About the property

Two Cabins - each with one bedroom, one bathroom, and sleeper sofas

We are excited to welcome you to Estes Park, our little piece of paradise. We hope to provide you with an exceptional vacation experience.

This unique rental has two separate cabins on one property, each with one bedroom, one bath, and living area. The larger "Smiling Elk" has a full modern kitchen with a wonderful gas stove, full bath, queen bed, sleeper sofa, washer/dryer, and a wood-burning fireplace. Free wi-fi and a flat-screen TV with Direct TV complete the package. We provide all linens, towels, a stocked kitchen, and toiletries. The kitchen includes coffee, tea, paper goods, and all the dishes and cooking equipment you may need. There is also a crock pot so you can have dinner ready and waiting when you return from the day's activities.

The smaller and adorable "Little Bear" has a partial kitchen (sink, microwave, mini-fridge, coffee maker), 3/4 bath with tiled shower, two twin beds, and a sleeper sofa. This cabin also has a flat-screen TV and free internet.

This property is ideal for couples, friends, or small families. It is situated near the west side of town, with easy access to Rocky Mountain National Park, yet only three miles from downtown. Several restaurants, coffee shops, miniature golf, and groceries are within walking distance. A free shuttle to downtown stops at the resort next door every hour, so you could leave the driving to others and just enjoy the ride.

Enjoy a backyard BBQ on the gas grill, or visit Smokin' Dave's BBQ and Baba's Burgers, two local favorites. Coffee on the Rocks is open early if you prefer to have your coffee prepared for you. All of these are just down the street and around the corner. Country Market has groceries, gas, and great ice cream. The well-known Dunraven Inn restaurant is a short drive to the west, accessible without navigating the downtown traffic.

We are happy to answer any questions you may have about the Estes Park area and Rocky Mountain National Park, including local favorites, day hike suggestions, etc. Just give us a call before or during your stay. We want your vacation to be full of good memories, and will do what we can do to make that happen.

If these cabins aren't available the dates you desire, please check out our other property that's right downtown - VRBO # 471009 - Riverwalk Loft Condos.

We look forward to being your hosts in Estes Park!

Scott and Karen Thompson live and work in Estes Park; Scott as a real estate consultant and Karen as an executive assistant at Town Hall. We have lived in Estes Park nine years, but like many, have been visiting the area since childhoood. We sincerely enjoy hosting guests from all over the world, and want to make sure they have great memories of their vacation here. The Estes Valley and Rocky Mountain National Park have so much to offer, and we are blessed to be able to live here year-round. Giving back to the community is important to us, and we especially enjoy volunteering for local events like the Estes Park Duck Race, Elk fest, and Catch the Glow Parade. We have two adult daughters and enjoy hiking and serving others in our spare time. The photo was taken from the summit of Longs Peak.

SCOTT THOMPSON purchased this cabin in 2014

Why SCOTT THOMPSON chose Front Range

We do our best to provide our guests with very clean accommodations, and will go the extra mile to make your stay special. It is our desire to make your stay with us so enjoyable that you will return, and feel comfortable referring your friends and relatives to stay at Little Bear Cottages or Riverwalk Loft Condos (VRBO 471009). We truly appreciate your patronage, and hope we have met all your needs.

What makes this cabin unique

Enjoy your morning coffee on the east-facing front porch, soaking up the Colorado sunshine. With close to 300 days of sunshine a year and a sky more blue than you'll ever see (and thousands of stars by night), Estes Park is full of natural beauty. Events in town are just minutes away (remember that free shuttle), and the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park is less than two miles away.

Having two separate cabins allows couples or friends to have private accommodations, while being able to share meals and relax in either cabin. Older children would enjoy being independent in their "own" cabin, while the parents can supervise from a short distance away (+-50 feet) in the main residence.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We stayed in both cabins from 7/16/17 through 7/19/17. The location was perfect with just minutes from the RMNP entrance. They are just minutes from downtown Estes - which was also perfect for us being away from the hustle and bustle of the downtown area.

Both cabins were very clean, very well maintained and cozy. We spent one evening on the patio playing cards - which was a nice to be able to unwind after a busy day in the park. The only downside was the shower in the small cabin - having a son who is 6' tall he had to bend down a little when he took a shower. But I wouldn't even call that a negative.

We really enjoyed our stay and when we visit Colorado again - this will definitely be on our list for a place to stay again!

This rental was exactly as described, and it fit our needs perfectly. We took advantage of fully furnished bedrooms, fold out sofa beds, washer and dryer, complete cooking and serving items, TVs, showers, and free parking. Friends were camping in RMNP and there was room for them to visit, warm up (it was chilly!), and dry out (it was rainy for several days). The location has easy access to downtown Estes AND to RMNP. Perfect. I hope to make this a regular vacation arrangement.

Wonderful Cabin!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a great time at the Little Bear Cottages. Our cabin was clean, cozy, and inviting, and the perfect resting spot after hiking in the national park. Everything you would want in a small Colorado cabin!!!

It is a nice cabin that is clean and well equipped

  • 4 of 5

We stayed for 3 nights and found the cabin to be comfortable, clean and well equipped. We were looking for a 2 bedroom accommodation as a friend was traveling with us. When this cabin was shown in VRBO, we found out that the second bedroom was actually in a separate cabin! It worked out very well as our friend had his own space and his own bathroom. We ate and spent time in the main cabin but he still had a small kitchenette with a refrigerator for storing drinks and snacks back at his cabin.

The only reason I did not give it a 5 star rating was because of very slow wi-fi. Even though we reset the router, we still had trouble sending or receiving data.

Owner's Response: We strive to make sure the cabins have all the amenities of home and are glad that you had an enjoyable experience. We do show that there are two separate cabins in multiple places in the description and are glad that they worked out better for you. We will check on the Wi-Fi speed as we have not had it mentioned before and it always seems to work great where we are there. Please come back and see us again.

cozy and cool

  • 5 of 5

Always enjoy the personal touch of a home environment during our travels. The cottage was perfect for our needs and had all the personal touches we needed and wanted. Might want to suggest a spring-loaded mechanism be installed on the screen door so it doesn't slam behind when exiting/entering. Thank you for a memorable experience.

Would be nice if it had some type of fire pit. Otherwise awesome!

Owner's Response: We are so glad you had an awesome experience. With our mountainous and wooded locale fire danger is always a concern. The Town of Estes Park does not allow open fire pits and has a fire ban in place for some time. Fires are always allowed in the fireplace inside the cabin.
