Overview

About the property

Are you ready to relax and re-energize?

We have a no pet policy. Trout Run Cabin is a 3 bedroom, 2 bath real log cabin located on the banks of Fightingtown Creek, a protected trout steam. The cabin sleeps 6 comfortably. No pets, no smoking, no hot tub.

We are a family destination not a party location. It is very quiet here and we like it that way. If you like whimsy, you will love it here. The pictures tell the story.

At Trout Run Cabin you can take long walks back into the forest for miles or sit on the porch and read a book. How about sitting by the fire pit out back at night making s'mores while listening to the crystal clear water rushing by. The sounds of the forest are all around you. This is a very peaceful place. Lots of flat areas for the children to run and play. Bring their bikes and they can ride all day long.

No license needed to fish in the pond out front.

Inside you will find 2 premium king size beds: One in the master suite and the other in the loft suite. Also, there is a set of bunk beds in the bunk room. All beds have 1500 Egyptian cotton thread count sheets.

Come Relax and Re-energize.

About Murray

Growing up in Florida, I have always taken summer vacations to the mountains because it is so different. I love the outdoors so it is a natural thing to love the cabin. For me and my wife, it is a dream come true. We found the perfect place in the perfect location. We have young children and wanted a place that we could let them run and play and not have to worry. We found it. This is one of those items on the bucket list that has been fulfilled. We hope that our guests enjoy the cabin as much as we do.

Murray purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Murray chose Northwest High Country

My wife and I had always wanted a cabin in the mountains, on a stream, with a lot of flat area. In June of 2012, we found everything we had been looking for. One of the first things I noticed when I first visited the cabin was how quiet is it and all you can hear is the sound of the creek rushing by. It is a special place and we are just happy that we are able to share it with others.

What makes this cabin unique

Trout Run Cabin is such a relaxing place. It is so quiet here. You can just sit back, relax and enjoy the sounds of the forest. One of the best things is that you feel so removed from everything yet you are only 20 minutes from downtown Blue Ridge. It is just an awesome place.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We just spent a week at Trout Run Cabin and I already wish I could go back again. That was the most relaxing vacation I have ever had!

The cabin itself is wonderful, having everything you could need plus some. It is comfortable and beautifully decorated. My favorite part was sitting at the edge of the creek, just watching and listening. My husband fished from the pond and caught a nice little bream. We took walks along the road that runs by the creek, we played horseshoes by the pond and we relaxed by the fire pit at night. On our last morning there we woke to see two deer grazing on the other side of the pond.

We went to Mercier Orchard and into Blue Ridge for shopping, antiquing, The Art Center and a few lunches. Great area! (Our favorite lunch was at Joe’s BBQ!)

Murray, the owner of Trout Run was fabulous with communicating and giving suggestions for eating and activities. It was much appreciated!

Thank you, Murray, for sharing your little piece of heaven here on earth with us!

We will be back!

Beautiful and relaxing atmosphere.

  • 4 of 5

Beautiful place and atmosphere. Quiet and relaxing listening to the creek or catching fish in the pond. Great fire pit to roast hot dogs or marshmallows for smores or just sit around!

The cabin is very clean and very well kept. The view of the creek is very serene.

We had a wonderful time with lots to do at the cabin itself. Our 7 and 4 year old loved playing and tubing in the creek. The water was cold but the kids didn't seem phased. It was nice just relaxing in the chairs watching the kids play. The creek is also pretty shallow in most areas so the kids didn't have any trouble navigating. We also fished in the pond with some success. While we were there my 7 year old and I did horse back riding with Adventure Trail rides which is right down the road and that was so much fun. We also did the Blue Ridge train ride which the kids and adults enjoyed but the town you stop in is a little older and the shopping is not nearly as nice as downtown Blue Ridge itself. Another place we enjoyed was Mercier Orchard, we ate breakfast there and shopped but unfortunately we didn't get to tour the orchard since they only do that on Sat and Sun. Overall the vacation was exactly what we wanted, something relaxing and slow paced. Everyone really had a great time. We will be back. I also forgot to mention we had 2 dogs that apparently live in the area that seemed to follow us wherever we went. One of the neighbors mentioned they can smell a "renter" a mile away. Thankfully they were very well mannered dogs and my kids are not fearful. But it seemed like anytime we were outside they'd show up to hang out and mostly sleep.

