About the property

Two Cabins - each with one bedroom, one bathroom, and sleeper sofas

We are excited to welcome you to Estes Park, our little piece of paradise. We hope to provide you with an exceptional vacation experience.

This unique rental has two separate cabins on one property, each with one bedroom, one bath, and living area. The larger "Smiling Elk" has a full modern kitchen with a wonderful gas stove, full bath, queen bed, sleeper sofa, washer/dryer, and a wood-burning fireplace. Free wi-fi and a flat-screen TV with Direct TV complete the package. We provide all linens, towels, a stocked kitchen, and toiletries. The kitchen includes coffee, tea, paper goods, and all the dishes and cooking equipment you may need. There is also a crock pot so you can have dinner ready and waiting when you return from the day's activities.

The smaller and adorable "Little Bear" has a partial kitchen (sink, microwave, mini-fridge, coffee maker), 3/4 bath with tiled shower, two twin beds, and a sleeper sofa. This cabin also has a flat-screen TV and free internet.

This property is ideal for couples, friends, or small families. It is situated near the west side of town, with easy access to Rocky Mountain National Park, yet only three miles from downtown. Several restaurants, coffee shops, miniature golf, and groceries are within walking distance. A free shuttle to downtown stops at the resort next door every hour, so you could leave the driving to others and just enjoy the ride.

Enjoy a backyard BBQ on the gas grill, or visit Smokin' Dave's BBQ and Baba's Burgers, two local favorites. Coffee on the Rocks is open early if you prefer to have your coffee prepared for you. All of these are just down the street and around the corner. Country Market has groceries, gas, and great ice cream. The well-known Dunraven Inn restaurant is a short drive to the west, accessible without navigating the downtown traffic.

We are happy to answer any questions you may have about the Estes Park area and Rocky Mountain National Park, including local favorites, day hike suggestions, etc. Just give us a call before or during your stay. We want your vacation to be full of good memories, and will do what we can do to make that happen.

If these cabins aren't available the dates you desire, please check out our other property that's right downtown - VRBO # 471009 - Riverwalk Loft Condos.

We look forward to being your hosts in Estes Park!

Scott and Karen Thompson live and work in Estes Park; Scott as a real estate consultant and Karen as an executive assistant at Town Hall. We have lived in Estes Park nine years, but like many, have been visiting the area since childhoood. We sincerely enjoy hosting guests from all over the world, and want to make sure they have great memories of their vacation here. The Estes Valley and Rocky Mountain National Park have so much to offer, and we are blessed to be able to live here year-round. Giving back to the community is important to us, and we especially enjoy volunteering for local events like the Estes Park Duck Race, Elk fest, and Catch the Glow Parade. We have two adult daughters and enjoy hiking and serving others in our spare time. The photo was taken from the summit of Longs Peak.

SCOTT THOMPSON purchased this cabin in 2014

Why SCOTT THOMPSON chose Front Range

We do our best to provide our guests with very clean accommodations, and will go the extra mile to make your stay special. It is our desire to make your stay with us so enjoyable that you will return, and feel comfortable referring your friends and relatives to stay at Little Bear Cottages or Riverwalk Loft Condos (VRBO 471009). We truly appreciate your patronage, and hope we have met all your needs.

What makes this cabin unique

Enjoy your morning coffee on the east-facing front porch, soaking up the Colorado sunshine. With close to 300 days of sunshine a year and a sky more blue than you'll ever see (and thousands of stars by night), Estes Park is full of natural beauty. Events in town are just minutes away (remember that free shuttle), and the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park is less than two miles away.

Having two separate cabins allows couples or friends to have private accommodations, while being able to share meals and relax in either cabin. Older children would enjoy being independent in their "own" cabin, while the parents can supervise from a short distance away (+-50 feet) in the main residence.

Beautiful property and city for a trip to the mountains!

  • 5 of 5

The only thing I feel is a problem is the difficulty we had with locking the door in the large cabin. The door is not level. Otherwise everything was perfect!

