About Jon Stotts

I live in NYC and built a weekend house in Austerlitz, NY after falling in love with the area in 2006. I love the City, but crave a simpler country life to charge my batteries from time to time. I had 40 virgin acres on a ridge line and had to figure out how to get infrastructure put in place before I could start construction. I finally got the house built in 2012, after owning the land for six years. It has truly been a labor of love and I hope to share its beauty with others.

Jon Stotts purchased this house in 2006

Why Jon Stotts chose Austerlitz

The house is perched atop a hill in the middle of the woods all by itself. The rolling hills and views of the Catskill Mountains to the West and Berkshire Mountains to the East are breath taking. The locally produced foods are amazing. There are blueberry festivals, county fairs, chili cook offs, live performances and other local events every weekend in the summer, great hiking close and skiing all winter.

It's also very easy to have guests meet you as the Albany airport and Hudson train station are both close.

Local towns offer rustic to sophisticated dining options, but staying home and cooking in the big kitchen or outdoor grill is sometimes hard to beat.

What makes this house unique

You can watch the sun rise and sunsets bath the Catskills in a pink light from the back deck or hot tub with a coffee or wine in hand and not have to see another person for days (if you don't want to). Wild turkey, deer, fox and other wild life stroll by the house daily. It's so quiet, you'll only hear the wind, nature and the occasional passing plane.

Sooo relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

The house is beautiful and very comfortable! In fact, we enjoyed it so much, we didn’t even go skiing, as we had intended to! We just didn’t want to leave the house! We had such nice family time, playing games, watching movies, and cooking nice, home cooked meals, which we are so often too busy working to do much of anymore! The internet was limited and slow, but it was a great thing, because it forced our three teenagers to interact! We had a slight snafu with the fire alarms going off and one needing a new battery, but Jon responded immediately and told us how to fix the situation (flu to fireplace was closed and we had to use fan above stove). Easy fixes. The hot tub was nice and hot, and the view was priceless! Our only complaint was the dirt road leading in (good thing we have 4 wheel drive) and the distance from town. It didn’t really bother us, but it did make us lazy and not want to leave the house! The first night we did have an excellent meal at People’s Pub in Chatham. If you are looking for someplace to relax, this is your house!

great location, well supplied, comortable

  • 5 of 5

Title says it. The views were amazing, the kitchen was well supplied (some of the best knives and cutting boards I've seen in a rental) and the beds and living room were cozy and comfortable. Great get-a-way. The snow was intense (not that this is related to the property) and the plow guy was a little slow coming around - but note above... I suspect he was swamped.

Great get- away! Great scenery! Very clean and comfortable. Need AWD to access.

We loved the house but because of remote location my Honda Fit had trouble with deep ruts in driveway.

The property was not welcoming. Definitely a lack of care and attention. Extremely disappointed

  • 1 of 5

Ants everywhere in all areas of the home and found their way into our suitcases. Hot/cold faucet in master bedroom shower did not work.

No electricity in second bedroom.

House appeared worn, closets cluttered and very unwelcoming. Weeds were overgrown and walk lights on driveway were broken and scattered in grass. I will never use this website again to find a vacation house. Low standards for listing a home. Extremely disappointed