Tranquility at it's finest

  • 5 of 5

The decor of the cabin was well thought out- earth colors in symphony with nature, beckoning one to relax. The sound of the creek was also very calming. I went to rest and renew body, spirit and soul and I achieved that. I'll remember this vacation for a long time.

One of the quietest places on earth

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I absolutely enjoyed our time at Trout Run. It was very quiet and the sound of the stream out back further added to the solitude. The pond near the cabin was very low due to the drought but that wasn't really a problem.

The bed in the "master" was one of the most comfortable beds we've ever slept on in a cabin. We've had some doozies in the past but no problems here. The sofa and chair were also very comfortable and led to me sleeping more than watching television.

The kitchen was well-supplied and this cabin perhaps might be the most generously stocked cabins we've stayed at. Everything from a crockpot to a zester; it was there or in the pantry. And then the pantry, which had some food items, had a sign that said, "Use whatever you need, just replace it." This is unheard of in the cabin rental world. I'm thankful for the owner's generosity and willingness to trust the renters.

Tv was great. Netflixed worked ok. Internet was decent given where the cabin is located.

We went horseback riding at the stables nearby and that was so much fun for us.

We enjoyed it and would highly recommend it.

Beautiful quiet location. Kids loved playing in the creek. FYI. No cell service in the cabin, but that was a good thing!

Owner's Response: Justin, Thanks for staying with us. So glad you guys had such a good time. We restocked the pond last year so hopefully the kids kept busy fishing in the pond as well as playing in the creek. We get pictures from our guests on a regular basis showing off their catch. Hope to hear from you again in the future. Would love to have you and your family come back to the cabin. Take care, Murray

Great Place to Stay!

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonderful vacation - we visited Mercier Orchard and Lily Pad Village in Blue Ridge one day, but other than that, we never left the cabin! Our 5 young children loved playing in and tubing down the creek over and over again, fishing in the pond, and the great hike up the waterfall. The cabin itself was beautiful, clean, well stocked, and the perfect family getaway. We hope to go back next year!

Owner's Response: Whitney, Thanks so much for staying at the cabin.. You are spot on with your review! Like you said, there is really no need to leave the cabin. We love it when families with small children go and enjoy the cabin. There are so many things to do such as fishing in pond, swimming/tubing in the creek, exploring the trails back in to the forest, playing horseshoe in the field or running around the wide open areas around the cabin. An awesome place for children to run and play. The ability to easily get in and out of the creek is a big plus. The location is just perfect for families and couples who want to go and enjoy nature. It is hard to describe just how peaceful and relaxing it truly is. Thankfully we have been blessed with a prime location for our dream of a waterfront cabin in the woods which we share with others. As I'm sure you experienced, with all the various activities to do during the day, once the sun goes down, you can truly relax. Having a fire in the firepit right next to the creek at night while being able to look up at stars is a special treat. Its amazing how the sounds of the forest come alive at night. It doesn't get much better than making S'mores and roasting hotdogs over the open fire right next to a fast flowing creek. Hopefully you were able to open all the windows on the porch at night and relax while reading a book. The rushing water sound would lull anyone to sleep. We also have many board games for children to play. I think most of your little ones were a bit small for board games but there is always next year. We have a little slice of heaven not just a cabin in the woods. Many guests tell us that there is something magical about the place. Maybe because we have tried to make it a little whimsical or maybe it is because of the location the cabin is in. It is the perfect setting. Being out if the middle of the woods and only 20 short minutes to downtown Blue Ridge is a huge plus. The greatest testament is the fact that we have some many of our past guests come back to visit again and again. Thanks again Whitney for bringing your family to enjoy being in the National Forest. What great memories you are making for your family. Blessings, Murray