Owner's Response: We are glad that you had a good experience. We installed new weather-stripping around the door this winter and it may be too tight. At least we know that there are no drafts coming in through the door.

Warm and Welcoming accomodations

  • 5 of 5

We had the pleasure of staying at the Smiling Elk and Little Bear cabins for 5 nights. The cabins were very clean and tidy with updated amenities. We even had shampoo, soaps and lotion provided as in a high end hotel. Plenty of towels and fully stocked kitchen. We loved the proximity to Rocky Mountain National Park. We also took advantage of the shuttle bus to town before it shut down for the season. A big plus for us was private space as we had three adult women traveling together. Two of us stayed in the main cabin (one in the bedroom and the other on the pull-out couch). The third stayed in the Little Bear cabin. I was on the pull-out couch in the Smiling Elk cabin and the mattress was exceptionally comfortable. The washer and dryer was great and we never lacked for hot water when we needed it for our showers. Although it was too warm to light the wood-burning fireplace, there was fresh wood for our use had we chosen to do so. There was a small herd of Elk who bedded down in the area in front of the Smiling Elk cabin for about 3 hours. We enjoyed watching them from the dining table at the window.

The owner reached out to meet us and told us to call any time if we needed anything or had questions. That was a nice personal touch.

Thank you for the wonderful stay. We hope to visit again.

Perfect Location with Comfortable Accommodations!

  • 5 of 5

The cabins were close to the park without having to go through the traffic in town, but close enough to town to enjoy the shops when we wanted. It was nice to have 2 cabins for the price of 1! The cabins had everything we needed for our stay. The wifi was very fast and we were able to watch the Olympics every night on the large TV. The kitchen was well stocked; the beds were comfortable; the washer/dryer was a nice perk. The owners were easy to work with and communicated well.

Owner's Response: We are so glad that you had a wonderful experience. We do try to insure that our cabins have all the comforts of home. Having the two cabins does have a lot of advantages and works well for two couples or families with children old enough to have their own space. You can still keep an eye on them as they are only 30' apart. Please come back and see us again.

Rustic, welcoming and cozy

  • 4 of 5

The location is sufficiently outside of town but accessible to activities and conveniences. Overall our stay was great. Three of my son's family stayed in the Elk cabin and my husband and I shared the smaller Little Bear cabin with one grandson. The property with grill and patio area accommodated our 14 member family reunion cook out nicely. We supplied extra chairs. The kitchen and facilities in the larger cabin are nicely done and fully equipped. My son's family appreciated the fireplace and large screen TV. The smaller cabin is likely designed more for kid use. We were fine without a full kitchen. The small refrigerator and microwave were plenty for us. We enjoyed sitting outside drinking our coffee in the morning quiet. However, the bedroom becomes quite stuffy and hot at night. We had all windows and front door open to create more air flow. If I had not brought a fan, we would not have been able to stay the night! I am sure our landlords would have supplied one. However, I suggest a fan be included in the small cabin permanently, especially if adults sleep there. Lighting is limited in Little Bear as well. The bathroom could use a brighter light. We really appreciated meeting our landlord who made it clear she would accommodate anything we needed. We also had fun having a family photo taken at the Real West Old Time Portraits, a great brunch at Claire's on the Park, horseback riding and time at the Estes Lake Park.

Owner's Response: Thank you for that great review. The outdoors eating area can accommodate guests in addition to those staying at the cabins. We are adding a picnic table this fall. There are three fans in the cabins and they may have been moved from the Little Bear by a previous guest. Isn't is nice to know that fans are needed only a few days per year? Come back and see us again.

Great location, excellent for cooking

  • 5 of 5

We had two families here, with 5 young kids and 3 adults. Cozy but worked just fine. Great location, near Estes Park, and Rocky Mountain National Park. First night, a group of elk wandered through the property.

Kitchen is well stocked, which worked out for us, as we cooked all of our meals. Also had an outdoor grill.

It even as a washer/dryer for clothes.

The fold out bed in the smaller cabin was a little uncomfortable for adults, but the kids didn't seem to mind.

Owner gave me a hiking tip, which was spot on (Lake Isabelle).
