came to Idyllwild because of the amazing natural beauty found in these sacred mountains and was fortunate to find a wonderful husband and a place to live and raise a family.

What makes this estate unique

This estate is really one of the most wonderful homes in Idyllwild. It has been owned by only three families; all were very successful and influential in this town. Two of them virtually owned Idyllwild at the time. The quality and craftsmanship of this home is immediately apparent, as is the warmth and good energy that fills every room. There is so much here. I have taught little children to swim in the swimming pool for years. The garden is filled with butterflies in the summer and fall, and with flowers most of the year. The stream offers up natural wildlife from time to time: Great Blue Herons, trout, Kingfishers, hawks, deer, raccoons, etc. My little grandson points to the stream and says, 'Wow!', because he has seen these creatures here. It is magical and a wonderful place to bring children, or just to bring the child in you. There is so much land, so much home, and so much love.

Notes:
Idyllwild afficionados, please inquire about the history of this place. This is not a cabin in the woods but an elegant home. Some of our guests have called it "a little castle in the woods". The house has a craftsman art vibe and is very eclectic and charming. On the other side of the creek, there is a special pavilion where you can sit and be enchanted by the sounds of nature and the seasonal stream.

Beautiful home in a marvellous setting.

  • 5 of 5

Days at the Manor were spent relaxing by the pool, walking the beautiful butterfly garden, and BBQ by the creek. The house is clean and comfortable. Very spacious and full of special touches that create a very charming setting. Kitchen and bathrooms were well stocked with everything we needed and the beds were very comfortable. Short walk to the village was just one more outstanding feature of this wonderful property. I would highly recommend staying here and the owners were friendly and very helpful.

Beautiful home and wonderful weekend!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful family reunion at the beautiful Idyllwild Manor! The home had everything we needed and more! Tons of towels, kitchenware, and a basket of extra supplies in case we forgot something. To top it off, Myra provided us with organic homemade treats that were delicious! The kids loved the pool, ping pong table, and bean bag toss. We highly recommend this home and look forward to staying there again in the future. Thank you Roger and Myra for a wonderful stay!

Perfect Location for Family Reunion!!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 16, 8 adults and 8 children (7 yrs old and younger) thoroughly enjoyed staying in your lovely home for three nights over the 4th of July. We wanted a place where we could be together with all three children and their spouses and our grandchildren and your place fit the bill perfectly. It was so nice to have something (pool) for the adults and children to do while the babies took their naps. The bedrooms were spacious, and the twin air mattress and crib (with bedding) were put to good use. The pool was a huge hit with the grandkids! We swam LOTS! They had beach towels and pool noodles to use too.

Having two refrigerators was very handy as we brought all our own food and ate all our meals at the house. What a good idea to have two water dispensers with Brita filters! We have a guest house too and plan to purchase one for ours now too.

Great being close to town. During naps some walked into town for an ice cream and having a store around the corner is handy too. The toddlers loved the blocks and toy vehicles provided as well as the games. The creekside patio was perfect for outdoor grilling and dining for lunch and dinner. The children even had a little "parade" on the patio on the 4th and we all enjoyed a "fireless" campfire as our sons played their guitars and we sang campfire songs. The beds were comfy and the place was clean. Myra responded to our inquiries in a timely way and emailed us about local events for the 4th. Inside dining would have been a bit crowded with our large group if the weather would have been inclement, but that is seldom the case in southern CA. We accidentally left three of the children's bathing suits in the dryer when we left and Myra was gracious to mail them on to my daughter. Nobody wanted to leave when the time was up! We would enjoy a return trip someday! Yummy date balls welcomed us!

An Excellent Experience

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at "The Manor". and once again, it met all the needs of our family group of 11. The pool is a great option for the 4 four children in our family especially in warm summer weather. The home is well equipped with all the supplies you need for your stay. The home is comfortable and offers a number of rooms or outside areas where you can have a quiet moment. We hope to return next summer.

Magic in the mountains

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our time by the creek watching birds and butterflies play in the fields of light and water. We had wonderful rooms with comfy beds where we slept listening to the waters as it gurgled by. Folks walked to town as they were called and many swam in the pool and searched for rocks and bugs in the creek. Ralph and Myra are helpful, kind and give lots of space. We had a memorable time in a gorgeous location with hospitality. The home made granola was amazing. Thank you

The Waters Church

  • 5 of 5

Idyllwild Manor again delivers in providing the perfect weekend retreat manor for our church. Everything we need to ensure a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere can be had here. The weather was absolutely perfect this year which allowed for sitting by the stream and many "friendly" games of cornhole. We have tried many wonderful vacation homes in Idyllwild over the past 9 years and Idyllwild Manor is by far our favorite. Roger and Myra are fabulous and we love our annual weekend in Idyllwild.

Idyllwild is the gem of southern California. Located in the mountains above Palm Springs, the San Jacinto National Forest is one of the most majestic sites to be found anywhere. With tall mountains, giant landmarks, and a forest of oaks, pines, and cedars, our hiking trails and majestic overlooks will amaze you. My personal favorites are Deer Springs Trail, Devil's Slide Trail, and Southridge Trail. These will take you to mountaintops and nature spots that you will never forget. Mountain biking and rock climbing are popular pastimes. You can go fishing or boating at Lake Hemet, thirteen minutes away. Fish are stocked every two weeks, and there are boat rentals and a water park. Birders love the many migratory birds that pass over our mountains. We have Golden Eagles that live year-round at Lake Hemet. Idyllwild has yoga, pilates, dance, and exercise classes, massage therapists, and an acupuncture clinic. This is a place to decompress and rejuvenate. Musical entertainment is offered at Cafe Aroma, Ferro's, and IdyllAwhile Wine Bar. Idyllwild Arts, a private, boarding, international high school for music and the arts, offers free music, dance, and theatre performances, as well as, art shows. Check out the Idyllwild Arts Summer Program for classes available to the public! They are incredible! Plays are offered by our various theatre groups. The Idyllwild Art Alliance has major art shows throughout the year. Many professional musicians live here, away from the rush of big cities, and perform at our local bistros. The Idyllwild Jazz Festival happens in August every year and draws huge crowds. The Nature Center and the Idyllwild Community Playground are wonderful for children. We also have a new public library and a movie theater. Sky Island Natural Foods and Meadow Greens Cafe is only a block away. They have a Farmer's Market with local organic produce every Saturday.
