About the property

2 bedroom, 1 bathroom on the river

Historic cabin, a rare find, just on the market this spring. We are very happy to offer you our cabin for a break in your busy lives. We hope you enjoy the sounds of the river, the beautiful mountain air, blue skies and our historic cabin which is nestled between a rock outcropping and the Big Thompson River. The River Retreat Cabin is 3.5 miles from Estes Park, Colorado and only 10 minutes away from Rocky Mountain National Park.

River Retreat has all the comforts of home. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need to prepare your own meals. There is also a relaxing patio including a gas grill for enjoying a barbecue. The main floor bedroom features a queen size bed, and the cozy upstairs includes two twin beds and plenty of charm. There is a spacious living room and dining area with a gas flame stove for our cool Colorado mornings. The enclosed porch offers overstuffed chairs in a cozy corner for sipping coffee or for curling up with a good book on a lazy afternoon. The cabin also offers satellite television and wireless internet access.

Our cabin is the perfect place to spend your mountain vacation right on the banks of the Big Thompson River as a quiet retreat or a home base for exploring, fishing, hiking or shopping.

About Richard and Robin Kluding

We have owned the River Retreat and updated and restored this classic property. We greatly enjoy hiking just outside the cabin and fly fishing for trout in the Big Thompson river and snow shoeing in the winter. Our primary home is in Boulder and we love the winters in Estes Park and in Hawaii!

Richard and Robin Kluding purchased this cabin in 1995

Why Richard and Robin Kluding chose Front Range

The River Retreat was originally built in 1925 as a family fishing cabin. and is located on the Big Thompson river with lots of trout! We have updated and restored this property while keeping much of the old charm while now having many modern conveniences! This is a beautiful and true Colorado mountain cabin and it is a rare privilege to experience this private setting on a rental basis!

What makes this cabin unique

This is a classic and a very beautiful and comfortable cabin with all the charm of a historic Colorado mountain cabin yet with WIFI, TV and most of the modern conveniences you have come to expect. And we are very close to Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park and on a quiet private lane on the river!

Beautiful escape

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was lovely, it was everything we needed for a rocky mountain getaway! Being right on the river was wonderful, and it was great being so close to town but not IN town. We live far away so may not get a chance to come back, but would definitely recommend it to anyone!

The house was just what we needed!!!

  • 5 of 5

This house was perfect for our stay in Estes Park and visit to RMNP. It is located just a couple of miles out of the town of Estes Park and very accessible. The house is very well kept, well maintained, and very comfortable. It was a step back in time with the vintage kitchen. The patio was great for enjoying drinks of an evening and the porch/sunroom was a wonderful place to enjoy your coffee in the morning. The only downside to this house is the stairway to the upstairs is a bit steep and narrow for me. My wife was fine with it but she is a small woman. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend the property to friends and family without hesitation.

Great Cabin on the river!!

  • 5 of 5

This lovely cabin is as beautiful as pictured. It sits right on Bug Thompson River with a perfect secluded seating area with Adirondack chairs and picnic table. The highway does run right along river but not too busy and we sat out here each evening with the sound of the river, crickets and birds making it oh so enjoyable! The cabin is comfortable and the queen bed was so relaxing after busy days in the park! Highly recommend!!
